Welcome to the halls of Hogwarts. Careful not to get caught in them during class.

~Laura S. Brechkovsky~

When Laura ran into the castle she ran directly for the ladies room. She had to stop the tears. Had to wash her face and erase all of the signs. She wasn't weak. Why was she crying? It made no sense to Laura. She had never cared what guys thought. Harvey was her best friend, and always as friendly as could be. The difference was, Laura could never capture the attention of another boy like that. She could never make a guy turn his head to look twice at her like Viktorya could. Viktorya was cruel, cold, and nasty on every level imaginable. How could she have guys after her in a blink of an eye like that? True she was much bigger, and the darkness of her complexion made her stand out. Sometimes it even made her pretty. That was when it wasn't twisted behind her permanent sour expression. What did Laura have? She was friendly yes, but she wasn't a looker. Laura couldn't even claim to be 5 feet tall. She was too small for guys to notice. The one good thing was her golden hair. Even that didn't count however because she always tied it up so tight. She had to to keep it out of her face. Professor Wixom always tied hers up. As Laura thought about this however, she realized that nobody was ever interested in Professor Wixom either, and you couldn't find a kinder woman.

Wiping her eyes once more Laura forced the tears to stop. She couldn't go feeling sorry for herself, she had to get to History of Magic. She couldn't go getting into trouble. She couldn't let her sister get to her that bad. Not this early in the game. Sam would find out how cruel Viktorya is, and back off. No Gryffindor would go chasing a Slytherin that is clearly not interested. And Laura had no doubt that Viktorya would not be interested. From Laura's memory, Sam was a half blood rancher, and Viktorya wasn't going to settle for anything less than a pure blood mansion owner. When she finally stopped the tears Laura ran some cold water and then splashed it on her face. She rubbed her face dry so it didn't look like she had been crying. Then she took the water and smoothed her hair back into its perfect position before stepping out into the corridor once more. She had her bag over her shoulder, and was prepared to run all the way to history. Laura hadn't made the Ravenclaw quidditch team for nothing. She was fast.

For a moment Sam had stood dumbstruck. This girl had yanked her bag back, called him a mudblood, said she was better than him, and called his hat stupid. How many ways could she find to insult him in one blow? Recovering quickly Sam shook his head to catch her again. He didn't catch up to her until they entered the school. Then he grabbed her wrist and spun her to face him. As a teenage rancher, he was strong so it took little effort. "Miss Brechkovsky, I'm fully aware that you are pureblood, but I'll have you know that I'm not a muggle born. My mum is a witch." He felt no need to say that his dad was a muggle. He didn't need to hurt his chances. "Technically I never asked you out. I understand that I just met you, so I was asking to walk you to your class. As for my hat, if you don't like it, I don't have to wear it." Sam swept off his hat in one fluid motion, and held it in his hand. He didn't know why he was doing this. All he knew was that this girl had taken a swing that cut deep. It had been choppy and only partially understandable, but she had made it clear.

Harvey Wilkinson

Harvey reached the hall outside of the girls' lavatory just as Laura came out of it. He could tell she was trying to keep her composure and tried to cover up the tears she had shed, and Harvey couldn't help but smile a little to himself; it was so refreshing to see Laura act so human. He had always known there was more than stiffness in the "robot," but he never got proof for his theory until that day. Harvey walked forward to Laura and debated on what to do. What he really wanted to do was rush over to her and sweep her into his arms in a tight embrace so she could know that there was someone who loved her immensely and who just wanted to make her happy. He knew that he could not do that, since he ran the risk of Laura hurting him for it, so he settled for the next best thing that'd hopefully let her see that he really cared about her. He stepped forward, smiled sweetly at her and asked, "Do you mind if I take that?" Without waiting for a response, he gently slid Laura's bag off of her shoulder and slung it onto his free shoulder. Then he asked, "Is everything okay? You seemed upset after Care of Magical Creatures." He didn't want to directly ask her why she was crying, because he knew her and knew that she wouldn't say anything that would betray her protocol. He didn't like beating around the bush for an answer to the question he wanted answered, but he knew it would be rude to intrude on her privacy against her will.

