Now that the vampires are spreading and wreaking havoc, Hungary has volunteered to help take care of the problem. Romania tries to keep the vampires contained to Transylvania but has failed. Elizabeta reined in her horse to better inspect a footprint in the snow. The poor stallion was starting to get skittish, and the footprint was recent. She had to be getting close. And since no one but vampires, and her, would be out in this harsh part of the land, she had no worries about accidentally coming across a normal human.

She slid off the horse and grabbed her crossbow and bolts. Long range fighting was best when it came to vampires. She'd already killed a few in the last couple of days. Hungary was on a roll, and even better, was having fun. It had been a while since she'd been able to fight like this. And being in Transylvania brought back nostalgic memories of when it used to be hers. She frowned as that thought led to Romania. She didn't deserve to have Transylvania. If it still belonged to Hungary, she'd have kept those vampires in check and slaughtered them all before they could spread. Perhaps if she got rid of all the monsters, she could negotiate and get this land back. It would be a fair prize for ridding the world of this vermin.

With that pleasant thought in mind, Elizabeta left the stallion. He was a well-trained horse. He would stay there until she got back no matter what. However, if she continued on with him it would push the horse to his limit and he'd bolt. She had no desire to lose this horse, so she continued following the trail on foot, checking to make sure she still had a few stakes with her, just in case the vamp got too close.

An eerie silence set in. There was no sound of an animal scurrying about, or bird, or even the soft howl of the wind. It was as if the world had grown mute. Only the sound of the snow crunching and shuffling from the horse broke it. It had already grown dark and now only the moonlight provided Elizabeta with light to see. Ahead of her was a forest of dark, naked trees. Their branches were covered with the ever piling up snow and a few even had long icicles hanging from them.

The footsteps Hungary was following led into the forest and, judging from how they appeared, it was safe to say the creature had been running. Vampires had always existed, despite what the rest of the world knew. Romania’s failure to keep them in check had led to an unexpected growth in their population. For a while, they had remained in the wilderness, only attacking humans who strayed across their path. Now, they seemed to have gone into towns and killing people in the middle of the night. The local townspeople, the ones who lived in the smaller villages, locked their doors at night and slept uneasily. Though they didn’t know who was the culprit, it was enough to keep them alert. In the town at the base of this small mountain, the locals spoke of a red eyed demon, one who would linger in the dark alleys and stalk their prey. Most of those killed had been women but all their bodies had been left in a bloody mess.

That same creature was said to reside in the area that Elizabeta was now in. The footsteps weaved along, following the snow covered path for a time but then suddenly disappeared. The trees above creaked as a slow wind began to pick up. Above, the branches began to sway a little from the wind, the snow piled on them lightly being blown off. Quite suddenly, a laugh rang out in the darkness. A loud, obviously male laughter that seemed to bounce off the trees in the area.

“You have a lot of guts coming here, woman!” The owner of the voice couldn’t be seen and it sounded as if he was everywhere. His voice, like the laughter, seemed to encircle the huntress, making his exact location difficult to immediately discover.

Taking her horse's behavior and the utter silence into consideration, Eliza went forward cautiously, eyes darting from one place to another frequently, and occasionally glancing behind her. She did not want to be caught unawares.

She had taken the time to gather information from the nearest locals before she left, as she did for every area she went to hunt in. They often had good information. Hungary was skeptical about it when they claimed the demon had red eyes. As she'd watched the light of life leave the eyes of the previous vampires she'd killed, she had noticed that their eyes were normally colored, the same as any human's eyes. If the townspeople were telling the truth, then this must have been an albino vampire. Her determined frown crept into a small grin as she imagined that amusing image.

It slipped back to a frown as she thought of the only albino she knew of. Well.. had known of. Elizabeta had long ago stopped wondering if she'd ever see him again. Gilbert had been gone for twenty years. She couldn't see how he could still be alive. Prussia had always liked being the center of attention. If he were alive, he wouldn't have just up and gone into hiding somewhere, and especially not for this long. She was sure his ego wouldn't allow it.

Hungary stopped when the tracks ended, breaking out of her reverie to focus on the task at hand. She glanced around but didn't see anymore prints nearby. Moving cautiously and as quick as she dared, she readied her crossbow and looked into the trees, scanning the branches. Some of the snow being blown off the branches fell into her eye. She was blinking away the cold moisture when she heard the laugh.

Eliza quickly turned full circle, aiming the crossbow and moving it to follow her gaze. When she saw nothing the first time around, she turned around again, slowly. She smirked when the monster spoke. Ah, good. A cocky one. She was always up for a challenge. "Ha! I have more guts than you do. Come on out, you cowardly pest, and show yourself."

