I'm not saying that a genetic mutation of a virus like rabies can't cause generic zombie like behavior. But the living dead scientifically can not exist. Considering that the only supposed way to kill them is destroying the brain, and not by bleeding out from a wound or firing a round through the heart, they can't exist, if firing a round through the heart doesn't work, it means that the heart isn't functioning, which means no blood flow, which means no muscle movement, which means no getting out of the ground and attacking people. Besides, after several days of death, bringing someone back to life won't have the desired effect, the lack of oxygen to the brain for several days will likely cause such severe brain damage that the muscles probably won't even be able to be controlled and moved in even the most basic and instinctual matter. And then those who have been in the ground longer will have muscles that are basically non existent from lack of use combined with average decomposition, they won't be breaking out of a coffin, let alone going up through the dirt. The living dead simply can not exist.

In my reasoning fireing a round through the heart would not kill them...instantly. It is like they are on Pcp or overdosed on adreniline.granted living dead is impossible but the rabies is still possible [also 28 days later] If they had an overdose of adreniline or a drug like effect that could explain how they could be not be killed easily

Definitely a possibility, but then there are the other two factors that make the existence of living dead highly unlikely/impossible.

I see the only possible existence of living dead is determined solely by the god factor. In Revelations it is listed as one of the signs of the coming of Ragnarok as being 'the dead shall walk the Earth'. Even in that light, it's improbable, naturally impossible, and scientifically appalling. But in the case of divine intervention, I'm completely screwed anyway, so I think I'll stick to preparing for radioactivity-caused mutations and viral/bacterial mutations.

I know of a couple cases where a guy has been hopped up on PCP, taken a slug through the heart and kept going. Didn't survive mind you, but it kept them up long enough that they were still a considerable threat to the officers.

Kuromori Akira I see the only possible existence of living dead is determined solely by the god factor. Man if Ragnarok or some s**t like that happened all I could think was "Okay, we're all gonna die anyway. I'll just get it over with instead of starving to death eventually or struggling to survive. If I'm going to hell, I'm going to hell, and if God takes me, well lucky me." I'd see a bunch of zombies outside and then run out naked. You have to imagine the adrenaline rush from that. Maybe I'd be a zombie for a little too if severe adrenaline has that effect. It'd be like running with the bulls.
Dude, side-note, I wonder if any guy has ever been gored through the chest and kept running because of the fear and adrenaline? I'm sure there has but it reminds me of what Kagemorou said about the druggie getting hit with a slug. Maybe researching urban-legend could find some interesting results? Not like we can submit it to myth-busters and have Adam take PCP, but hey, might find something half-way possible.
