quote
1 Timothy 2:12
I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.

quote
Titus 2:3-5
Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

During one of the Bible studies I go to, the women and the men parted and we talked about these verses.

Briefly, we talked about what God's intended role for us women are verses what His role for men were.
We discussed that women have the right to have our voices heard but there is a manner in which we must compose ourselves in.
We also talked about how men are better teachers because they have that authority that we tend to lack.
At the end, we touched a little bit on how this might be one of satan's lies: getting women to believe the are just as good and equal as men are.
I personally don't think that is true.

So, what are your thoughts?

I am a sinner... "1 John 1:8"

I believe that the woman should be subservient to her husband. I believe it's the man's role to work and provide for his family and it's the woman's role to raise take care of the house hold and such. In my head it's kind of like a vision of the 1950's.

I believe that woman have a right to stand up to their husbands when something isn't aligned with God's will though. We aren't doormats. I believe Men should be the preachers and Pastors but it's okay for women to be motivational speakers of some sort.

If the man is not taking the role as head of household I believe then the woman must help her husband become that way. Man and wife should be in union together building each other up in the Lord and following his will. God will use anyone to help the one who strays come back to to His will.

... Saved by God's grace "Acts 15:11"

What I think.
Well yes the man is the head of the house spiritually but me and my fiance treat each other as equals.
He does not deiced everything and neither do I, we talk about it.
We think that we should both agree on something or make a compromise, it works out pretty good for us.

We both clean the house, we both work, we both cook, we both take care of the animals, we both do everything..

In this day in time one person working isn't going to cut it.
So we both work, I'm currently in college but my mother pays me every week for helping her out with errands and random chores.

There are some things that only a woman should do and that a man should do though.

Like the man should be the one doing all of the really hard work like fixing the cars or home improvement type stuff.
And the woman should be the one sewing and knitting, packing up luggage, and doing chores like laundry or grocery shopping.

I guess we do things a bit weird but we worship the Lord and that is all that matters.

There is no Biblical foundation for women to be subservient to men. I serve God, my husband serves God. I do not serve man.

Those verses are, as shown here and as used most frequently are taken very much out of context.

See Proverbs 31 10-30 A virtuous wife

16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard

This is an OLD TESTAMENT woman who has her own business and property and is considered virtuous.

And from Paul in Romans
Romans 16

1 I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon[a] of the church in Cenchreae. 2 I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of his people and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been the benefactor of many people, including me.
3 Greet Priscilla[c] and Aquila, my co-workers in Christ Jesus. 4 They risked their lives for me. Not only I but all the churches of the Gentiles are grateful to them.

5 Greet also the church that meets at their house.

So do we just ignore these verses?

I do not in any way or form believe men should rule over women, or that a woman may not teach. I believe that some verses in the bible were done by the roman empire, honestly. But those verses must be out of context. The old testament also has different viewpoints then the new ones. I live with my guy friend until I go off to college, and as a man he has a temper. Testosterone can do that. And I have to be the one with the level head sometimes, giving instruction. It would be a disaster if I had to always follow his lead, and not make my own. Women should respect their husbands, and be good wives. And men should take care of their wives, because women bear children, and if the pregnancy is bad it might disable the woman from working for awhile. A man should be the agressor when it comes to proposing, or asking on a date, but I know women who are better at making financial decisions then their husband. Of course, in this case, the husband may be disobeying the bible. Because it tells us that a husband should love his wife like christ loved the church, and sacrifice for her. So maybe when one thing is disobeyed, everything falls apart.
