Basic PSP Coloring Tutorial Note: I use psp version nine, I believe one or two of the tools used in this tutorial came out with version 8 so if you use something other then 8,9, or X then you won't have these tools
Okkies the lineart I am going to be using for this tutorial is located Here. You are free to use that lineart for THIS TUTORIAL ONLY! The lineart is copyright to Neshaka and I'm sure she would not like you stealing it.
Step 1 - Paste your picture into psp as a new image (ctrl-v) and create a new layer

And set the layer properties to Multiply

Step 2 - Select the background layer and use the magic wand tool to select the horse's body

Hold Shift and click an area to add it to your selection
Step 3 - Once the entire body of the horse is selected go back to your top layer and use the fill tool to fill in the selected area with a color of your choice. For this tutorial I used an off purple HINT: Set your fill tool's tolerance to 200

Step 4 - See those ugly white borders around your color?

This is easy to fix, simply select the paint brush tool, I usually set the hardness to 50 and the size to about 10, that can be adjusted to fit the lineart. Then simply, slowly, go over the ugly white lines with your paint brush, being careful to stay in the lines of course, and bam the ugly lines are gone!

Step 5 - Now for the shading, select the lighten/darken tool

We will be doing the shadows first, RIGHT CLICK the appropriate areas to add shadows, keep in mind your light source and the shape of the horse, don't worry if it looks a bit messy, we will fix that later

Step 6 - Now to add the higlights, some colorists like to ad highlights only where it is needed, I personally like to add highlights everwhere there isn't a shadow, it increases depth.

Step 7 - Now to clean up that shading a bit. Select your soften tool

And soften wherever you feel it is needed, for me that is everywhere ^^ I like to set my soften tool prefs to a hardness of 50 and a size of around 10, opacity of 100.

Step 8 - Now for the hair, repeat steps 2-7 on the hair, I don't use too much softening on the hair because it gives it more of a.... hairy feel. Notice the one prominant highlight I used.

Step 9 - Now all you have left is the horn and the eye and your done! And you have a fully funtional horse head ^^

Oooh, spiffeh, Apple! heart I learned about the lighten/darken tool. (Which I'd generally tended to stay away from, unno why.) *scuttles off to poke at attempting to use it*
We're allowed to do similar tuts, yeah? As I suppose the one I'm conjuring up in my head is a "How to Colour" but we obviously have different colouring styles... xd

*chuckles* Well, I rather like the ones I found online but have added the Jam to my ego search. ^.^ (Yes, I'll afford all artists credit, link to the site, and even pate their disclaimer saying that what I'm doing is allowed. xd )
So... Here it is, my first ever tutorial. (And it's only part one, as I didn't think tossing loads of info all at once at new users was a great idea. Part two is being worked on. As well as a "You and Your PSP - Learning Your Way Around" one that I now realise should have come before this one. >.O)

Anywho.... I think this guild was a lovely idea, Apple. ^.^ We can all learn from each other (I've even learned a few things from Photoshop tuts that've been posted. xd ) And still, as much as we learn, we keep our own styles and such. (BTW... That lighten/darken aspect is addicting. xd ESPESCIALLY when I'm too lazy to find the shades needed on my own. biggrin )
