Roleplay name: You Live To Break Me
Characters: America and England
Time: The end of the Revoluntionary War.
Brief Summary: It's over. The bloody war that caused such an uproar with England and its colony, America, finally ended. America, now a free nation, holds a small pang of regret as he looks down at England, who is on his knees, crying, asking how this happened, why this happened. Both didn't care that their military uniforms were now stained with mud and rain.
England was ordered to stay with America for a while, the queen has important business to do. Both America and England are outraged, England felt betrayed, America felt confused.
Still, this would only be for a while, it wasn't permanent, but both still find it awkward to look at each other in the eye now..
America is struggling with the mixed feelings he had of England, while the other is very much in awe with the grown body of his 'little brother'.
This very well could cause another war, not between nations, but their personifications, and that might cause more damage than another bloody war.

It wasn't fair.
None of this, the dead soldiers, the bloodied battlefield, the soaking rain that made it all the more gloomy. Arthur knew life wasn't fair, years of experience and work that showed on his calloused hands and scarred skin, though these were things he kept hidden, the British Empire had no room to show weakness.
So why was he here, crying on his knees in the pouring rain? His former colony was standing tall in front of him, but were those tears forming in his eyes? Moments ago, England attempted to stab America with his musket, only to fail by his emotions, and a block from America's own weapon.
In attempt to hid his tears, England cover his face with his muddy hands, the tears converged with dirt, he looked like an absolute mess right now. He sobbed, they came out close to choking sounds, why couldn't he keep them in? Years of holding back tears for the sake of his queen, no, the sake of his country, he couldn't let them see him cry.
Well, most didn't even know he existed, a secret hidden from the humans.
"W-why?" his voice trembled, his voice came out close to a squeak, he pushed his hand aside as he attempted to stare up at the confident blue hues. Since when did he grow so tall? Since when did those soft, welcoming cerulean eyes acquire such a fierce, powerful glare? Time passed by much to quickly, it seemed as only yesterday that England was helping that little boy who could barely walk without tripping over himself. Arthur hated himself for not spending enough time with him, all those times he was to leave, those innocent eyes stared at him with pleads to stay. . .
He quickly shoved those thoughts out of his head, there was no room to think of that anymore; he lost. Not only did he lose a colony and a main source of taxes for the Queen of England, he lost his little America, and there was no getting him back.
What happened, England? You use to be so big.

It was over. It was finally over. All those years America had spent fighting his former master had finally come to a head moments ago on the battlefield. But now the war was over. And America had won. He was now an independent country.
England had tried to put in one last shot - an attempted stab with his musket. Somehow, Alfred had seen it coming, and blocked just in time. It left a deep gash in the wood of his own rifle.
And now England was on the ground before him, soil and blood covering his uniform. He looked horrible. Defeated. If it hadn't been raining, America could have sworn he saw tears on Arthur's face.
He should have felt estatic. He should have been celebrating with the rest of his army - the great Queen had finally been overthrown. But staring down at the man on his knees, all he could feel was an overwhelming sadness. It wasn't just England. It was Arthur. The man who had took him in. The man who had taught him almost everything he knew. The man who had raised him.
America closed his eyes for a second. But it wasn't just Arthur either. Arthur was the embodiment of the British Empire. Just as he was the embodiment of America. It was up to him to do what was right for his people. And this had been right. Wasn't it?
"England..." Alfred breathed out, almost a whisper.

No, that wasn't his name, his name was Arthur. Looking up from his spot on his knees, he glared at Alfred in anger, his hands balled up into fists as he held them by his sides.
"You, you . . Y-you bloody gi-- . . ." was all he managed to say, at first he thought about yelling America's head off, but the words wouldn't come out. He couldn't bring himself to speak, the yelling he had done to his troops was making his throat dry. He shook his head in shock, he still couldn't believe he lost. Right now, all he wanted to do was collapse on his side and fall asleep, his body wasn't going to be able to hold him up for long.
With a sigh, Arthur allowed himself to fall, he landed on his side, not caring that his uniform was now dirtier than before. His eyes began to close, the small streak of blood that trickled down his lips was dried by now, his hair was caked with mud. He decided to ask the one thing he thought Alfred would be able to complete for him, it wouldn't be very hard.
"I want to go home." his pride was hurt, but his heart ached even more than the wounds on his body.

