Forever A painful ache is in my heart My heart cries for him to come back to me I think back to the day we met in the mart Oh how he was stunning anyone could see
I know he would never come back He has another one to love What is it that I lack? Do I lack beauty that is above?
I read the love note again He said he would love me forever It causes me pain To see it is actually over
I burn the letter In the fireplace It makes the pain a little better But I still feel out of place
It has been years since I last saw him He is married now to another I feel like I can't swim And Only drown in the water

Note: Some might accuse me that this is not a tragedy poem. It is a tragedy poem. The meaning just isn't very obvious.
Chapeau Demonique
I walk through this dark circus, Watching the dark fire dance on the walls, Observing the skulls, Glowing, Floating, Lighting aflame.
I stand idly by as Death himself Walks a black tightrope That the Fates themselves spun. My face remains dead As swords are possessed By some dark demon.
You are the ringmaster, Calling black lightning to your side, Hellhounds rising out of the shadows At your bidding.
The screams are your cue To rise out of smoke, Your belt aligned with skulls. The fear is your strength, Feeding like a parasite Off of one’s terror. Entice them with your black spells, Enchanter. Close your fangs around their hearts, Murderer.
Everyone gathers in the stands, Trembling, Watching as you take center stage. “I need a volunteer from the audience,” You declare. With greedy eyes, Your gaze rests on me.
“You! Come down,” You cry, raising a bony finger at me. I obey, My heart steady Amongst a flock of hummingbirds.
You conjure a black column of smoke, Making it solid As it glistens in the dim violet spotlights. Chains are whisked from your velvet sleeve As you push me to sit in front of the column. You fasten the chains around my wrists, Crossed over one another, Chaining me to my death.
“Now watch,” You say quietly To your captivated audience, Tipping your hat.
All eyes fix on me expectantly As I watch your every move. You lean in to my ear To whisper, “Die.” I can no longer deny this place.
With a haunting cry, Your hellhounds summon me to your side, To awe each crowd And to strike terror in their hearts As my soul lights in black flames Beside you, Forever chained by your cold eyes To become your Chapeau Demonique.

The Gun
I was there when she was killed. I was there when she was shot. I was there in that back alley Standing there in shock. I was her friend, I was her best friend. She told him she was pregnant. He lost it; He went insane. I wanted to know what was going through his head When he pulled out the gun, The pistol, red hot in his hands, and pulled the trigger. One month pregnant, Baby the size of a pea. I ran. I was scared. "Come back!" he yelled. I turned around. He wasn't talking to me. He was on the ground, Hands gripping her shoulders, shaking her. "Wake up, I'm sorry! Come back!" He was talking to her. "Call 911,” he screamed at me, "I don't care what happens to me. Save her!" I pulled the cell phone out of my pocket and dialed. "911. What is your emergency?" That's when it kicked in. I panicked; I started to bawl. "She's pregnant!" I cried. "And he shot her." I looked over at him. Tears were streaming down his face. He looked over at me. "God dammit, save her!" he yelled. "Hello?" I'd forgotten about the phone. "I'm sorry. What?" Now I was scared. "The ambulance is on the way. Stay calm." Again, I looked over at him. He had collapsed on the ground beside her, crying. I could hear sirens. He looked at me. I'd never seen so much pain on one person's face. He wasn't scared for himself. He was scared for all three of them. The ambulance arrived. She was pronounced dead at the scene. No hope for the baby. I saw him again five months later, In the newspaper, In the obituaries. Suicide. They found him on his bathroom floor, With a note that read: I never would have done it if I didn't have the gun.