Viktorya Brechkovsky

Viktorya laughed whenever they guy mentioned that his mother was a witch; the fact that he had left his father out of his statement meant that he was a half-blood. How sickening to mix blood together in such a way. She listened to his continued rambling, and when he took off his hat to back up his statement about not wearing it if she didn't like it, Viktorya laughed again and said, "You say you no ask me out, but caring vhat I think shows you like me. Keep funny hat on if you like; vill not make me fall for you." With that, she threw a final sneer at the guy and walked towards her class, laughing internally at him, since he had seemed so sure he had a shot with her.

Laura was still trying to collect herself when she saw Harvey. Pulling all of her military training forward she straitened and forced all emotion out. "Good morning Harvey. I guess we best be getting to class." She forced her voice calm. There was no need for this break down. No need for her to be a major baby. When he took her bag however, Laura's look softened as the emotions flung forward once more. She had to swallow hard and blink back the tears as she forced herself to stay stone. "Thank you Harvey. I really don't feel well. It really helps." She straitened herself up and shook out her robes. She stopped however when Harvey asked if she was alright. She gave a curt nod. "My sister just gets on my nerves. She tends to think she's so special, and I've always been pushed to the side. I'm just sick of her Harvey." It was said softly. In a voice she didn't use because of her military bearing. She could see the girl down the hall slightly with Sam and shook her head. "We had better get to class Harvey. We don't want to be late." Just then however the bell rang and Laura froze in fear. She had never been late. She had never had detention. Now she was late, and probably getting detention because of it.

With hat still in hand Sam rushed after Viktorya. He could see Laura and Harvey just a little ways up, and this confused him slightly. Laura was the 'robot' and the first one to every class every day. She was cutting it pretty close to actually being late this time. To top it off, she and Harvey were both Prefects. He knew that 5th years didn't have any free periods, so he couldn't for the life of him figure out what they were doing clear down here this close to class starting. He had to push it out of his mind however because Viktorya was fast. He eventually overtook her. He wasn't Gryffindor Quidditch Captain for nothing. He stood in front of her, and grabbed both of her shoulders to make her stop. His hat dangled helplessly from his right hand, and now down Viktorya's back. "Brechkovsky, I'll have you know that you're not special for being a pureblood. There isn't a pureblood alive today that hasn't has his blood tainted somewhere down the line. You want me to be honest? Alright, I do like you. I just don't want to come across as some idiot that moves too fast. I figured that if I welcomed you to Hogwarts and tried to become your friend, you might be able to get used to things here. If you're anything like your sister, and if your sister is anything like what I've heard, you're definitely going to need some time to adjust. I just wanted to be friendly." With that said he stopped and just looked at her. The urge to kiss her pierced through his body like fire, but he forced it back. He definitely didn't have her permission to kiss her, and Samuel Samson was not a guy that stole kisses. It would also contradict his bit about just wanting to be friends with her. The sound of the bell ringing snapped him out of it. That meant that they were late, and they could both be in serious trouble. There was no doubt he was in trouble. He had Blackburn next, and the man would put him through hell for being late the first day. He didn't know about Viktorya however. She was brand new and Mason was a new teacher. Part of him wished desperately she would be in trouble to teach her a lesson, but most of him prayed she wouldn't be because it would all be his fault. His eyes caught the jump Laura did down the hall and he realized she might be in trouble for being late, and for her sister being late since she might have the responsibility of making sure her sister found her way around the castle. "Let me walk you to class. We're already late." With that he let go of her shoulders and motioned her ahead of him. He didn't bother taking her bag since she obviously didn't want him too.

