Shampoo that is. ^_^ I've read a lot about switching from using shampoo to alternatives. In December 2009 I decided my hair needed serious help. It's long and pretty, but it's thin and weak, breaks easily, and the ends are all frazzled. My roots were very very oily and the ends were dry and brittle. Nothing I used seemed to help at all. I looked into it and the more I read about it the more I was convinced to stop using shampoo all together.

If you are interested in alternatives to chemical household products then I recommend looking into this. I use baking soda to wash and vinegar to rinse. I've been using it for over 6 months now and I have noticed positive changes all around. I cut my hair short to get rid of the dead ends, then I stopped using shampoo. The smell of vinegar is very strong, but once your hair dries it no longer smells. I add essential oils to my vinegar to change the scent. I'm using lemon oil right now. I have fresh, lemony scented hair after each shower. ^_^ My scalp is a lot less oily now. My hair seems to be getting thicker and stronger as well. All I can go by is how it looks and feels to me, however. I have no way to gauge it's thickness. ^_^ I'll upload before and after photos that I took to share with you.
I let my hair get oily on purpose as a test. I didn't wash my hair for 4 days and I noticed A LOT LESS oil in my hair. After 4 days it still starts to look dirty, but that's because it is dirty. *laughs* I used to get oily looking hair overnight, so this is a big change for me. I'm enjoying the new look and feel of my hair. And I hope it grows back to how long it was before soon!

Natural Conditioners

**I do not currently use a regular conditioner. I'm looking to find a recipe using lavender and vanilla essential oils, or some citrus blend. I think I'd like a water-based product that I can mist into my hair regularly.

I just stocked up on poo and conditioner, but I really really want to try this. Will let you know how it goes. How long did it take your hair to adjust?

I have thick and coarse hair. I've found the only thing that fixes it is a good salon cut and salon hair products. Even when I buy from the local stores, I buy the more expensive products that don't shred up my hair. I've even put pureed mango and papaya in my hair to soften it up. My hair gets dry very easily and takes days for it to have any oil.

Just means I stick with the salon stuff for now.

I've been thinking about doing a complete chemical overhaul of my house lately, I just need to find the right recipes to make my own cleansers and cosmetics. There are sooo many harmful chemicals in your shampoos and conditioners and some of them have even been linked to cancers.
At the moment, I'm going through a 30 day dry out period to just use up all I have left of my chemical supplies and then I'm switching over to eco-cosmetics and home made cleansers and cleaners.
I'm so glad you posted this, It certainly gives me more confidence in what to expect.

I currently just use Lush products. I made the switch last year after I found a local store and a steady job. It took me a while to adjust simply because I had just moved here and I wasn`t used to the water down here. (Used to have hard water, then moved to a soft water area.)

Lush Shampoo`s

But yeah. I love their shampoos. I currently have Karma Komba ♥, Godiva ♥, Tricomania ♥, Seanik ♥, New! ♥, Soak and Float ♥, and Dr, Peppermint ♥. (Dr.Peppermint is a Retro item of theirs so you can only buy it online.) Each costs me $9.95 CDN per bar. But they are worth it. They also have a really good deal for them. Buy two shampoo`s, get a shampoo tin for free. (Regular value = $3.95 CDN) Which is pretty good, especially when you travel around. (Just not on a plane. =3= They don`t like metal stuff...)

Each bar has it`s own special qualities designed to tackle different jobs.
Example:

Godiva - Is a cleansing and conditioning bar. It has it`s own conditiong bar pieces within the shampoo so you can condition and soap your hair. It`s scented with jasmine and leaves your hair very soft and smelling very pretty and feminine.

Karma Komba - Is made with patchouli, citrus and their signature fragrence Karma. It doesn`t have any conditioner in it, but it does effectively detangle any hair. Also the scent is lovely and lasts through the day.

Soak and Float - Is for itchy, flaky and irritated scalps. It doesn`t smell great, but the scent reminds me of a campfire. But dispite the smell, it work. It helps soothe irritation and redness all while clearing up any dandrif problems you may have,

Seanik - Is made with seaweed, seasalt and lemon juice to liven up dull and flat hair. It is scented with mimosa flowers to give it a nicer smell. But this little bar really add body and shine to hair.

New! - Is made with cinnamon, clove and mint to stimulate hair growth. The smell is lovely and it tends to make your hair softer.

Tricomania - Is their coconut base shampoo. This one really helps with dry and frizzy hair. It also really softens your hair up and you`ll find yourself petting your hair alot after using this.

Dr. Peppermint - Is for stimulating hair growth. I`ve noticed my hair has grown quite a bit after using this.

Now dispite all the shampoos that they have, all of their soaps are hair friendly as well. Even their jelly soaps are wonderful on hair. (Especially Iced Wine. ♥)