Alfred looked down at the man on the ground before him. He truly felt sorry for him. But he didn't want to look weak in front of his fellow armymen. Or in front of Arthur.
Inside he wanted to pick Arthur up off the ground, treat his wounds, and tell him that everything was going to be okay. Just like he did for me... But Alfred couldn't do it. And Arthur couldn't know he wanted to do it. Otherwise, the entire Revolution would go to waste. England would fight America again, and who knows what would happen that time? He had to show England and his own country that if there was another war - he would win. He would always win.
Painfully tearing his eyes away from Arthur's crumpled form, Alfred turned his back and faced his army. "Let him go." he said, as he began to walk away.
Rather than follow his lead, a few officers stepped forward and grabbed Arthur's arms, hauling him up and seizing him.
Alfred turned around. "I said let him go." he said louder this time.
"I'm sorry, Sir, but we can't do that. We have orders to keep him here until his Queen can collect him." One of his generals replied.
America's jaw almost dropped. Wait. Keep him here? No doubt it was his boss who ordered England to be kept captive. But who did he expect to watch him? Surely not....

The Queen . . ! God forbid anything has happened to her. . he thought to himself, but refused to open his eyes. The rain continued to pelt down, it washed away some of the mud and dirt covering his face, yet it couldn't erase the guilty, anger.
After a while of being dragged, he opened his eyes and growled, his uniform was getting muddier by the second! Had they no curtsy to pick him up?!
"G - get me off this ground, you bloody git . . " me managed to say though his teeth, all he received was a jolt from his shoulder as one of the soldiers held him tighter.
"Silence, red coat."
The words stung worse than the rain, how he hated to be called that, it made him feel so . . Low. He stayed silent the rest of the way, wherever it was they were taking him. He didn't bother to ask again, the material of his pants was started to rip as the knees continued to drag on the rough ground, his knees stung as it scrapped against small rocks.
"D - damn you . . America." It wasn't like he necessarily meant it, he knew that he was far from hating Alfred, the boy he raised and loved. It was the nation he hated, surely they had something to do with convincing Alfred to go along with it, he would never . . ! That was all behind him, at the moment, the nations were at each others' necks, bitter enemies for what looked to be a long time. At the moment, all Arthur could do was follow instructions, and wait for his Queen to claim him back, whatever the reason it was for him to stay with America in the meanwhile.

Only an hour after the battle had ended (though it felt like ages), Alfred found himself pacing in front of his boss. "Keep him here?! Are you insane?! Don't you understand that he just lost to us?! Keeping him here might give him a chance to start planning a revolt!"
His boss sighed heavily, holding his arms out in a subtle attempt to calm Alfred down. "Who is to say that he wouldn't plan a revolt in his own country? Besides, Alfred, we have no choice."
"No choice? A hero always has a choice." , Alfred stopped pacing and looked at his boss.
"Really, Alfred, we'll talk about this some other time. I'm very busy at the moment. Do with him what you will, but do not send him home. I'm sure you'll be able to figure something out." With that, his boss left Alfred's office, leaving America standing alone in the middle of the room. He sighed heavily, rubbing his palms together.
A soft knock was heard on the door. "Sir? England has been secured downstairs." Oh. So they put him in the cellar, did they?
"Thank you.", he mumbled. There was no avoiding it now. He would have to speak with England.
---
Alfred stood in front of two guards who were blocking his way to the closed basement door. "Excuse me. I won't be needing your assistance for this. You're dismissed." The guards exchanged looks, but moved aside and left Alfred on his own.
Alfred unlocked the basement door and hesitantly stepped inside. He noticed that they hadn't bound Arthur at all. This was good. Even though England had just lost the war, Alfred didn't want Arthur to feel like a prisoner. There was a lantern in the room, but it wasn't lit. "Dark, isn't it?"Alfred said softly, moving to light the lantern.

The chains holding him back from any chances of escaping were finally gone. His wrists, red from the tight grip of the ropes, now ached momentarily, before Arthur focused on something else. Alfred. He heard those foot steps enter his cellar, he growled out of instincts, they were dealing with a wild animal.
That voice, coming from that mouth he fed and nourished, those lips he debated on kissing so many times, the boy that became a grown man in a blink of an eye. If only he had his eyes open the watch it happen. Arthur sat in a corner, his face was buried in his knees as he attempted to keep from the cold. His clothes, still soaking wet from the rain in the battlefield. His face, plastered and brittle with dried up mud, his fingers to cold and frail to peel it off.
"Dark as the bloody depths of that think they call a human soul." oh, course he was being grumpy and morbid about this, it was so English of him. As he hugged his knees closer to his chest, he hid his face from America as he went to bring light into the room.
"What the bloody hell do you want. . ?" Bloody this, bloody that, repeating it so often in his speech was starting to kill the whole affect. Still, he couldn't help it at the moment. He waited, lifting his head from his knees to finally face Alfred- No, America, the damned nation who wanted to be free, be a hero. You know what Arthur thought of that? Bullshit. This was the kid who had trouble tying his shoelaces not to long ago, for crying out loud. Still, he'd grown so much older since the last time Arthur really spent time with him, those afternoons while he was enjoying tea in the garden. Alfred running around in a cowboy suit, muttering something about becoming big and strong, and one day being big enough to protect England. To be his hero.
So where was he know? Standing in front of him, that serious facade was starting to annoy the hell out of Arthur. There wasn't much he could do, endure it, it would all be over soon. He would have his queen, his people to subdue the pain of his lost 'son'.
Of course, none of them would ever run up to him with a cowboy hat and belt with a play gun telling him that they will be his 'hero'.

