Ariel's Office
knock first / go away

A simple office located on the first floor of the main squad building, and on the door hung a sign. There are blue bean bags staked against the walls to sit on, and a bunch of shelves with books and food on it. The wall opposite to the door is a huge window that overlooks the training ground. There are sliding glass doors in the window, so Ariel can easily move between training and her office. Usually, there's a curtain pulled over it. Ariel's desk is right in front of the window. There is always a cake on it, along with a pile of overdue paperwork.

Ariel was lying in her arms at her desk, fast asleep. Her hair curled around her arms, giving her some eerily serene look. Peet, on the other hand, was wide awake, scouting her office for food. Out of nowhere, he felt a disturbance on Earth, specifically, Karakura Town. He knew that, afterall, he was made out of reishi. "Ariel, wake up!" he poked her rapidly. "There something going on...GET UP!" Ariel opened her eyes, and sensed the reiatsu too. Getting up lazily and stretching, she muttered,"Fine...let's go..I'll just follow you...I guess."

"Try to see life through my eyes. Trust me; I warned you."

----------

Kisu appeared outside, slipping in and out silently, the door closing completely behind her. She sighed, taking in the scent of the room. The cake always made it smell good. She put her stuff down on one of the chairs, placing the mirror carefully on top, while she began dusting, cleaning, scrubbing, more scrubbing, and washing. It took a while, her dusting first, then shaking out rugs and such outside, before returning in so she wouldn't die of a lung blockage. She then washed everything that she could that was cloth, and then put it all back the way it was. Then she scrubbed the visible floor, leaving the parts invisible for a later date. She polished the metal, changed to food out from old to fresh, cleaned the bowl, then the bookshelves and books, wiping the front of any oils and such. She then moved to the desk, pulling out a stamp and signing all the paperwork that was there, placing it neatly in the maybe part, hoping her captain would look at them soon anyways.

Then she carried on cleaning, washing the ceiling while using hoho, washing the window from the outside then in, and then putting all the books back in the exact same place that they were beforehand. She then sighed, placing all the supplies under a secret panel that she had put in so she wouldn't have to carry all of it from her quarters back. She sat in the chair next to the one with all of her stuff, picking up the mirror and tracing it again. She then reached in her bag, putting on eyeliner and mascara, and little touches of everything else; foundation, lip-gloss, etc. She then reached in her bag pulling out a cloth as she wiped the mirror down, removing any finger prints she might have gotten on it. The cloth was her now second favorite things that she owned. She had received it in Rukongai from one of the children she used to watch after she saved them...it was a small blanket of faded pink, with a yellow flower in the corner. She sighed, thinking of the old days. She was so much younger then...but so weak.

Ariel arrived tiredly at her office, her mind plagued with what Sunda had decided at the meeting, the random pain at her ankles, and where to find her Vice-Captain. She quickly flipped the sign on her door from 'go away' to 'knock first' and pushed it open, only to arrive in a dust-less, orderly, shiny, neat, squeaky-clean room. She didn't remember hiring maid service, but this was to be expected. Many times after Ariel came back from meetings, she'd always find her office completely clean and refreshed, and often, Kisu was there waiting for her.

Peet had hopped off Ariel's shoulder and scrambled in after her. He made a beeline to Kisu and tackled her leg. "Kisu!! Earth was really scary!! There was Espadas and stuff? Did you feel that huge reiatsu??" he rambled, mixing up words and trying to talk over himself, so that in the end, nothing really made sense. After a few moments, he had to pause and catch his breath. "Oh ya! Nice mirror! I've never seen it before," he added.

That girl was a gift, and Ariel never regretted giving her the vice-captain position, due to her skills and, she soon found out, her cleaning prowess. In her opinion, the pretty vice-captain was a skilled fighter, so Ariel felt that it was right to share every detail with her. "Ah...Kisu! I was going to go find you, but you made things easier. Thanks for cleaning the room again," Ariel said wearily, but with a grin. She walked with a limp to her desk and sat down on her swivel chair. The paperwork was done for her too. "Really, you're too much!" Ariel smiled ecstatically, shaking her head. Ariel took out a butcher knife she kept in her drawer, along with two plates and two forks. "Here, have some cake," she offered, as she chopped the cake into 8 pieces. Ariel carefully slected two big slices and put them on the plate, reaching over her desk to hand one to Kisu. Peet stared wistfully at the cake. He couldn't eat it, since he can't eat, it just doesn't work that way. "I have a long story."

Kisu smiled lightly, patting Peet on the back lightly, smiling as he talked. Or tried to talk. She always liked seeing him, but yet there was so much that ran through her mind that pushed him, along with everything else, out of her mind's path. She though about all she had learned, both from her snooping and sleuthing and what she was told. Also, the fact on her mind was her loneliness, and how she hated it so. But she maintained her mask, and chuckled lightly. "I did a little, which lead me to think that you did indeed go to investigate. With Ariel Taicho, of course." She said, rubbing his head lightly with her fingertip before she got up, putting the mirror that she had finished polishing in her bag which she left on chair before she walked over to one closer to Ariel's desk. She sat down and accepted the cake with a slight bow, a smile on her face.

