Alright, so here's my question. Does anyone (Bass or guitar) Play in Drop D other than me?? I live by Drop D. Everything I write is in DD (Drop D) and I learn all the songs for my band in DD too, even if their not in that tuning to begin with (I learned crazy train in DD mrgreen I feel special). The thing is, no one in my area uses it, they either find it a dumb waste of time and a useless tuning to use, or they don't know what the f*** DD is. I play in DD and I havent been playing for that long, my bassist plays in DD too oddly enough (only once in a while). I just hate it when I get teased before a show by other guitarists telling me that I don't know s**t about guitars and they don't even know what DD is, or even play songs in DD. Come on people, am I the only one who plays in DD??

no lots of people know what it is. i also like douple drop d which is when the high e is tuned down to d aswell.

A crapload of people use Drop D tuning on their guitar. I didn't know people used it on bass. I however find it a waste of time anyway. Much prefer standard E, because it's way more widely used, and well cause I can tune standard, I'm not sure how to tune drop D. You don't need to be able to play drop D to be a good guitarist.

A guitar is still a guitar no matter how you tune it, its just preferance. Malmsteen drops standard 1/2 step down, Bodom drops standard whole step down, Steve Vai tunes standard but plays the low B on his 7 string instead of tuning down, and then you got the wierd guys from korn tuning thier 7 string down an whole step. Its just what sound your looking for. I play in many different tunings, it depends on the song.

it's a tuning Opeth used on their last album
it's a standard E tuning with the 1ts 2nd 3rd and 6th dropped a whole step
i like it...but it's kinda hard to get used to...

(By ear) I used the basic facts that, considering standard tuning is what your tuning is, the low E's 5th fret is the same as the open A string and that for example 3 and 5 make a G powerchord in standard and that two same frets make a powerchord in Drop D. And then tried to tune it accordingly.. But that got me no where. The E was either too low or too high..

Come one... Drop C is so much more fun! XP... I've seen this thread somewhere else before. Drop D can be kewl sometimes. Alternate tunings have their uses.

drop D.... drop C..... I'm playing drop B at the moment biggrin that is just awsome only my string are so weak now that's at bit anoying but ah well sounds great soo razz
