Hey gang, it's almost 4am, Lamb of God is on iTunes and I'm bored out of my mind, so its started coming up with thoughts on its own to keep from atrophying. With job seeking seeming to be a common theme, not just here, but on many forums that I visit, I've been wondering to myself: What is it I really like doing?
The answer, of course, is writing. This lead me to ask myself what I would do with my time if my writing generated enough money that I suddenly had nothing but free time, so I present the same question to you.
If you had unlimited or, at least, very, very generous amounts of money in your bank account and didn't have to waste your time with things like work and bills, what would you do with your time?
I figure I would buy a nice car, not something super expensive, but something nice enough. I would pack a bag or two of clothing, a digital camera, a video camera and a laptop, and I would go on a grand tour of the lower 48 states, for however long it took me. I'd use the technology to document my trip as I visited people and places and generally just see what's put there in the country. Of course, I'd make a point to visit places I've always wanted to see (New York City, Vegas, Seattle and so on) but I'd also hit places like the Midwest and the Southwest to drive the vast open stretches of land as well as the scenic highways like the 101 in California. I'd probably pass through some places for only a day or two while I would stay in others for weeks at a time.
What about you?

I, too, would love to travel given the time (and, as you said, if money wasn't a problem). Besides traveling and documented as you stated, Headhunter, I believe I would repair all our family cars (don't get me started on this topic) so they are if not as good as new at least able to be driven in the rain and other non-sunny days. I'd also like to make some type of movie to prove to some people (who I'd rather not mention by name) that I can make it in the movie industry. I'd also like to devote some time to helping the under-privledged.
To answer your initial question: "What is it I really like doing?" I would say, "Writing, working with my hands and helping others." I must admit, I do enjoy photography and writing music, but those previously mentioned items are things I really, truly, enjoy doing more than anything else in the world.
Before I end my post, I want to thank you, Headhunter, for posing this question to the guild. Seems appropriate that I answer this post given everything I was given as fodder for this week during the Homily given at Mass last night by a priest friend who was visiting our parish this past weekend. (I will post more about this main topic that he gave us in my journal entry on Wednesday or Thursday of this week, if anyone is curious.)

A road trip across the U.S. would be the first thing, most definitely. I'd even travel Route 66 for the sake of the song. I'd take in the sights and just go wherever.
After that, I'd take a cargo ship cruise. Those trips take a minimum of 3 months and often stretch into 6. I would be on one of those, and I'd see the entire world and eat all the different foods there are. I'd visit mountains and reserves, I'd camp and hike wherever I could.
It would be a glorious hiatus. xD