She smiled a bit more, taking a bite from the cake, eying the butchers knife casually. She always suggested something a little less ominous for Ariel to use, but the knife always stayed. She mentally sighed, wishing that she could take the knife and stash it away. But, yet again, she couldn't. Well, she could, but she wouldn't. She looked with a more concerned look at Ariel. She smelled of hollow...but the Espada would explain it. But she also smelled of another shinigami...but she was at a Captain's Meeting. But they seemed to be intertwined. She smiled mentally, nothing showing on her face about what she was processing faster than most could even comprehend. Being a genius was sometimes a useful feature about living. "Luckily, i have time, Ariel Taicho." She said with a relatively cheery voice, knowing she could have done better to convince Ariel that everything was fine. She slipped her sword from her sash and laid it beside her on the floor. It was relatively uncomfortable to be sitting with it jabbing into her back. She then moved her hair behind her ear so she could see Ariel fully, before she took another small bite of the cake. It was delicious.

Peet tried his best to purr when Kisu patted his head. Seeing that they were going to discuss this Kitsune buisness, he scampered off towards one of the beanbags to relax. Having already heard Ariel tell this story to the Sou-Taicho, Peet had no need to pay attention. Instead, he took one of the books from Ariel's shelf and began to read "Cakes: Aesthetically Pleasing".

Ariel nodded at Kisu while swallowing her cake hungrily. After she managed to get it all down her throat, she rubbed her hands together with a steely glint in her eyes. "Alrighty then," she started. "Basically, there's a new and old species that was rediscovered today. I've never heard of them, 'cause I haven't lived for that long, but Sou-Taicho Sunda has. They went underground or something for whatever reason, I don't have any information on that. They must've caused the giant wave of reiatsu, probably from destoying the bridge in Karakura Town, killing lots of innocent bystanders. Murderers. Not to mention that the Vaizards, Quincy and Espada were attracted to it too."

She paused to let Kisu digest the information, and the cake. To continue, "They are called Kitsune, and they're really odd in appearence, not to judge or anything. I mean, they're pretty, right, but they've got fox ears and tails! REAL ones! Like, cosplay style. Although, for some reason, the Espada that was there also had fox ears. I don't know if those were real or not. The Espada kidnapped one of the Kitsune, for reasons unknown."

Ariel gave a shrug as she mentioned it, then ate some more of the cake, and talking made her hungry. As she swallowed, she began talking again. "According to Sunda, each Kitsune controls an element. We don't know how many there are, but I know for certain that there is at least 4, and one of them masters lightning. Noah-Taicho is wandering Karakura Town in hopes of finding their hide-out. Meanwhile, the rest of us is supposed to prepare for an all-out rampage against the Kitsune. We have to wipe 'em all out, which is kinda sad, really." Ariel sighed as she spoke. Maybe Sunda was right about making sure Karakura Town is safe, but this might be going a bit too far.

"Try to see life through my eyes. Trust me; I warned you."

----------

Kisu sighed deeply, thinking about what was being said along with what she had presumed. So she was right in her guess beforehand that they were not of any species she knew, but she did remember reading about some references to them in books in a lost section of the vast library. They were like Gods; complete and masterful control over the elements. She had recorded and remembered seven of them? Something along those lines. But she was also kind of weary about their existence; if they were murderers, then they would most likely link up with other murderers. The Arrancar. She sighed again, but now she took another bite of cake, she mulled over this theory for a while, leaving the room rather quiet while she ate her cake. Running statistics, ratios, populous of basic and general knowledge, and power levels, she came up with one option.

She exhaled deeply, having held her breath a while before she came up with a final conclusion. It didn't make much sense, but it was all she had at the moment. With all purposes of trying to be helpful to the situation, she added her own feedback. "Kitsunes are extremely strong, and have control over elements. There are seven of them, and even with their power, isn't enough to fight us. They would have to form an alliance with someone; the Arrancar. If that were to happen, we would be demolished. And seeing as you said there were others there, they are probably thinking the same thing. The Vizards; they are probably going to ask us for an alliance for offensive reasons. Our power divided against that of Las Noches is quite terrifying to even try to rationalize. So it would be more than plausible for them to be thinking what i am. Also, if there were to be an attack by only a few on the hideout, there would be mass hysteria; more on our lines than theirs. Would you take me with you if you go? So i can further collect data and the such." She said, adding her piece in a rather weird, uncharacteristic sounding piece, more explanatory than not too smart like she usually played off. She was more willing to open herself around her Captain than anyone else on rare occasions, and this was one of them.

