Or, in Japanese, 日本語の映画 {nihongo no eiga}. 4laugh

the poll also meant to have a "I haven't seen any" option but alas that isn't there, so if you haven't seen any, apologies!

So, do we have any Japanese movie fans here? I, myself, am a big Japanese movie fan having only seen a few. :3 I want to watch more though so I thought I would make a thread dedicated to them. smile

A few of my favourite movies would have to be,

Moonchild;
Hide & Gackt in ONE movie? A must see. wink I really enjoyed this movie and could watch it over and over, even if it did make me cry more times than I can count on one hand!

Koizora;
This movie has quite a history. It first orginated as a short story written on someones mobile and ended up being posted on a Japanese mobile short story website. It ended up being really popular and they made a drama and a movie on it! I haven't seen the drama but I did watch the movie. Somewhat predictable but I did cry a lot. (I'm such a cry baby.)

Battle Royale;
A classic movie. mrgreen I really enjoyed this. I'm not usually into such, violent movies but they managed to pull it off. It's one of my favourites because even if it is very violent, it still manages to maintain a plot, somewhat. I like the whole psychology behind it too.

Spirited Away;
Do I even need to comment on this? wink It's by Hayao Miyazaki, a household name in Japan and possibly even here in the West. I love all his movies (Princess Monoke, My Neighbour Totoro, Howls Moving Castle!) but I love Spirited Away the most. smile

Now... over to you!

* Do you like Japanese movies?
* Which Japanese movies have you saw?
* Do you have any recommendations?
* What movies do you want to watch?

I tend to like anything with either Toshiro Mifune or Shintaro Katsu in it, although I think The Seven Samurai (Mifune) and the Zatoichi (Katsu) films are my hands-down favorites.

Hmm, I actually haven't seen barely any Japanese movies. I've seen a few Miyazaki films and an extremely strange horror movie that was on the scifi channel one day. xd I don't remember the name of the horror movie but it was where people walked into sealed off rooms, became extremely depressed, and killed themselves. It made no sense whatsoever and would have been comical if it wasn't depressing o_o;;

As for Miyazaki, I think that his films are... ok, but they're not nearly as good as everyone says they are. Then again my best friend is an otaku that thinks that Miyazaki is god, which might contribute to how I dislike his films lol.

I think I'd like to watch a few Japanese movies but I don't really know any ones in particular that I'd like to watch. o_o

I love love love Koizora! I didn't cry since I don't normally cry at romance movies, but it was really cute.

I also love Su-ki-da. Even though there is little dialogue throughout the film, the characters body language says more than any words could ever express. Some people get easily bored by this movie because there's barely any dialogue, but I love it because this movie shows that you don't need a lot of dialogue to make a good movie.

I've only seen old Godzilla films and the like, Spirited Away, and something called "Zebraman" that I saw on the Japanese channel. sweatdrop

...but I'd really like to experience much much more Japanese cinema!

Over the summer I think, I will watch some things. Aside from knowing I must watch Rashomon, I need your recommendations!

Hmm... I really liked Shimotsuma Monogatari (Official English Name:Kamikaze Girls), and Shinobi ~Heart under Blade~ was good for special effects.
For horror Chakushin Ari was also good.