Above, the creature scoffed. “So what? You can stick me with your crossbow? Hmph, I’m not stupid.” He stated, sounding as if he were smirking. Cockiness. Confidence. It was all in his voice. It was apparent that he thought highly of himself.

A branch creaked and a pile of snow fell to the ground off to Elizabeta’s right. It sounded as if the vampire was moving, shifting his position. A brief of wind came through, rattling the little branches and icicles that hung from them. Though she couldn’t see him, the man was circling, watching her as he did so. Even from this distance, he could smell her. Her blood, to be exact. It smelt good… very good. Although, if he wanted her, he would have to go through that crossbow first. It could be done, sure, but he had a feeling she wasn’t totally helpless or unable to fight. Since she came all the way out here to look for him, it must mean she possessed some fighting skill. Unless, of course, she just had a death wish. Not even the strongest men of the village ventured into his woods.

“You’re either very brave or very stupid.” He stated, pausing on a branch behind her. He had finally stopped moving though he still projected his voice as if he were still moving. “I’m going to go with the latter.”

He crept up the branch a little, wanting a better look at the woman. His eyes could easily pierce the darkness so he could see her in great detail, even from this distance. She was pretty, beautiful even but so were the others. They were all beautiful. This one wasn’t any different. Her accent was different though. She didn’t sound as though she was from this land. Than again, even he held a certain accent, providing proof that he too wasn’t from here.

“So, let me guess,” He said, watching the woman. “You’ve come all the way out here to kill me, right? You must be surrounded by cowardly men if they allow one of their women to come out here, all alone, to face me.” He smirked in the shadows of the tree.

She smiled. "Oh, look. I've found one with brains. That's rare. The others of your kind I've seen were as stupid as chickens." Elizabeta never let her guard down as she spoke. She turned sharply as the snow fell next to her and she kept her eyes to the branches above her. He would come out eventually to attack. She'd just have to be a little patient.

She was somewhat impressed. The last few she'd hunted hadn't had the foresight to plan ahead much. They were more attack first and think later. This one was different. She'd have to be careful.

"Stop hiding and come out. I don't have time for these games." At first she had shouted her words, unsure of how far away the vampire was. By now she'd lowered her voice to a conversational volume. He could obviously hear her. There was no need to shout.

Hungary frowned when the monster finished speaking. Cowardly men? True, this vampire had no idea who Austria was, but she took it as a personal insult against him anyhow. "Roddie is not cowardly!" Her eyes widened slightly as she realized she'd almost let her guard slip. s**t. She couldn't let things like that get to her.

Her voice became more level as she continued scanning the trees. "I don't need to be allowed to go anywhere. I am an independent nation, not ruled by anyone." He wouldn't know what she meant by calling herself a nation either, of course, but if she could confuse the monster a little, then hey, all the better for her. She paused in her endless turning, squinting her eyes a little as she stared at a distant tree. From this distance she couldn't tell if it was a figure or just some animal on the branch. She kept her eyes, and her crossbow, on whatever it was for a few moments, planning to shoot if it moved.

The vampire laughed again, though it had lost it’s echoing ability. This was too much fun! He never had fun like this with the others. They were always too scared and made the chase boring. But this one, this one was something else. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it but he did enjoy taunting her. It was entertaining.

Though, when the woman said ‘Roddie’, the vampire’s laughter stopped. “Roddie…?” He spoke the name a little slower than before. The name sounded almost familiar to him but he brushed it aside. If he couldn’t remember it, than it wasn’t important. “Heh, is that the name of your boyfriend? A man with such a weak a** name… No wonder he sent you! He’s too much of a wuss to come here himself!” The vampire chuckled again, laughing mostly to himself. He was mainly taunting the woman. He’d noticed the reaction he’d gotten out of her and wanted to know if he could do it again.

He shifted positions, ducking behind the tree trunk to leap down to another branch below. With that bow in her hands, it would be difficult to attack. He could attack from behind but that was just cowardly and he was no coward. No, when he attacked, it would be where she could see him.

He stopped when the woman spoke again, slightly confused on what she was talking about but, again, brushed it aside. Most things women said were confusing anyway. Carefully, he slipped from behind the tree, getting up onto another branch. By now, he figured the huntress would have at least made a guess as to where he was. Good. Right now, he hoped she could see him. Hiding like this was getting old. It was fun, yes, but now he craved for a little more excitement. He slipped down again behind the tree and quietly leaped to the ground. He was still hidden behind the trunk so if she fired, she wouldn’t hit him.

