((This is Colon's world that he lives in while laying unconscious in the hospital bed. It won't be very long, however I thought it should be separate from the hospital so not to interrupt the story line there.
I thought this would be a great way to pratice my writing and to let people learn a little more about Colon. I hope it's not too painful to read! xp ))

The moment Colon's head hit the pavement he was thrown into the darkness of his thoughts. Everything that had happened just moments ago now seemed like years.

The ground that he laid flat on was of cold hard dirt. He pushed himself up off the ground and sat there on his knees looking around in hope that he would recognize the place where he was so gracefully tossed.

He found himself in awe as he slowly admired the dazzling garden that was laid out before him. He could tell that it was much later in the day, for the sky was of an orange and vanilla hue. He glanced up and there hovering over him were branches that...seemed to be reaching towards the heavens.

He followed the branches down towards the trunk with his eyes, and followed the trunk to the dirt and grass that held it there lovingly. Not getting up he simply crawled towards base of the tree and sat with his back propped up against the bark. He closed his eyes, and fell asleep, or so it felt like sleep, though he knew that it was only a dream.

He woke to the sound of a brown sparrow singing its evening song in the branches above him. He knew that he had been asleep for at least an hour or two; however he doubted himself when he saw that there was no sign of change in the garden. The sky was still of the same creamy color that it was before he closed his tired eyes.

Perhaps time had stopped; he thought as he pulled himself up on his feet, perhaps he would be stuck in this garden for the rest of his days. The only difference that he noticed was a path that he had sworn was not there when he had first arrived was now laid out before him.

He glanced around for any other paths that may have formed while he was asleep, and felt a twinge of sadness when he realized there was none. However his self-pity was interrupted by the sudden flutter of wings above him. It was the same brown sparrow that had awoken him seconds ago. It was now sitting before him on the path looking up into his eyes. It then lifted it's self up off the ground and headed towards the direction of the path.

Colon watched as the bird left his side. He stood there wondering what his next move should be, to follow his little friend, or to continue waiting at the tree. It suddenly dawned on him that waiting could take a life time and the little bird seemed to be the only other living creature in the garden. Without another hesitation he decided to follow his little companion, and see where the dirt path would lead.

He keeps a steady pace, trying his best to keep up with the little sparrow that seems to stay just feet ahead of him. They pass through woods and fields, the tree had long since vanished from sight. As he continued to follow the bird he looked around for any other sign of life. However he neither saw nor heard one, in fact, he realized that the only sound he heard was the steady thumping of his own two feet pounding into the hard dirt.

He was considering stopping and turning around to go back and find the tree. However, the little bird stopped, as though it had overheard these thoughts. Then, without warning, a warm whisper of air wrapped around Colon's whole body, as though telling him a secret that only himself and the wind knew.

He looked around for the little bird who was nowhere to be seen. Then, as though someone had taken a bucket of water and splashed it down all around him, the trees, the path, and everything else he could see, began to melt away.

All had gone black around him, he could hear them calling his name as he layed there on the church floor. He could hear the cheerful laughing of Father Connelly as he watched Colon slowly die.
