User Name: LilyHermioneChapman
Teacher Name: Pamela Kassandra Isom
House: Hufflepuff
Year: First year teacher
Age: 29
Description: User Image
Blood: Half
Wand: 10 inch Hickory with Dragon Scale core.

History: Pam has known nothing but a hard life, ever since she was a baby. She was the youngest of 10 kids, and by the time she came along, her parents were worn out, and broke. Just because she came from a large family however, doesn't mean that they were loving. In fact, the only thing her parents did together was have babies. It only stopped at Pamela because her mother couldn't have any more. At this point, her father filed for divorce, and neither of the children saw him again. Their mother also took up heavy drinking and drugs until she finally killed herself when Pam was 3. Pam spent the rest of her life being raised by her older siblings, and in fact, she doesn't really even remember her mother too much.

Although Pamela's siblings all pitched in to raise the younger kids, they were ill fit parents. Her older sisters tried to make something to eat, but she was raised off of Macaroni and Ramen while her sisters went out with their boyfriends, and to their parties. Her brothers were in charge of discipline, and whenever Pam got into trouble she would get spanked and locked in her room. Often it was to hard a spanking since the boys didn't know what they were doing, and when they locked her in her room, they would always forget about her and she would be in her room for hours on end.

Pam was glad to finally be able to go to Hogwarts. It got her away from the situation at home, and she got to learn magic. She quickly learned that she didn't have the brains for it though. Pam had never been terribly smart, and only exelled in History of Magic. She loved to read about the past, but Pam knew there wasn't much she could do with a History specialty. She got through school as just a normal child, never holding any sort of position. After Hogwarts she got a job at a shop in Diagon Alley where she worked hard until she got a small place of her own. This summer however, she saw that Hogwarts needed a History Professor, and she jumped at it. She had always found her job boring, and wanted to go back to Hogwarts. Here was her opportunity.

Personality: Pamela is more reserved and quiet. She's not very talkative, but she's a wonderful listener. She also makes a very loyal friend because she knows what it's like to hurt. Pam is also willing to help students in any way she can, and she would give the shirt off her back to a perfect stranger if they were in need of it. She doesn't have much as far as worldly possessions go, but she's never really needed them.

As a teacher is is gentle and fair. She's done the training, but this is her first year as a teacher, and she's not entirely sure she's cut out for it because she really doesn't like loud people. She's always willing to put her best foot forward however, and this is just another challenge that she hopes to be able to over come. She's really glad that the Headmistress is so kind since during her interview for the job, Pam was shaking from both excitement and nerves.

Pet: None
Position: 1st year History Professor
Other: Pamela secretly pretends she's a princess as she struggles to get through day to day. She has a very active imagination, but she keeps it under lock and key.

Classroom Rules

Come Prepared:
I can't teach a class that doesn't come prepared with at least their books and homework. It's up to you whether you take notes or not, but we will read from the text every day. You all have a book, and I expect you to bring it. If you don't have it and you are asked to read, I will have to take off house points. If it becomes a serious problem, I will have no choice but to take off house points.

Participation:

Participation is crucial in this class. Every day you will get 10 attendance points, and 5 of those will be participation. If you don't participate, you lose those 5 points, and they can't be made up.

Talking:
I ask you to not talk while I am talking. I understand that in this class that is going to be most of the time, but I will do my best to give you some time to work and talk together. We have group projects often in this class, and I will give you as much class time to work on them as possible. This is when it is appropriate to talk. Other times it is just rude and I will have to take house points. If it becomes a serious problem, I will have no choice but to start giving out detentions.

Passing Notes:
Notes don't look good, and they are distracting, so I will ask that you don't pass them in my class. If I catch people passing notes I will confiscate it, and take house points. If it becomes a serious problem, I will have no choice but to give out detentions.

Magic:
In this class you will not need your wands, so I will ask that they do not come out. This is a wand free classroom, and if I catch them in here, I will have to confiscate them and you will have to see your Head of House to get them back.

Fighting:
Fighting is not permitted in my classroom, and will get you an automatic detention, and loss of 25 house points. That may seem like a lot of house points, but I really don't like fighting. You'll also notice that the first offense leads to detention. That's how serious I am about this.

