I figured that I would create a thread where people can air out the obstacles that you feel get in the way of your participating in lolita fashion. The most popular concerns i've heard being a lolita are generally how small the clothes are. In my case I am 6 feet tall, so burando dresses fall really short on me =/ I'm always trying to find ways to extend the ends of my dresses. XP
What are your obstacles? parents? body shape? money? Boyfriend? Also, what have you done, or plan to do, to try and triumph over these obstacles? =)

shousha im kinda "not thin enough" to look good in loli-clothing i guess. oh yeah. and money, money & money. Luckily, lolita clothing shops are recognizing foreigners interest and adapting most of their clothes to fit different body types! Like Baby put out a new version of the pocket embroidery jsk (I love the navy version XD!) in much more fitting styles for broader lolis =D (You can even buy it brand new from the shop for 120usd, which is a steal if you know what they usually charge) And Metamorphose usually always accommodates to larger sizes. Of course bodyline aso has items available in larger sizes as well and you can buy dresses from them for like 30usd. haha but if you're broke you're broke.. i have no money to spend on lolita right now...even if it is on sale, i need a summer job! XP

I guess my main obstacle would be the lack of support from my family. My boyfriend would rather see me in skimpy things than poofy things. I don't let that bug me too much though.

My biggest issue would be sizing. My hips ALWAYS fall on the borderline for dresses in Japan, so I often look to China for more size-friendly and custom-made affordable clothes...smaller brands found on TaoBao and etsy have been my life savers... crying

Not having friends I can relate to is my number one. The few I have seem more to be into simply GOTH GOTH AND MORE GOTH. It get's tiring. If I want to pick berries or have a tea party I am usually left alone or with my clueless mom and Grandmama.
To add to that, I have trouble finding lolita meets in my area. And it isn't a hobby I can keep myself entertained solely on the internet. :[
Sizing is a little hard for me too. Having a small body and then obnoxiously large hips makes wearing anything Japanese look awkward.

It's too bad people keep feeding into it. =/

Revenge of Meeko I guess my main obstacle would be the lack of support from my family. My boyfriend would rather see me in skimpy things than poofy things. I don't let that bug me too much though. Boys are silly sometimes D= and usually parents just need to warm up to the style of lolita clothing, often times they just need to be reassured that lolita is not a sexual thing and really have an honest heart to heart about why it is that you like lolita clothes and they are bound to accept it, I really hope that they do! ^__^

I used to live in a really tiny little town and had a hard time even finding legit goth kids to hang out with, never-mind lolitas, but i moved to the city to go to college and found a great loli community! sometimes it is just really trying when you are young and have little to no control over your surroundings =/ but it only lasts for so long! 3nodding
