I just finished this book and I thought it was original that the author decided to start the book centuries after the first attack of zombies. I'm not sure what it means, but I did notice that every time Mary did something risky that got her one step closer to the ocean, someone was sacrificed. When Mary made it to the path, Beth was infected. When Mary got out of the other village, she found Travis seconds from his death and eventual Return. And finally when she reaches the beach it is her brother Jed who must drown for her dream. I would like to know what other people thought of the book and for those of you who haven't read it, I highly suggest it.

First of, next time you make sure you include the author of this book in your description. It would be much appriciated. Second, I've never heard nor read this book.

Your post just confirmed that I will love this book =). It's already on my reading list, I just haven't gotten it yet. Does it stand alone, or is The Dead Tossed Waves (also by Carrie Ryan) a sequel to it?

I honestly have no idea. I think my friend who turned me onto it and is a librarian said that it did have a sequel but I don't know why the author would mess with such a good ending.