Homework and Tests:
Mostly homework will be reading the chapter so that we can talk about it in class the next day. If students don't read the chapter, I will have no choice but to start assigning writing assignments with each, and if this happens they will be taken for a grade. If homework is not turned in the day it's due, you will automatically lose 50% of your grade for that piece.

Tests are a serious part of your grade in my class and will be given out biweekly. They will be made up of a mixture of true and false, multiple choice, short answer, and essay, so there is no just getting by.

Tutoring
I run by an open door policy. If you come to my office and the door is open, I am available to help you. All you need to is is ask and I will help however I can. I can't read your mind though, and I won't do the work for you, so you must be able to tell me how I can help.

Detention:

I don't like giving out detention, but I will if I have to. If I give you detention I expect you to show up to my office, or I'll go to your Head of House. When I give out detention, it is serious, and I don't play games.

Tardies and Absences:
The only way you can pass my class is if you are in it, and on time. I give out 10 attendance points each day. 5 are for participation, but the other 5 are for being in class. If you are tardy, you automatically get those 5 off, and all that's left are your participation. If you are absent you lose all 10. You will also get detention for absences, and lose 10 house points. The only way to excuse an absent or tardy is to have a note from a Professor, or the matron explaining that you were with them.

Beginning History: 1st years

Since this class has students that know everything about Magic, as well as students that just found out that magic exists 3 months ago, we will be starting on the basics. Older students will be asked to help out here and there, and it will pretty much be one of the easier classes offered. All students have to do is participate in class, and the projects, and read the chapters. This entire year we will cover the founding of Hogwarts, the separation of Magic and Muggles, and some well known pieces of magical history.

Elementary History: 2nd Years

This is where things start getting a bit more complicated. Participation and reading is still required, but there are also more projects. More material is covered, and we'll hopefully stop boring the pure blood students. Here is where we start breaking things down for you as we concentrate early history while time was still B.C.

Intermediate History: 3rd Years

Third years step it up a little. Participation is still crucial, but reading becomes even more important since there are essays assigned after every exam. It's just small essays, but they are still worth points. This year is covering more middle time history when the time switched to A.D.

Advanced History: 4th Years

Pop quizzes start appearing, and the 1 foot essay after each exam starts becoming a 2 foot essay. Participation and reading are still critical, but there are also more complicated projects that we start doing. 4th years will study magical history of the past 1000 years.

O.W.L. History: 5th Years
Pop quizzes become more common, exams become more strenuous, and 1 foot essays are required each week. Participation and reading are still critical, but there is a lot more piling on as well. This year our main focus is on famous wizards such as Merlin, Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and many others.

N.E.W.T. History: 6th - 7th years
This is the two years that you really have to step up your game. Reading is absolutely critical since on top of participation, you have quizzes each day. Exams are also much longer than in years past, and a 3 foot essay is due every Monday. These two years we will cover the past material more in depth as things get much more serious and we prepare to send you towards your N.E.W.T.s.

Grading Scale

My grading scale, is very strait forward and basic. As you have already seen, attendance, participation, and exams. Those will be the 3 components to your grade in my class, and unfortunately I don't offer extra credit. If you can't do the work I give out, I see no reason to give out more. Late homework is automatically 50% off. If you are failing my class and you are a 5th year or below, I will do what I can to get you caught up and passing. If you are a 6th or 7th year and are failing my class, you need to speak with me. If you are actually interested in raising your grade I will help you however I can, but if you really don't care I will drop you from my roll. You will find my grading system below, and keep in mind that part of participation is being prepared for class.

Getting into my class is quite simple and painless. To apply for my class, take the form below, and put it in a fresh owl. This has all of the information I need to register you for my class. Make sure to write in complete sentences, and give me as much information as you think I can use to get a firmer grip on what you know and so forth. From there, entitle your letter "Application for History" and send it to my secretary LilyHermioneChapman. I will then look over your application and send an owl back to you saying if you have been denied or accepted. If you are denied, you can reapply by figuring out what you did wrong, fixing it, and sending in a new application, in a new owl.