Harvey Wilkinson

Harvey listened to Laura, thoroughly surprised that she was confiding at least part of her feelings to him. He didn't know what he had done to have earned her trust so quickly, but nevertheless, his heart began hammering faster as she spoke, unable to stop himself from loving her even more. He had no words to respond to her statements, but he still listened, hoping that the expression on his face was one of compassion and understanding. When the bell rang--right after Laura had suggested that they should hurry to class lest they be late--Harvey's eyes went wide as he stared at Laura, and without another word, he grabbed Laura's hand and began running fast towards the History of Magic classroom. He knew that Laura might not like him grabbing her hand, but much to his fortune, he knew that she would be much more worried about getting detention than a boy grabbing her hand. He felt very warm and happy as he ran with her hand in hand, oblivious to the fact that they were going to be late and probably score detention with one of the new professors on the first day of class.

Viktorya Brechkovsky

Viktorya glared at the guy when he suggested that she might be similar to Laura in some way. She hated her sister, and there was no way she was going to allow some half-blood to compare her to her sister. "I nothing like Laura," Viktorya spat angrily. "I much better than she is. I much better than you, too. You say I no special, but I am; you said yourself that tainted blood is everyvare. Vell by that logic, I am special because I of pureblood; is no contamination in my family." Viktorya stopped speaking just as the bell rang, and once again faced the guy asking to walk her to class. Angrily, she said loudly, "You stalker. Leave me alone. I care not if late or not. Go avay!" Giving an exasperated noise, Viktorya stomped off towards her classroom, thoroughly annoyed with the stupid, ridiculous hat-wearing Gryffindor.

Colt Shevington

Colt had caught up with Sam in the hallway, hiding behind a suit of armor as he watched him talking to the new Brechkovsky girl. Colt had heard the girl's rude response as she left Care of Magical Creatures, so he was surprised that Sam still persisted in trying to get her attention even after all of the horrible things she had said to him. Colt felt like stepping in as time wore on; the girl was just about the rudest person he had ever met in his life. What in the world did Sam see in her? The bell rang, and Colt froze in place; they were late for Blackburn's class. Fuuuuu.... The girl shouted an insult, then took off, and Colt walked forward slowly, wanting to comfort his almost-brother from the girl's repeated hurtful refusals. He came up behind Sam and clapped his shoulder in comfort, giving him a half-smile in encouragement. "Come on, bro. We're late to Blackburn's." He didn't want to intrude on Sam's emotions, so he kept his comment and brief and unrelated to the Brechkovsky girl as he possibly could, hoping that his friend cheered up soon.

Laura's eyes went wide when Harvey grabbed her hand and started running. Nobody ever grabbed hold of her. Except her father when he was pulling her off of her sister during one or their fights. She flinched as she realized that each time he grabbed her it was followed by pain and sorrow. Whether it was physical from a spanking he was giving her, or other wise such as grounding her for however long he felt like at the moment. She couldn't dwell on it for long however because she was late, and that was going to get her into trouble. She didn't make Harvey drag her for long, but ran right alongside him. They were almost to the classroom when the rounded a corner and ran smack into something. Laura couldn't help it. She had been running so fast, and had hit it at such a force that she toppled and fell over. Looking up her eyes went wide and she pushed herself to her feet going immediately to the perfect form of attention. "GOOD MORNING MA-AM!" She screamed it not knowing what else to do since she had never been in this position at Hogwarts before. She was in the halls during class, and standing right in front of her was Deputy Headmistress Emily Wixom.

Sam watched dumbfounded as the girl before him got in his face, and started yelling. She seriously thought she was better than everyone didn't she? She even thought she was better than her twin sister. How in the world could someone be better than even their twin sister? Sam didn't have time to worry about it however because while he was still dumbstruck she stormed off, and Colt grabbed him saying they had to get to Blackburns class. He gave a silent nod since he was still slightly in shock, and started walking towards the Defense classroom. Both boys were almost there however when a red headed woman that neither of them wanted to see at the moment, stepped around the corner and spotted them. Sam froze in his tracks, knowing this wasn't going to be good. They already had to answer to Blackburn for being late. Now the Deputy Headmistress caught them, and Sam could tell she was not happy. Somewhere between first period Charms, and right now, Emily Wixom had had a bad day, and they had just made it a whole lot worse.