Ariel propped her head against her palm and leaned against it after polishing off the last crumbs of the cake. She was a bit surprised that Kisu knew so much about the Kitsune, at least more than she knew. Only seven? Ariel had assumed they were like the Shinigami, with an army and all that. But then, how many elements were there? Excluding the periodic table, of course, which Ariel completely detested. That always reminded her of school, and school was troublesome and tedious.

Kisu may have brought up a good point; the Kitsune teaming up with Arrancars, but Ariel disregarded it. "I'm not sure if they'll join the Arrancars, after all, they kidnapped one of the Kitsune. Noah-Taicho is certain that the Kitsune must've invaded Las Noches to rescue their friend, possibly leaving their hide-out empty. Of course, the Espada and Kitsune might end up killing each other off, which saves us a lot of trouble. Or, they might team up because they both seem to hate us, although that seems less likely," she argued. "You're right about the Vizards though, having them in our ranks is a big advantage. Right now, it's better to leave the Vizards and Quincy out though, they can do whatever the hell they want, hopefully joining us."

Ariel paused, mulling things over. She was more than willing to let her Vice-Captain go to Earth and fight the Kitsune, but she felt a little uneasy. Letting Kisu fight would be a great experience, physically and mentally, but that is only if she doesn't die. Ariel was pretty scared of dying herself, but she had no choice in the matter. "Alright, you can come with me Kisu," she decided, sounding very serious. "We're fighting elements with elements, so we might get the upper hand, or we might fail miserably. I don't want to sound like an overprotective parent, but fighting the enemy is optional, coming back in one piece is mandatory. You have your bankai, right?"

Kisu had to flash a genuine smile. Of course, sneaking into a forgotten part of the restricted section while not even a squad member back in her academy days was risky, but she enjoyed every moment of it. Something she enjoyed doing was finding out what went on behind closed doors, that was never opened and locked behind another. It. . .refreshing to let out her analytical side every once in a while. But she also had a continuous thought of what was to come, what had happened in the past, and other such ridiculous and "bonkers" ideas that would possibly work. But she detested them and pushed them aside. They were still souls...She almost didn't have enough time to hear her captain's question, in which she looked up promptly from her stare that apparently had been drooping. Coming back was mandatory? But what if she wanted to run away. She smirked lightly at the idea, pushing off the question for a few seconds.

"Yes, Captain. I do indeed have my bankai, even if 'ol Yume Engimono didn't put up too big of a fight for it." she said with a small laugh, hearing grumbles in the corner of her mind from her deeply upset zanpakuto that she had scorned him so. They had gotten masterfully close, and were more like siblings than partners. They often teased with each other, just rarely to an open audience. She yawned lightly, stretching her arms as she stood, getting her bag. SHe rubbed Peet's head lightly on her way back, sitting down and pulling out a small, PDA like device. "I submitted to be a prototype tester way back when, and they gave this to me and never asked for it back. Not like i would now." She said, tapping the screen a while before she showed it to her captain. It was something about her zanpakuto's information. "If you wanna, you can read. If not, you can wait for the surprise." She said with a sly smile.

Letting a little sigh of relief escape her, Ariel visibly relaxed. Thank god her Vice-Captain already had her Bankai, that would make the chance of survival a lot higher. Who knew what the Kitsune had up their sleeves. After Kisu's pile of information, Ariel wouldn't need to go to the library herself and dig out the ancient book on Kitsune. She wasn't really the best person you could ask for when researching. In fact, Ariel doubted she even knew where the library was, having never been there during her entire life in the Seireitei. Holding her butcher knife gingerly in her hand, she took out a blood red cloth and cleaned off the icing and crumbs. With that done, she stowed it safely back in the drawer.

Ariel eyed Kisu's electronic toy with intrest. She abosutely loved fiddling with new technology and the gadgets Earth comes up with. In a less eventful trip to Earth, she had been introduced to DDR, now her all time favorite game, not to mention that she was kind of good at it. "Eh? Awesome!" Ariel grinned, leaning forwards to get a closer look at the gadget. "What else does that thing hold?? It's sorta like one of those...er...computers back on earth!" She quickly scanned the screen Kisu was showing her, then turned away. "Naaw, I'd like to see it myself in action. It'll be like waiting to open up a present!"

Kisu smiled lightly, exiting out of the tab and she fiddled more with it before she tapped a button on the top to lock it before she stretched lightly. She smiled at what Ariel said, like a present. The thing was, she couldn't remember getting a present. She got gifts, like the mirror she had her hand on now, but never anything wrapped. She thought of the reason why, her mind racing faster than it had previously, it taking a moment to realize that she really never built many close friends, so the whole present ordeal was something that would require a social skill beyond acting like the parental booze-house. She rubbed her forehead lightly, a slight smirk being hidden by her strategically placed and bent arm. She really needed to improve her people skills. She then looked up to Ariel, thinking about everything that had happened today.

