The Doctor is a centuries-old alien called a Time Lord.
His "ship" is a dimensionally transcendent vehicle with the external appearance of a British police box.
He has the ability to regenerate into a new form when seriously afflicted or injured and has been played by ELEVEN different actors, and that's just in official continuity.

if you want to go in depth with doctor who you best be looking into the 1960s classics and beguine there. you get a better view of the doctor who franchies and how it all beguines. alright it was old cheesy'ness but still thats not the point. if your that desperate to know. look into the william hartnell doctor..the first doctor. wink