~Emily A. Wixom~

Emily was feeling stressed. While she wasn't teaching, she was still running around feeling like her head had been cut off, and she was still just trying to restore some sanity and order to her life. She still wore a smile however, just glad to still be at Hogwarts, and able to see the students. They weren't the reason she was stressed. For the first time since she had taken the teaching position, Emily had not had a single problem controlling students. Granted she'd only had to teach that 6th and 7th years class, and she had to do it as Atticus wanted, but she had given them leeway, and they were always her hardest class. This was her third year, and for the last 2 years her N.E.W.T. Charms class had found a way to make her absolutely boiling angry by the end of first period. Now however she was just on her way to take a walk around the grounds and try and clear her mind from the retarded Ministry of Magic. She wasn't very far however when she felt like she had gotten hit by a bulldozer.

Startled Emily used the wall to keep from falling to the ground. It took her a second, but when her mind registered what had happened she saw a tiny little blond figure snap to attention and start screaming. It took another moment for Emily to realize that this was Laura Brechkovsky, and standing beside her was Harvey Wilkinson. Both of which were supposed to be in History of Magic, but had just plowed into her. Between the stress of the ministry, and being plowed into like that Emily felt her temper rise. Even if it was just slightly. "Laura, there is no need to go screaming at me, I assure you that I can hear you just fine. Now what are you and Harvey doing here? You are both supposed to be in History of Magic with Professor Mason. I will not tolerate you two giving her a hard time her first day of teaching. You each just lost Ravenclaw 5 points, and I'll see you this evening in detention. Now get to class before I tack on more. You are both Prefects. You know better."

With that Emily had watched the two scurry off, and she continued her trek downstairs to the grounds. She didn't get far however because the next corner turned up the other Brechkovsky girl. Emily sighed as she looked at the girl. "Miss Brechkovsky, you are supposed to be in class. Since it's your first day I imagine you may be having a rough day, and I am sorry that your sister is doing nothing to help. Would you please let her know that her night of detention with me just turned into a full week, and she lost Ravenclaw 10 more points for not looking out for you?" Emily's voice was very frazzled and stern right now and she let out another small sigh to try and calm down. "Now I would suggest you get to class yourself before you get in trouble. It's just down the hall, take a left, and it's the last door on your right before the next hallway." With that Emily walked off once more. She knew it was slightly harsh punishing the other Brechkovsky, but what else was Emily supposed to do? It was Viktorya's first day. Laura had all of the same classes as Viktorya, she was her sister, and she was a prefect. Surely the girl should accept some responsibility to make sure that her sister didn't go crazy her first day in such a big school.

Emily was now extremely frustrated. She had just caught 3 different 5th years in the halls during class, on top of the ministry demands. She really just wanted to relax. When she passed the Defense Classroom, walked down the hall, and found Samuel Samson and Colt Shevington in the halls as well she couldn't help her temper. At least they weren't 5th years this time, and at least all of the students had been from different houses. That didn't improve her mood however. "Shevington, are you trying to do me in? I spoke with Professor Travis, and he says that your detention will be with me tonight. It looks like I'll be seeing you tomorrow evening as well since you're not in class where you belong. Samson, I'll see you tonight in detention as well. You both just lost Gryffindor 5 house points, now get to class. Move it." There was nothing kind in her voice any more. Emily had completely had it by this point, and finding 5 students in the halls instead of in class was doing nothing to improve her mood.

Once the fiasco of Defense class was behind her, Klára was much calmer than she had been only minutes ago. Her hair and robes made her look as if she were slightly deflated from how rumpled they were, and the sponginess of the flesh beneath her eyes didn't help either. Rubbing her eyes wearily, she wandered into an unused alcove to lean against the wall with her eyes closed until the bell rang. Then she straightened her clothes and went to her next class.