Dear Professor Isom,

My name is ____________, (I want your first and last name, as well as your middle initial) and I am a ____ year in the house of _____________. I wish to take History because ____________________________________________________. (If you say that it is a required class I will deny you. This should be a few sentences explaining why you are interested in the class, and not just a few words). So far in my History research I have learned (Once again should be a few sentences instead of a few words. Tell me what you have learned). ____________________________________________________. I really like __________________________________________, but I don't like ________________________________________. (Make sure to keep it course related). I have read and understand your rules and expectations, and promise to adhere to them. I understand what it means to be prepared, and will do my best to succeed, and learn as much as I can in the upcoming school year. I also understand that participation and attendance are critical, and tardies are not tolerated.

Sincerely,

The names below are the names that I recognize as my students. If your name is not here, then you do not belong in my class, and if I see you, I will report you to my secretary LilyHermioneChapman, and you will be placed in detention. To get your name to appear here you must have sent me a proper application, and had it approved. If your name should appear here, but it does not, kindly send me an owl and I will fix it as soon as I can.

Alex walked into History with a small sigh. This was just 7th years, and she wasn't sure what exactly to think. It was good in one way because the Professor wasn't bouncing between the two years trying to help both, and it got rid of the annoying 16 year olds so that the 17 year olds could get down to business and weren't being held back. At the same time however, it made the classes smaller, and friends were gone. Alex had come last year thinking it would be strange and crowded mixing with the 7th years and she wasn't sure she would like it. Now however she had been at it for a year, and honestly loved having both years. It made things more entertaining. It also gave you more of a variety to work with other than the ones in your year that you've worked with your entire time at Hogwarts. Alex slid into a seat in the back with a sigh and lowered her head. It was also times like this that she thought the most about Jessica. Jessica had been in her year, and with her all through Hogwarts. The pain of losing her was still extremely sharp. Especially at times like this.

Colt Shevington

Colt arrived at Professor Isom's classroom about eight minutes after leaving the greenhouses, but he stood outside it for a moment, contemplating whether this would be a good move or not. Sam's words suddenly echoed in his head, and with a silent growl of anger, Colt turned the doorknob and walked into the classroom. He saw Professor Isom at the head of the class, staring at him in astonishment, but Colt merely said, "Sorry, professor, important business." Turning to Alex, who was seated towards the middle of the room, he said, "Oi, Lasil, how would you like to go out with me sometime?" Colt knew he was about to get shot down, but who had the better spine now? Not only had he walked out of his class, he had also burst into the middle of another professor's lecture and had now finally asked the girl he'd had his eyes on for the longest time to be his. He had won; he had beat Sam to asking that Brechkovsky girl out.

Callisto closed the book as the woman touched the pages but didn't feel anything. It seemed more like the books were manifesting or conjuring something. Most books these days were just research documents or stories, and rarely did they have much magic. People with high magical abilities could create such illusions, but it was almost unheard of for a book to do it by itself. They don't just have magical items... They must all have magic, or whatever their equivalent of it was, the girl mused to herself, feeling a bit closer to unraveling the mystery that three of them now shared. "Yeah. Everyone could use a tasty meal, and it might feel like chicken soup." The idea that a hot comforting meal could soothe the soul was not entirely lost on the girl, despite her not needing to eat. With the conversation derailed by the appearance of Lucy, the girl's look to Natalie and then Honoria seemed to be fine with odd appearances, realizing she had also not noted any reaction to her small size and ears. "Father should be upstairs. I sent Ivy and Lucian up to him when I got here. If you missed him, he's probably sitting on the floor in the back room keeping them occupied and preventing them from waking you." The girl stood up and motioned to Honoria, "This is Honoria, she'll be studying here for a while." Opting to keep the details and story short as not to give someone else's troubles out to a stranger. "I'll go get him and get food ready for a little monsters." She turned and bowed her head to the two women at the table, "I hope to see you both in a bit", her final words before heading to the back stairs that lead to the family home upstairs.

