This is the most epic anime ever. The story keeps evolving throughout the show, starting at a really low-scale, low-stakes battle (random small mecha fight in an underground city) and ending with the most gigantic size battle ever (two solar system sized mechs literally flinging galaxies at each other to decide the fate of all existence). Even the main character goes through a transformation of being a whiny little kid to a hero (granted, there's a part in the middle there where you just want to strangle Simon for being so emo, but given what happened, it's sort of justified).
It's 24 episodes long, and with the exception with a few of the opening episodes, it's paced and timed so that it's like four sagas split up through the span the of the show ("Forming Team Dai Gurren", "Battle with the Spiral King", "Fighting the Moon", and "Anti-Spiral Fight").
And if that's not enough to convince you...just tune in for Yoko's flaming bikini...

Question, is the series supposed to go all disjoined after roughly episode 6 or 7? Was watching on Netflix a few weeks ago, but when we started the episode after the hotsprings one, it was recapping things we never saw...

I could never get into it. I watched one or two episodes and thought, "...this is boring." Granted, I also watch Ghost in the Shell, so I get plenty of T&A.

No, I think you might have skipped up to like 16 or something. After the hot springs, they start the battle with the first of the four generals of the Sprial King. And Dion, try to rough it out past the hot springs episodes...that's when the series actually starts to get interesting...the stuff up until then (minus the fight with Viral) is kinda irrelevant (except that you meet people who play important roles later in the series).

I've actually been trying to get into that one but I always think it will be one of those that was terribly overrated.

I've actually been trying to get into that one but I always think it will be one of those that was terribly overrated. Agreed. It seemd to be the same way with all mecha-based animes.
