Now, one of the most frequently asked questions is 'What is your favorite Disney Song?" but I want to take this a step further and note the music that makes the music.
Would any of our favorite films be the same without epic music in the background? I think not, no scene would be as intense, dramatic, sorrowful, romantic, etc. without the epic pieces of music that composers have added to make the movies all the more awesome.
So, here we go, write down your favorites scores, it doesn't have to be just one, cause, thats really hard. Also, give us a bit of info of what you look for in a good score and why the scores you've chosen fit that.
Some of Alli's Faves.
Sanctuary!/He Shall Smite the Wicked ~ Hunchback of Notre Dame: Alan Menken/Stephen Schwartz
-Now, these scores fit well together so I made them into one. These scores are just intense, you've got some powerful instruments in their like the chorus and pipe organ for all the dramatic parts and the violin for some of the lower key parts. And these scores go over so many different emotions, we have fear, rage, joy, sorrow, suspense, etc. I have to say that the chorus with the latin chanting makes this all the more intense, but, this never fails to give me chills.
Transformation~Beauty and the Beast: Alan Menken
-Again, another score that just has so much different emotions and flows so well, from the sorrow of losing a loved one, to awe, happiness, and finishing off with one of the most well renowned romantic pieces of all of disney. I love the variety of instruments you get in this score, from the sympathetic strings, and even brass which was well used for the sorrowful scene, but they even got the harpsicord in there. I like the turns this score takes, from the sort of hopeful tone to a final grasp for life, then hopelessness and then to the actual transformation which is very powerful, a perfect transition between the sad and the happy. Another chill fest up my spine.
To Die For/ King of Pride Rock~Lion King: Hans Zimmer
-I've always admired the African style music added in these scores, a very well made blend on Hans Zimmer's part. To Die for, always gives me chills, no matter what, its just such a suspenseful and desperate piece and then it descends into loss, definitely one of the most climatic parts of the film, but we all know the final scene, the final confrontation, and this is just so well done, I think something that gives this score more umph than others is the use of the drums in the background, especially during the battle where it makes your heart pound. And of course, as always, this score has more than just intensity, but it also delves into that sort of strange lull after something extreme just happened, almost a sad tune that it had to come to this, but then we get the rising up as simba transcends pride rock to take his place, and I think everyone will remember that, then we add with the final scene, one of victory and joy. Amazing piece of work.
