Blake sat quietly in a small clearing in the woods, looking up at the sky. It was that quaint twilight hour where the sun was setting and everything had an eerie sort of light to it. An old, dingy skateboard sat nearby, a sort of...security blanket for the odd addict. He was waiting for the dark, and the stars, and the mysteries of the night to unfold.

User ImageDeimos crept through the shadows, not exactly hiding as well as he'd like. The cobweb pattern of his fur made it difficult to completely hide in the darkness. They shone out like a lighthouse in a fog. Made it difficult for him to hunt. So his diet mostly consisted of fruits. Berries. Vegetables. He had become skilled at digging up roots. At sniffing out fallen fruit on the ground.

The male Hollow inched closer to his prey, a little mouse digging around the dirt with tiny claws. He moved a few inches closer. The mouse perked its ears. He stopped. The mouse's huge ears twitched a few times before becoming still, again. Deimos raised himself up a little on his feet, prepared to jump and smother the rodent between his huge front paws. However, just as he was preparing to spring, the mouse sat back up, turned around, and took off at the sight of the glowing webs of his chest. Deimos sighed and walked out into the clearing.

This was worse in the winter, when the pure white snow worked against his dark fur.

His thoughts filled his mind. He didn't see the gray Hollow in the grass until he almost walked into his backside. Stopping short a few inches away from the other, he shook his head to clear his thoughts, the force of his quick stop sending a little breeze towards the other.

Blake felt the cool breeze of the other Hallow behind him and paused in his thoughts. He then turned, slowly, to face the visitor to his quiet world. He was an interesting one, looking to be covered in...spiderwebs? Blake smiled a bit, finding a tad bit of personal irony in the situation before saying anything to his visitor.
"Hey. 'Sup?" Blake had always been a man of few words...

Deimos straightened up, flicking his tail from side to side once. An Addict covered in patches. He had heard of Addicts. Strange creatures that had once been a Hollow like he, but were changed due to an obsession. Glancing over at the skateboard, he took an obvious guess.

Sitting back with his tail curled around one hip, he cocked his head slightly. "Hello," he said simply. "Getting a bit late to be out here. What are you doing?"

Blake watched the Hallow's eyes flit to his skateboard, but payed it no mind. It didn't bother him that he was addicted to his board...that he was addicted at all. And as his new...companion didn't bring it up, neither would he.
"I'm waiting for the stars. I like to look up at them, pick out the constellations. They're pretty sweet." He took a small look back up to the sky. No sparkles yet, not even a tiny one. He looked back at Deimos, "Of course, the same could be asked of you dude."

Deimos glanced up at the sky, starting to darken more since his trip out of the woods just a few moments ago. Yes, the stars. A curious thing, they were. Much like his coloring, a dark base with a pattern that stood out among the shadows. He looked back to the other creature, chuckling a bit at his last comment.

"Sweet, am I?" he asked, not a seriously curious question, as he thought he knew the answer. Looking at other Hollows and Addicts, he knew his coloring was somewhat different from theirs. Where theirs looked normal, his looked more real than a coloration of his fur. Like he had walked through a few cobwebs. It wasn't too uncommon for people to ask if he had stumbled into a cave or spider den.

Blake truly had not been thinking about it, but the hallow before him did look pretty sweet. The light of the webbing on the black of his coat was...different. It was almost spooky, and Blake liked that. He looked down at the only stitching of his he could see on his front leg and wondered if, since his were real, this Hallow's webs were too.
Nothing ventured nothing gained, "Are those real webs?"

This question didn't catch Deimos off guard in the slightest. Though it wasn't a subject he liked to talk about willingly, he did get asked it quite a bit. True, the webs did look real. And, he had to admit, it was strange how they connected together so well instead of having breaks in the thread like one would assume as the fur changed direction. But they didn't. They never did. Not even in the morning, after his tossing and turning in his sleep. At least the spider on one hindquarter didn't look real, he was glad of. He was a little skittish about spiders. Sometimes he couldn't even look at his own.

"Yeah, uh..." The male looked down at his right paw, which had three strands of webs trailing over the top. "Something like that." Glancing back up at the other Hollow, Deimos put his paw back on the ground. "What about you? Are those real stitches?" Partly because he was curious, partly to draw attention away from the story behind his odd coloration.

Blake nodded, "They come lose sometimes...and they're not watertight, but they keep me in one piece...." He shrugged. He'd always been that way, and his stitching never bothered him. 100% Recycled materials, that's what he always told himself and even in the darkest times it lightened his mood.
"Guess that makes us a couple of oddballs then huh?" He smiled.

Ignoring the fact he was trying to change the subject from himself, Deimos cocked his head to the other side. "So, they're not stitched over your fur?" He couldn't imagine what that would be like. If it was him, he would be constantly worried about the sensitive muscle below the skin being exposed. And would be obsessed with constantly checking how strong the stitching was. Which would also require a needle and thread going through your normal skin. Without flinching once to show where his thoughts were, Deimos drove them out of his head.

"Yeah," he replied with a smile. "Guess it does. Makes us more special aside from just being a color."

Blake shook his head, "Nope, they're their own pieces." He shrugged, not caring too much about that fact. He'd known the sewing and needle for so long that he barely recognized the pain when things came lose and he had to fix himself back up.
"Special's good, it add spice to life y'know?"

This time the wolf cringed openly. Just the fact that his thoughts were true was enough to give him the shivers. "Wouldn't want to experience that," he commented out loud. "So it's like actual skin, covering what's beneath?" If one was to judge solely on his appearance, one would be surprised that Deimos found this creepy at all. But a book should never be judged by the cover. Deimos was a good example.

"Oh, of course. You can't have everything black and white. Still don't see others like us very often. You were born like that?"

Blake chuckled a bit, fortunately he was rather used to this sort of reaction.
"More or less," he replied, "and I really dunno if I was born this way...I don't remember being any younger than this."
Sad as it was Blake was fortunate he didn't recall his past. It gave him less to dwell on and left room for the future and other things within his mind.
"But's it's cool," he finished, not wanting to make anyone feel sorry for him, "I take what I get in life and I'm glad just to be here."