Alfred succeded in lighting the lantern, and a dull glow filled the room. Arthur was in the far corner, dirt and rain still soiled his clothing. America briefly noted to have new clothes sent down eventually. He cautiously took a few steps forward. The dim light flickered onto Arthur's wrists, making the red marks a brighter color. "Do they hurt?"Alfred spoke, his voice quiet and slightly crackled. "I can send a doctor to look at them..."
Alfred began to wonder why he came down in the first place. This was so awkward. He should have just left England down here on his own and let the guards deal with him. But of course his heart wouldn't let him do that. The same heart that was currently pounding loudly in his ears.
He tried to stand up straighter, perhaps to seem a little more confident to the nation currently slumped on the floor. When did he get so small? Alfred took a deep breath, quietly sucking the air into his lungs so that Arthur couldn't hear. He looked at the floor directly by England's feet. "I tried to talk to my boss, but.....there was nothing I could do. I can't let you leave."

Arthur refused to make eye contact, he blinked and looked down at the question. "Of course they hurt. I've been through worse." As much as he wanted to have his wounds clean, Arthur refused to take up and offer from Alfred "No."
After a few moments, Arthur sighed, and looked up. He gave Alfred a pained look, wanting to make the American suffer.
"Why did you come her Al - . . " He no longer had the right to call him by his human name, the one he gave him. . ". . Why are you here, America. .?" he squeaked, eyes threatening to let out the tears Arthur thought he was dry out of.
". . And do you plan to keep me in this cellar until then?" Arthur hoped it would be a no, he could barely stand this place. It was filthy, cold, and definitely not some place he wanted to spend for possibly a couple of weeks.

"Why are you here, America?"
Alfred stared down at Arthur, his voice dead in his throat. How could he answer that question?
He honestly wasn't sure himself. This man before him was an enemy of his country. He had just fought a war against him, a war that he had just won. But he couldn't bring himself to hate the man. Artie....I've left you, but I haven't left you for good.
He was starting to get frustrated. Everything had turned out wrong. When did it all change?
"Maybe I should..." he croaked out, really to himself more than to England.

Arthur continued to stare, he attempted to burn a hole through that idiot's head. His words angered him even more, he didn't even sound confident! This was infuriating, something had to be done. ". . Don't even think about it." He growled, when did he grow to heartless?! This was not the boy he raised! Of course, he did fail at that part, he didn't pay him enough attention, he rarely saw him. . . Still, he wasn't going to take being stuck in a dirty cellar until his queen collected him. His pride won't allow him. Out of rage, Arthur jumped up and grabbed Alfred by his collar, pushing him back until he hit the wall. He let go of his grip by the collar, instead grabbing America's wrists and pinning him to the wall to prevent him from escaping. As tired as he was, Arthur still had some energy, not to mention strength left. As he panted loudly in anger and glared, Arthur tightened his grip on Alfred's wrists. His expression softened when his breathing went back to normal, he looked longingly, his expression full of anger, pain, confusion. He did the only thing he could think of at the moment, despite how stupid the action was. Something he'd wanted to do for a long time, but held back because Alfred was still only a child. A innocent, pure child . . Where had he gone?
Tilting his head to the side, he leaned in and nuzzled closer to Alfred's neck. Trailing his lips from his collar bone to his ear, Arthur whispered the same thing over and over again. "Why? Why, why, why . . ." Everything was going so well, why did Alfred have to ruin it?
As he pulled away to look Alfred in the eyes, Arthur' expression remained unmoved, cold and emotionless. Of course, on the inside, he wanted nothing more than to fall to his knees and to cry out, in hopes to be heard by someone who actually cared.

