 If the space marines are the emperor's blade.
The imperial guardsmen, his shield and the Ecclesiarchy his bow.
Then we, his divine inquisition are the hand that guides them, maintains them, and keeps them from turning against man.
The heretics shall fear us, witches and sinners shall fall at our blades and the blasted xenos who fight us across this, his most blessed of galaxies, shall burn before they harm the people's bodies... or their minds.

The premise. Don't get scared by the burning and xenos, this is actually going to be rather simple.
The basic idea is an inquisitorial squad, a team of misfits who were chosen to preform holy duties, from outing cults to simple warfare. Based in the Warhammer 40K universe, this shall take place at the most recent point in the time line, the closing years of the 42'nd millennium, a background knowledge of warhammer would help but is not necessary.
Why not? Cos' this shall be freeform, anything goes, for all I care you could be someone else's copyrighted character. This is loosely based on the premise of the inquisition just to give it some backbone and a common plot.

Basic 40K info n' stuff. The Imperium of man.Humanity is currently the largest force in the galaxy, but barely, even with the millions of planets the have and the endless troops, the enemies are great and many. The Emperor, was a mortal once, one of immense wisdom and strength, but now he is a god, a corpse entombed in a golden throne that gave him eternal life. The people worship him, he alone gave them strength and their greatest protectors. But his greatest creations would be his downfall. The troops
Imperial guard, humans united in the emperors name, mainly a defence force for the many planets. The uniform may vary and his home may be far away but he would hight for you as strongly as he would his own son, but only because he would get shot if he didn't.
The commissars keep the troops in line, killing any who show any sign of weakness, and since Everyman is needed to join the guard for 5 years, a lot of ordinary men get shot.
They have massive amounts of tanks to make up for the general ineptitude of the troops who get minimum training and rather useless "lasguns". The space marines
The emperor's sons, spawned from his D.N.A they have his 8 foot stature and can take wounds that would kill a legion of imperial guardsmen. They are known as the angels of death for good reason, the armour they wear strikes fear into any enemy. The weapons they wield are the greatest known to man, they are his angels and they shall know no fear!
The Ecclesiarchy
The zealous and mighty sisters of battle, a church of female warriors who use holy fire to burn the unclean. Despite their appearance they are human females, not genetically modified at all, just pious and set on their cause.

Adeptus Mechanicus
The only people with the knowledge to maintain the factories and the weapons of war, the are both feared and respected.
Psykers
Those born with the mutation of psykick powers, they guide the ships, tell the truth from lies, and fry the enemies brains with cool lightning stuff.
The inquisition
Those few men who are given absolute power to judge anyone, be him man or marine, as a heretic to be cleansed. Those men have the power to call upon anyone to serve in battle under him, they are the inquisitors and they are to be feared.
Inquisitorial squads
an inquisitor can call on anyone to be part of an inquisitorial squad, either soldiers who are skilled, or ones seeking redemption. Either way the task is simple, find corruption and eliminate it, given any means necessary.
That's about it, anything else is jargon that I will describe later.

Personality: Despite holding a position that puts her on regular battlefield duty, she is rather `bouncy`. Even after the horrors of war play out infront of her she ignores it and retains her happy nature, something that has her under odd suspicion.
Past: Born as minor nobility on mars she was easily able to gain access to scholarship, this was enough for her to grasp an understanding of machines. At age 8 she was accepted into the Adeptus Mechanicus as an adept, learning from one of the techpriest there. At but 16 she got her servo-harness and has been a techpriest ever since, actually one of the few to maintain no visible robotic parts other than the harness.
weapons: The servo harness has two arms, one with five long this fingers with digital lasers built in, and one with three, each with a plasma cuter, her power axe.
