Races:
Oth-Narog -
The Oth-Narog resemble humans, with a few small differences. Their skin varies from a light to dark shade of brown. Their hair can be any color, but the most typical colors are dark brown and red. They are born with "markings" on their faces, arms, and legs (The markings are similar to tattoos, but permanent. They can be anything from simple stripes to elaborate tribal designs.) Their ears have a distinct pointy tip, similar to the elves of human mythology. Their heights are typically anywhere between five feet and seven feet tall. Since the civilization is spread out across vast distances, there can be great variations in appearance amongst tribes.
Golems -
The Golems are the ancient people of the desert. Unlike the Oth-Narog, they have a centralized government and there is order in their empire. Their skin is rock-hard and resistant to the vicious winds of the desert. Their bodies are covered in stone-like armor that is difficult to penetrate with most weapons, but they are vulnerable to magic. Unlike the Golems of human lore, most of them aren't huge monsters. Their bodies are similar in shape to humans. Their rock-hard skin sets them apart. Most golems stand between six feet and eight feet tall. They have distinct, humanoid facial features.
There are two golem cities in the world of Algol. One lies far in the North, and the other is in the West, past the lands where no Oth-Narog will dare to go. Their technology far surpasses that of the Oth-Narog. They greatly distrust magic, and in their society, study of arcane lore is punishable by death.
The Golems and the Oth-Narog dislike each other, due to events that happened long ago. For the most part, they don't interact. However, when a wandering Golem finds his way to a vulnerable village, there's no telling what could happen . . .
Imperions-
The Imperions are similar to harpies. They have the upper body of a humanoid creature, and the lower body of a powerful bird of prey. Their wings allow them to fly freely through the skies of Algol. Their legs are covered in feathers, and instead of feet they have sharp talons. Their feathers can be any color, or a combination of colors. Out of all the races of Algol, the Imperions are the only ones that aren't native to the planet. They came from the stars thousands of years ago. They brought magic and incredible technology to Algol. Their numbers have dwindled over the past two hundred years, but a small group of them still lives in their kingdom in the sky.
The secrets of old Algol, and of Asa-Luna are said to dwell within its walls.
The Imperions are said to dwell in the metal kingdom of Lair, high above the clouds. By most of the creatures of Algol, this is regarded as nothing but a legend. But once in a great while, someone will claim to see a majestic, birdlike creature out of the corner of their eye.
Wraiths -
Wraiths rule the shadows and lurk in the dark places where no one dares to go. They haunt the dead cities of Algol. They have an insatiable hunger for the soul of any living creature. Their appearance varies, but they are always black and wreathed in darkness. They can change their forms at will, but they often appear as menacing, ghostlike monsters in long black robes. The face of a Wraith is said to be able to make all but the bravest warriors fall to their knees in fear. Lost travellers that were unfortunate enough to encounter a Wraith are said to never be the same again. That is, if they live to tell the tale.
Wraiths stick to the shadows, because they dislike the sunlight. All Wraiths dream of a time when darkness will reign over light. They are abundant in ruins and abandoned towns. It is said that they haunt the streets of Asa-Luna, and plot the doom of all life on Algol.
Demons -
Countless lesser demons wander through the desert. Many of them are lost and constantly searching for food. Demons vary in appearance, but most of them are humanoid. The majority of them have congregated in the ruins of Asa-Luna, but some demons wander the sands forever. (Demons don't necessarily have to be "evil to the core." They are predisposed to being "evil" and causing mischief, but wandering demons can technically interact with other races on friendly terms.)
Other Races -
Countless beasts live in the desert. There are animals that resemble cats, wolves, snakes, and many other creatures.
There are many other creatures in the world of Algol that weren't mentioned here. (In other words, if you have an idea for a new race, PM me. I would be happy to list it here.)