“I may have already fed tonight but you just smell too good to pass by.” He said, leaning against the tree. He smirked, “Maybe I could just take you with me and keep you until tomorrow. What do you think of that?” He stepped out from behind the tree, ending up stepping into bits of the moonlight as well. It hit his hair first, showing that his hair was white or silver in color, though the moon probably made it appear whiter than it really was. The same went with his pale complexion though it was his clothes that may have stuck out a little. He wasn’t dressed like many people were nowadays. He was wearing a dark blue overcoat which was unbuttoned and a dark, blood red shirt underneath, the color coming up over the jacket. His pants were dark colored as well and he was wearing boots. Around his neck and tucked into his shirt was a white scarf. The clothes seemed old, older than what people wore now.

User ImageShe took note of the way the vampire said her ex's name, but it was forgotten with the next slew of insults. She cursed at him in her language. Elizabeta had always loved the colorful curses her people had come up with over the years. "Oh would you just shut up and come out here so I can kill you already?"

"Hmph. I'm flattered, but I'll have to pass on that offer. You aren't the only vampire I have to kill tonight." As soon as she saw the figure move, she fired the crossbow, but her hands were shaking from the insults he'd aimed at Roddie. She knew she'd missed as soon as the bolt was fired. She cursed again and aimed at the figure.

Hungary was about to fire again when she saw the color of his hair and she paused. She held her fire as more of the vampire was revealed. The clothes were very odd compared to the other monsters she'd come across, but it was the hair that made the biggest impression on her. She did know others with white hair, like some of the Nordic nations, but this was a different kind of white. It was just like his hair... Elizabeta closed her eyes for a moment and shook her head. She couldn't let her mind wander like this. It was dangerous.

He couldn’t help but feel lucky the bolt missed him. Than again, it was probably due to his great speed. This woman probably couldn’t even shoot correctly! The thought made him smirk and feel even more confident about this. Maybe he would take her with him. If she was nice, he might even let her share his bed.

When the huntress hesitated, he took this moment to attack. The moment her eyes closed, he launched forward, quickly grabbing the crossbow and knocking it out of the way, trying to throw it from her grip. Using his strength, he slammed her in to a tree and grabbed her hands, pinning her there. He leaned forward, close to her neck and inhaled deeply. God, he could practically feel her blood already. He wasn’t even hungry now but his mouth was watering at the mere scent. If she smelt like this, than her blood must taste a million times better. “Heh, you really do smell good. So much better than those little maids in the village.” He said, leaning close enough to her neck for his nose to touch. Her skin was so warm, so much warmer compared to his own cold flesh.

“I imagine you taste better too.” It took every ounce of self control to not bite her right now. It wasn’t every day he came across someone who smelt like this. “I could make you my little pet. A little blood slave.” He raised his head so he was looking at her, face to face now, his ruby red eyes meeting her green orbs.

Elizabeta opened her eyes just a second too late. She tightened her grip, but even as she did, she felt the bow slip out of her hand. Damn. She'd have to call it a night after she killed this one. Obviously she needed some rest if she allowed a vampire to get this close to her.

Then she hit the tree and her lungs ached as she forced them to work after the breathe was knocked out of her. This monster was stronger than other vampires, too. He was just downright abnormal. While he talked, she slowly grabbed one of the stakes. As soon as she had a good grip on it, she used her other hand to try and push him away with all the strength she had. Half an arms length was all she'd need to drive it into his heart.

Elizabeta was getting annoyed now. This guy really liked to talk. Well, let him talk all he wants. The more he talked, the better her chances of surviving. "Blood slave? I don't think so, you bloodthirsty mons-" Anything else she wanted to say left her mind when she saw his face. No way. It couldn't be.

"Gil?" she asked, disbelief plain on her face. How the hell did Prussia let himself be attacked by a vampire? Eliza glared at him and her voice took on a stern tone. "Prussia, what the hell are you doing, you idiot? All this talk of drinking my blood and being your pet? Is this your idea of a joke? Let me go right now, Gilbert."

Confusion makes it’s way across the vampire’s face. He stares at Elizabeta and frowns, looking very unsure as to what she was talking about. One minute, this woman was a huntress, bent on killing him, and now… well she sounded as if she was a scolding mother. It wasn’t right and it sent him for a loop.

He shook his head, “I don’t… You are mistaken, woman.” He states as he stares at the woman. She’s a peculiar one. We did she have to be strange though? Why did all the hot, good smelling ones have to be weird? Did she not fear him? Looking into her eyes now, he searched for that emotion. A hint, a twitch, a something - anything to tell him that this was just some kind of act to throw him off. Yet, as he searched, all he could find was annoyance and disbelief.