She talked to Zaine, and gave him a sculpture thing and she was given a mirror; he then suggested that he make the place presentable for Ariel's return. Which she did, she must say, quite well. Then they got talking about the Kitsunes and such, thinking about the whole ordeal with them, the Espada, the Quincy, and the Vizards. She personally had no vendetta against them, in fact, she wanted to put in a suggestion that they join their ranks in a special squad of their own. "It can hold a lot, from pictures to music to data files. Of course, I'm planning on picking something up from earth soon and tinkering with it to make it better. Mine is falling apart anyways." She said with a light laugh, rubbing the back of her head lightly. She really should be more open in front of her captain, but she just continues to keep things locked up. Like she always had...

Ariel leaned down to scratch her leg. Upon a closer examination, it looked like Peet had chewed through her boot and gnawed her leg. The blood was dry and as Ariel itched it, it crumbled. It was mostly her fault for sleeping during the meeting, but she couldn't help it.

Her eyes followed Kisu's fingers as she tapped the screen. This looked a lot more advanced than the things humans came up with. Last time she checked, you couldn't tap the screen to issue commands. Maybe I should go visit Earth. A recreational visit, Ariel smiled.

"From Earth, eh?" Ariel nodded. "Well, from the feel of it, it seemed like Noah-Taicho just came back from his Kitsune-Hide Out mission." She was a bit surprised at the speed of this mission. But then, Noah was never one to delay by chattering; he was always so serious and calculating. Ariel leaned against the back of her chair and blew on her bangs. "I kind of miss my time on Earth. Do you remember anything about your old life?"

"Try to see life through my eyes. Trust me; I warned you."

----------

Kisu looked down, going into memories of her past life, her human life. She smiled lightly, closing her eyes and clutching something from around her neck. A necklace. Something that was always kept hidden. She wanted to talk about it, but she couldn't muster up the courage. Not right now. She began to think, about her life and about how much she liked being dead so much more. At least she was free, or for the most part, when she had died. When she was alive, she remembered terror, fear, despair, and hope. She remembered how much hope burned, how much a single glimmer of it in your eyes could be treated as a shout to an onlooker, and deserved a slap. Her face went blank as she bowed her head, inhaling deeply and softly, before exhaling through her mouth, her breath sounding kind of wavery. In fact, her eyes were moist with forming tears. She smiled lightly, her face remaining downward. "Yes. I remember it all."

Without hesitation, she spaced and began to tell her life story. "My mother was an American albino, married to her husband, an older gentleman with blond and gray hair, eyes as blue as ice. They made me. A small, pale, black-haired, rose eyed bay girl. I was raised in luxury, my father being wealthy, for those days, he was a millionaire. He was the ambassador for the Americans in Japan at the time. When i was kidnapped, he was reassigned, so the government could handle all of that mess. That was when i was seven. I never had friends, and i barely left the mansion, so i didn't really miss much, i was just robbed of communication. I would be beaten upon, thrown around, kicked; i was their toy. For twelve years. I was their slave, walking in plain sight, nothing wrong with all the makeup compiled on my face. The bruises were covered flawlessly, the swelling taken down by injections. I was to be their respective, emotionally dead 'adopted daughter'"

Taking a few seconds to take a breath and gather herself, she continued again. "They used me to rob places, kill people, all of which was against my will, them making me pull the trigger, by force. Taping my hand to a knife, knocking me unconscious, and using my body to stab an innocent person. I was their doll. Until i rebuked, fought my way to freedom. They were going to kill me that day, for i was getting stronger as i neared my death, partly from lack of vitamin d and partly from dehydration. With my last efforts, i safely saved a little girl that was to replace me; then, nothing but a gunshot hit my ears, then i remember waking up with a chain to my chest. Nothing more, nothing less...." She said, a tear rolling down her left cheek, slowly followed by her right, before she pulled a black cloth from her bag and wiped the tears away gently with it.

She sighed again, clutching the necklace harder, tighter. "My parents identified me, my DNA in the system from when i was kidnapped, my body being able to be buried with a closed casket ceremony. My mother gave me this necklace before they sealed the coffin, and i remember me having it even since the funeral was over. That is all pretty hazy though. Not too much to remember after all of that, huh?" She said, mentally killing herself for blabbing like that to her Captain, of all people. She would have to have a serious mind-bend when she went back to her quarters, make herself a little more exclusive, draw back from her normal outgoing self a bit. That didn't seem to help too much with her current state, as could be seen. "I'm sure it's abnormal to remember that much, but what about you? Do you remember anything?" She asked, her voice back to normal, it not even looking like she had cried at all. With all of her practice, she could be missing both eyes and all of her teeth and no one would notice.
