Tamisin could hear the whispers of the other villagers, as it was quite obvious that they were talking about her because all eyes were on the young girl. It wasn’t shocking and Tamisin knew it was obvious she was the odd one out. She breathed deeply and kicked a small pebble in front of her on the ground as she walked behind her mother. Her shoulders slumped and Tamisin wanted to back home slumped in her quite comfy bed.

“Tamisin. Stop your sulking,” a middle-aged woman glanced over her shoulder with a disgusted expression. “Shoulders up. Smile,” she hissed. Tamisin nodded her head and did as told. She always listened to her dearest mother.

“That’s better,” the woman said and turned around.

Tamisin pursed her lips together as she unwillingly followed her Mother throughout the village market. It was a rather beautiful day despite all the whispers and stares. It was nearly afternoon with the sun almost at its highest peak in the sky above the busy market filled with buyers and merchants.

“Tamisin. Why don’t you go get a loaf of bread? I just need to pick up a couple more things. How about we meet at the main fountain? Don’t take too long like last time. I don’t have all day,” her Mother instructed. Tamisin nodded her head as she departed from her Mother.

About time, she sighed with a grin.

Jessie was having the normal boring day with his stupid parents trying to tell him what to do. ‘Stop wearing black, stop listening to creepy music, stop smoking, and his oh so favorite. Stop skipping school!’ So now here he was in the store, leaning on the end of an aisle watching Nokia dive in and out of things whistling and chirping happily. “Nokia, you do know you are making a lot of noise right?” he asked his familiar, an arched brow turned toward the pink red creature who now stopped moving to look at him. Another chirp like a baby cheetah before the little fur-ball was diving through apples.

Ok, so they were not really his parents they had adopted him; but his guardian was Mei and he visited as often as he could. Jessie liked Mei, he was fun and didn’t ever mind how he dressed or act all surprised when he did feel like smiling or making a joke. In the midst of his thought’s he got a shock when Nokia was suddenly climbing his legs and then perched on his shoulder purring like a little motor. “Did you pick a fruit out then?” Jessie’s wings fluttered, small now but he heard they would grow. Nokia chirped and wagged his tail, he pulled a bush of grapes from his cheeks and Jessie frowned.

“No, don’t go putting them there give them over now.” He held out his hand, a stern faced and was awarded by drool covered grapes being placed in it. “You know you can’t do that, the store people made me pay for a box of apples last time claiming you ate them all. You would think they had their own familiar and know you hardly eat but three grapes for ever meal. Damn box of apples would have killed you.” His rant to himself only got the answer of more purring and a hug with body and tail by Nokia who now was making himself a nest in his hoodies hat.

“Good thing you won’t grow any more fur-ball, else you would choke me doing that.” He couldn’t help but smile a bit though as he put the grapes in a see-through plastic bag, ignoring the drool that pooled on the bottom now he twisted and tied it closed. It wasn’t often he had his hood down like he did now, Mahogany colored hair with blond tips, you would think it was dyed but nope. Jessie was born this way; try telling your teachers that though as the demanded you dye your hair back to brown or black, whatever color it was before. Now though he was shopping for some food, he had Nokia’s and now he needed his own. Pb&j’s! Bread, peanut butter and jelly! Also bananas, grabbing two he placed those in new plastic bag before setting off to find the bread.

The store was closer than Tamisin anticipated and thought that her parents weren’t that far off to see if their darling daughter was doing as told without making any curious stops. She made a quick glance over her shoulder but it was much too crowded to see if her parents were actually following her. Shrugging the thought off she stepped into a store that was just as well crowded. She squeezed her way through the aisles in search of one item—bread. Tamisin brushed her fingers into her short’s pockets to see of what money she had or if she had forgotten it like last time. She felt a leather pouch buried within that contained a couple silver pieces which was more than enough to purchase a loaf of bread.

She sighed as her eyes looked up and down the barracks of food and faintly her stomach grumbled. Before leaving towards the market Tamisin had gulped down a glass of orange juices and nearly coked on a granola bar and therefore her hunger wasn’t satisfied. She shook her head and continued nonetheless. Finally finding the right aisle with the bags on bread stacked neatly on the shelves she reached up and grabbed a bag. She wasn’t sure which brand her parents got but the bag she grabbed looked fairly familiar at the homestead.

“Hey,” a low voice behind her said. Tamisin turned around to see quite the ruff male Sub-Star behind her. And behind him were a couple more. “So you’re the freak?” his words hissed off his tongue. Tamisin’s cheeks flushed as she just stared at him. At first she was shocked that he would call her such a thing but figured that’s what everyone thought of her wingless body.

“I asked you a question,” he stated firmly and stepped forwards. Tamisin stepped back and felt oddly nauseous. “Do you not talk?” his icy blue eyes staring her down. “I…I…” she stuttered and blinked a couple times.

The guy in front of her chuckled and so did his followers. “What happened to your wings? I heard that you don’t have any,” he asked though Tamisin knew that he wasn’t looking for an answer. “Stupid freak,” he spat before turning around and left.

Tamisin felt her legs wobble underneath her. She breathed in deeply and as she did so tears formed in her watery eyes. “Freak,” she whispered. Her arm dropped as she held onto the oddly heavy bag of bread. Tamisin turned around and slumped her way towards a small crate and sat down. She placed the bag on her lap and lowered her head. How come she had to be so different? The tears running down her cheeks as she tried her best to sob them back in.