This greatly confused him.

But, his eyes harden again, regaining the fierce, hard look they once had. “Look at where you’re at. You’re not in any position to give me orders.” He reached down, catching her other hand, the one with the stake in it. Yeah, he knew it. It was just a trick. The whole ’Gilbert, Prussia’ thing was just some act to make him loose his focus. It almost succeeded too.

"I'm not," she said, absolutely sure that this was Gil, even if he didn't believe it himself. "You are Prussia. And you were stupid enough to get bitten by a vampire. How could you let that happen to yourself, Gil? At least now I know where you've been for the last twenty years."

That was just great. She finally finds Prussia and he's a damn vampire. One with amnesia at that. She didn't care when the stake was taken. She'd never been afraid of Gilbert. Why should she start now?

Elizabeta took a moment from nagging him to study his face. He really didn't remember. "Was your brain destroyed when you were turned? It's me, Eliza. Hungary! You know me. You've known me for centuries."

‘Gilbert’ growled in his throat, “I’m not stupid! And stop calling me Prussia! I have no idea what you’re talking about!” Somehow, this had changed from a hunt, to a game, and now to a debate. This woman said he was this Prussia fellow but Gilbert knew otherwise. Or, at least he assumed he knew otherwise. His memory of the time before he was a vampire was still cloudy and patchy. The few things he was sure about was that he came from somewhere around Germany and that he was a lot older than most of these new vampires. Other than that, it was mostly a blank.

He frowned, not taking his eyes off the woman in front of him. Could this be another act? No, she sounded so sure of herself. Her eyes held no fear of him and she was even carrying on a conversation with him…

“Eliza…” He repeated, saying the name slowly to himself. His frown of annoyance formed into one of confusion and his pale colored brows furrowed. The name was familiar, almost as familiar as the last one she had said (Roddie, was it?) but he couldn’t remember. It felt as though something was tickling the back of his brain and he couldn’t get it to stop. “I… don’t…” He trailed off, his eyes moving off of Hungary as he looked to the side. He looked so confused and unsure now. He felt as though he should remember her but he couldn’t. He simply couldn’t draw up a memory of her.

As he tried remembering, he didn’t notice that his grip on her wrists had lightened up. He was too distracted by trying to think of where he had heard of these names.

"You went and got yourself turned. You're stupid." She kept eye contact with her old friend for as long as he did with her. "Yes, Gil. Eliza. Elizabeta. Hungary," she encouraged as his gaze broke away. He was faltering, which meant that he must be close to remembering. He had to be.

When his hold on her loosened, she moved slowly, not wanting to spook him. She feared that any sudden movements on her part might cause him to completely disregard what he might be remembering. She carefully raised her hands, holding onto his shoulders and tilted her head, trying to get him to make eye contact again. "Even if you don't remember me, then I'm sure you remember Francis and Antonio, right? The three of you were inseparable. They were your best friends."

Eliza didn't go for any of the other stakes hidden on her. If he succeeded in remembering even a little bit, there'd be no need for them at all. If he snapped and reverted back... well, she'd just have to make sure that didn't happen.

Elizabeta… Hungary… Antonio… Francis… she kept saying these names. Well, Hungary was a no brainer. That was the country that bordered Romania. But then… why was she calling herself Hungary? Maybe it was some kind of joke? She had spoken Hungarian a moment ago, could it be she was from there?

He tried not to meet her gaze, wanting to figure this own on his own. They sounded familiar but that was about it. If they meant anything to him, he couldn’t remember. The harder he concentrated, the more his head started to hurt and he grew frustrated. What was with this woman? Elizabeta. Why did she want him to remember? From the way she spoke to him, it was as if she had been his friend. Gilbert couldn’t remember any of that. He couldn’t remember but there were feelings. They should have gone with memories but there were none!

He looked at Elizabeta, his brows slightly furrowed together. For a moment he appeared confused, appearing to be searching the woman’s eyes for something. But then, he pushed it back. “You’re just trying to confuse me by saying weird s**t. I don’t know you or any of these people you keep naming off.” He said, bringing up his hands to push Hungary away. He stepped away, not turning his back to her but still didn’t look at her. He felt like, if he showed anymore emotion aside from his usual self to her, he would lose. Gilbert didn’t like loosing so he pushed it all back. The fact these names sounded familiar troubled him though. How could he knew these names but not know the people attached to them?
