In the Japanese version of Fallout 3, the quest to blow up Megaton has been completely removed due to its "parallels to real historic events" quotes Official Xbox Magazine[1]. They are referring to the atomic bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.

[link]Supposedly in the Japanese release of Fallout 3, you're not given the choice to blow up Megaton because of the fact that it's a reference to the atomic bombs that dropped in WWII. We have had many cases in the video game industry where sensitive material is either censored or causes controversy (an example would be COD: Modern Warfare 2, where you go into the airport undercover as a terrorist and choose to kill innocent lives or not).
Do you think it was necessary to censor out the bomb in Megaton? What are your opinions on this subject?
I would censor it personally, it's not like destroying the town is a good idea regardless. Many people would be offended, and I don't think a game containing planes crashing in to twin building would make it into the US now would it? I read about this a few months back and though nothing of it, but then I start thinking about censorship in not only Japan but other countries as well.
(On topic but not Fallout xD) One example is Left 4 Dead 2. With the new graphics engine, more "gib" and gore effects were possible in the game several countries tried to ban it, which is a little two faced thinking about what some countries are known for. (Japan and Australia, I'm talking to you) This used to be a long a** rant, but I shortened it, because it was QUITE the rant.
Disco: So the HUNDRED OF THOUSANDS innocent Japanese make up for thousands mostly military causalities? We did it to make an example but too much of an example, even the man who created the nuclear basics of the bomb was ashamed of it's use.