~Pamela Isom~

Pam's first period had been a bunch of 3rd years, and she was pleased to see it had gone over quite well. She hadn't assigned homework, she hadn't been forced to take house points, and she hadn't been forced to give out detentions. Things had gone quite smoothly all of first period. Then had come her 7th years, and her anticipation had risen greatly. Her 7th years were probably going to be her worst class. One year to graduation, and wanting to just be done. To top it all off she was a brand new Professor, and the last thing the students wanted to deal with. Some new Professor telling them what to do when they were the 7th year Seniors. It had gone quite smoothly however. Pam hadn't had to so much as raise her voice, and her nerves were slowly disappearing. Half way through the period however, the dung swung open. Pam immediately looked towards it, not sure what to think. When she saw a student, her first thought was that something had gone wrong, and he had a note. She took one step forward to see what was going on, but then he apologized, said he had important business, and turned to a blond Slytherin in the middle of the room. When the boy asked the blond out, Pam couldn't help the jaw drop. He was taking her time to ask someone on a date? She let her eyes sweep over once more and saw that he wore a Prefect badge. With a sigh she pursed her lips together and looked at the boy. She forced herself to think stern. Before she could say a word however, the blond spoke up and told him to go jump in a fish bowl. Pam had to stifle a laugh at this response, and once again force herself to think stern. She had learned that the girl was Alexandria Lasil, but went by Alex. The girl had called him Shevington, so Pam guessed that was his last name. "Mister Shevington, I can assure you that I encourage students to figure out who they are, and date around. I even encourage mixing houses. I do not encourage it to happen on my time however. I believe you are supposed to be with the other 6th years in Herbology. If you are not taking Herbology then you are supposed to be using this time to study or what not. You are not supposed to be showing up in another classroom, asking girls out, and distracting them from their work. I'm going to have to take 5 points from Gryffindor, and ask to see you in detention for disrupting my class like this when you should know better. Normally I would send you to either Professor Blackburn or Wixom, but I believe I'll be lenient this time if you leave my classroom now. Miss Lasil, one of my rules is respect, and I expect you to follow that at all times. What you said to Mister Shevington was uncalled for. To be fair, I will have to take 5 points from Slytherin and ask to see you in detention as well. Now I want you to apologize to Mr. Shevington immediately, and then Mister Shevington, I want you to leave my class until I see you for 6th years." Pam couldn't help but wonder if she was being slightly harsh. It was the first day of school afterall, but these were 6th and 7th years. Shevington was a Prefect. They should both know better.

Colt Shevington

Colt felt an unexpected stab whenever Alex rejected him so rudely; he had known that the girl wouldn't accept, but it still hurt to have her answer him so harshly. He wanted to apologize for Sam whenever Alex mentioned him, but he was unable to because Professor Isom had cut in and was reprimanding him for barging into her class and interrupting. Colt was suddenly frightened of the woman sending him to Brocksby and Wixom, knowing that he could very well lose his Prefect badge if sent to either of them, but to his great relief, he only got a warning and another detention. He wasn't setting a really good example as a Prefect, getting a detention two classes in a row, but he'd take detentions over dismissal of his charge any day. When Professor Isom turned to Alex and began scolding her for her comment toward Colt and asked her to apologize, Colt interrupted and said, "That won't be necessary, Professor Isom; Alex doesn't have to apologize to me. I'm very sorry to have interrupted your class like this, and I'm sorry to have embarrassed you like that, Alex. I'll see you later in class, professor, and again, my apologies." Colt bowed his head in apology to Professor Isom before walking out of her classroom and heading back to the greenhouses, taking one slow step at a time.

Alex couldn't help but smile in satisfaction when Colt lost house points and got detention. He deserved it as far as she cared. When Professor Isom then turned to her however, Alex couldn't help but gape in shock and protest. She was losing house points and getting detention? She hadn't even done anything but tell Shevington to shove off. He was the idiot that had come barging in here like a lunatic. Her lips pursed as she glared at Professor Isom. This woman had called this fair? On what planet was this fair? To top it off she was being told to apologize. She switched her glare from Isom to Colt. "Sorry Shevington." She spit out bitterly before facing forward and glaring down at her desk.

Pam heard Alex's bitter and meaningless apology and sighed. What was she supposed to do now? She was really wishing she wasn't a spineless jelly fish right now. That wasn't something a teacher needed to be. A teacher had to be firm, and firm wasn't something Pam was. Not in the slightest. She was glad to see that at least the boy obeyed her. He even responded politely. Taking a deep breath Pam spoke again. "Miss Lasil, in the future I will expect you to do as I ask without complaint. As such, you will write me a 1 foot essay on obedience, and hand it in to me first thing in the morning." With that the bell rang, and Pam dismissed her class telling them there was no homework besides reading the first 2 chapters of the text, and being prepared to discuss them tomorrow. With a deep breath Pam sat in her chair and watched her 7th years start filing out as she waited for her 5th years.
