I was introduced to the show somewhere around episode 15 or 16, and I absolutely fell in love with it, but it sucks because I don't really know everyones background/history with one another.
I'd like to know what happened to Kurt's mother. All I can gather from YouTube and what I have seen of the show is that she died, but how? Was she killed, or did she succumb to an illness? And how old was Kurt when this took place??
Also, there is a small clip on YouTube of Kurt saying, "I know its stupid, but sometimes I'll sneak in there, open all the drawers and...." But it cuts off there. I have a hunch that he is talking about her, and I would love it if you could finish that line for me!!

The show dint say about much of the history about Kurts mom, All we know is Kurt's mom is dead and Finn's dad is Dead, I think Finns mom is gonna be Kurt's new mom

They don't say how she died but I do believe that she died when he was 8 and he's 16 now.

From what I can gather from my own research, she either died in a car accident or from a disease when Kurt was 8. Although, they didn't say in the show how she died or what she died from. And also, Finn's dad is dead, but he was still a baby when he died, so he doesn't remember his dad, but Kurt remembers his mom. But, Kurt set up his dad with Finn's mom in hopes of getting to be closer to Finn, and, if everything goes well, Finn's mom will be Kurt's step-mom. I'm surely hoping so...

As for that quote, it went like this, "The broken dresser in the room, still smells like her perfume. I know its stupid, but sometimes I'll sneak in there and, open all the drawers and lay on the floor and close my eyes and just, smell her."

I hope they reveal that in season two. I've seen every episode (more than once). In one episode (Ballad) Kurt said it was 10 years ago, but in another (Home) Burt sad it was 8 years ago. So Kurt was either 6 or 8 when his mom died.
