The revenant is the bodty of a deceased person that rises from their grave, usualy nightly, sometimes on a lunar cycle, usually to torment family members. When I say this, they usually do not cause physical harm, but rather mental trauma, or, frankly, are just annoying. The historical president for Revenants is great, with several interesting anecdotal accounts inthe writings of medival historian, William of Newburgh.

These are often reported to be people "wicked" in life, and are destroyed by holy incantations, or the removal of the heart, decapitation and anointing with holy water. Much as in the slavic traditions concerning vampires.
There are modern cases for revenants, but now the term is usually seen in fiction or media such as video games.
So, I submit to you, What do you think of this possible phenomena?

Considering that it's mental trauma, I would like to dismiss it as grief stricken relatives or acquaintances. But considering that the people are described as having been wicked in life, I don't know how much grieving would have been going on. . I don't really know what to make of it.

Especially given that in several accounts the revenant is witnessed not just by kin to the deceased, but by other people as well. Its really pretty interesting. If there were truth to it I do have some theories, but they are hardly scientific.
