 In a world of old, warriors ruled. Aided by the powers of the elements, sects of fearsome men and women fought for control of the world. Weilding fire, air, water, light, dark, electricity, plants, and earth; the warriors controlled the land, and the people on it. At first, times were good; the people were protected by the warriors, by the strange powers they wielded.
But then everything went wrong.
The warriors fought with one another, heedless of those around them. Common people, citizens, who did not have the powers…they suffered. They were killed, in an attempt to destroy opponents. Their lands were burnt, warped, their homes destroyed. They lived in constant fear of attack, and constant fear that one day their warriors would not be able to defend.
Their fear drew the fury of the gods. They had bestowed the powers upon man to assist him, to help him grow. Destruction was not their purpose.
In a sweep of wrath, they stripped the warriors of their powers, and contained them in eight artifacts, scattering them about the earth, hidden and never to be found.
That was their intention, at least.
Now, in modern day, the artifacts have been found. But they are not in museums. They are family heirlooms, strange things found in dumpsters, shiny baubles that rolled underfoot. They are rich for the taking; but who will find them? And what shall they be used for? To Control? Or, perhaps, to Defend…

 The time is Modern Day.
The world is as we know it; bustling, loud, and filled with people. We have iPods, television, internet, cars; modern day inventions, for modern day life, with modern day people.
The city is Tallenpoint, fairly large, fairly busy. It has many parks, and a large lake within it's limits. It's also host to the regular city things; a mall, restaurants, apartments, houses...
The time of the warriors is forgotten. But in their day, the world was known as Merlan, and it was much smaller than it is now. There were few people, their societies medieval, ruled by the elemental warrior sects known as temples.
Of course, clearly, that is long gone. Unfortunately, it is the only world the spirits know.
