Zacky's parents died in a car crash when he was 7, he lived in a foster home and dropped, despite being left handed he taught himself how to play the guitar at the age of 13 which his foster parents had bought him for christmas, he learned by hanging upside-down on the couch and watching his favourite bands play on and also other people he knew. He dropped out of school at the age of 15 so he could have more time to practice in a punk rock band called MPA who were unsuccesfull and he moved away from his hometown and went back to school at Crimson High.