『ALFRED • F • JONES』 Something always takes the place Of missing pieces you can take and Put together even though you know There's something missing
==================================== Was Arthur…telling him what to do? Hadn’t he won here? Wasn’t he independent now? Was this not the reason he fought England in the first place?
Arthur snarled harsh words, and pinned him against the wall. But something in his eyes told a different story. He was never very good at hiding his emotions, was he? Alfred should have punched him in the nose. Thrown him to the ground, kicked his vital regions, and left him to rot in the cellar. The younger blonde contemplated it for a moment, until the Brit did something that shocked him completely.
He could feel Arthur’s breath in his ear, and his nose brush his neck. Suddenly, the temperature in the damp and dingy cellar seemed to raise at least 20 degrees. Alfred was frozen, still pinned to the brick wall. The feeling of water seeping into his back and Arthur’s voice in his ear made his mind fuzz over. I don’t know... I don’t know…
And then those sad eyes were staring at him again, betraying the expressionless face they were connected to. Please don’t look at me like that. I can’t bear it…
Suddenly, a loud bang resonated in the cellar and light flooded the doorway. A couple of guards barged in a grabbed Arthur, pulling him away from Alfred and forcing him onto the floor by his neck. “Hands off, you dirty Brit!” One shouted into Arthur’s ear. “Sir, is everything alright?” The other asked, helping keep the British nation down.
America stared at the scene before him, his pupils enlarged and jaw slack. Rage began to boil up inside of him. He took a few disoriented steps forward, his gaze plastered onto Arthur’s face. “You….” He grounded out, his voice low and menacing. His blue eyes lingered on Arthur before slowly moving up to pierce the guards in front of him. “How dare you disobey my orders? Did I not tell you that you were dismissed?” he growled. His tone began to gain timber.
Roughly, he threw the guards off of Arthur, firmly grabbing him by his forearm and jerking him closer. “I suggest you pack your belongings, gentlemen. Your service is no longer needed here.”
Without another word, America turned on his heel and strode out of the room. His grip on Arthur’s forearm had not ceased, and Alfred was all but dragging him to his private quarters. Once they reached his bedroom, Alfred threw Arthur into the room, and slammed the door shut. He let his forehead rest against the cool doorframe, and heaved a shaky sigh.

All of his attention was placed on Alfred, such delicate features, yet tainted by war and blood. His blue eyes still held tiniest fraction of innocence, his little Alfred was in there. The one who belonged to him, and only him. Somewhere. Arthur would find it. He wouldn't stop until he did. Lips still trailing along his collarbone in hopes for some reason from the boy. "Mine." He managed to whisper softly, before the cellar doors were opened. Arthur barely noticed as the soldiers entered and pulled him away from Alfred, slamming him into the floor by force. His jaw rattled, he hoped he wouldn't get a bruise. . . Not bothering to squirm, he laid still as Alfred spoke to his soldiers. As he was jolted upwards, Arthur made a slight sound of discomfort as his forearm was being pulled out of the musky cellar. Arthur wanted to ask what he was doing, but anywhere besides that cellar sounded like a good idea. Fatigue was beginning to take a toll on his, Arthur could feel his eyelids growing heavier by the moment.
Gentleman. . Had Arthur not taught Alfred to be a gentleman? Where had those lessons gone? The Brit was sure 'starting a war for independence' was not one of the things he taught Alfred.
As he was dragged to wherever it was the tall blond was taking him, Arthur began to get a grip on reality once again, now conscious to the fact that Alfred was taking him to a room. His room.
After practically being thrown in, Arthur rubbed his forearm, sore from the grip Alfred put on it. Arthur was about to say something about his rude behavior, but stopped as Alfred rested his head against the doorframe. The Brit remained silent for the moment, before summing up the courage to speak.
"Why did you bring me here?" His voice firm, stern, he regained his composer and no longer felt like lashing out. Yet. Then, flashes of what he did to Alfred while in the cellar returned to him, causing him to flush a light pink. Clearing his throat, Arthur began his question again, though this time, he stuttered. "Al - . . America, w - why did you. . " He didn't have it in him to ask. Hearing that sweet voice of his would probably be took much to bear. The voice which previously shouted orders for his defeat. Arthur didn't think he wanted to know.

I can't believe these tears were mine I prayed heaven today Would bring its hammer down on me And pound you out of my head I can't think with you in it
『ALFRED • F • JONES』 Something always takes the place Of missing pieces you can take and Put together even though you know There's something missing
====================================
The American sighed heavily, trying his best to make it as quiet as possible so that Arthur couldn't hear. More questions again. Why did he ask so many questions? Questions that he didn't have answers to.
Stepping away from the doorframe, he turned around, but didn't bother to actually look at Arthur. He kept his eyes plastered on the wall behind the British man. Maybe if he couldn’t see him, it wouldn't hurt as much.
"You can stay here tonight. I'll have someone bring you something to eat later and some fresh clothes. I'll be back to check on you in the morning." He turned, once again facing the door. He reached to grasp the doorknob, but his fingers hesitated. Say something....say something....
==================================== I dragged all that I owned Down a dirt road to find you My shoes worn out and used They can't take me much farther
I'll give them to you to keep away in a box
