I am listening to: (The High Road, by Broken Bells)
I am currently: (Freaking out about hockey and a girly manga)

Ok so apperntly, according to my Spanish teacher, my Spanish class says, "What if..?" a lot. So this other Spanish teacher that was randomly in our class room brought up a saying, "If my grandmother were a bicycle she would have pretty handle bars." And now anytime one of us asks, "Well what if..?" our teacher says, "Well what if my grandmother were a bicycle?"
Have you heard of it? Is is a Spanish saying or.. what?

{I know this is suppose to be in spanish but I'm too lazy to translate it all...}

I am not familiar with too many Spanish sayings, but I have definitely not heard of «Si tu abuela fuera una bicicleta ¿cómo sería?» However, after googling this phrase I found this:
«"Si mi abuela tuviera ruedas sería un motocarro".

Esta frase se dice para criticar a alguien que está utilizando hipótesis fantasiosas o imposibles. He dado una vuelta por Google y he visto que hay más de una variante ese dicho: bicicleta, carro, etc. ¿Conocéis alguna de ellas? ¿Qué otras frases similares a la de la abuela existen en español?»

It basically is a variation of this phrase and is used to criticize someone who is using an impossible hypothesis or one that is fantasy or a dream.

Hope this helps.

It's not a Spanish saying, it's an American saying. It means not to waste your time on what ifs, because:

If my grandmother were a bicycle, she would have handlebars.

But she's not. So she doesn't. So why spend all this time worrying about how it would be if she were a bicycle? Worry about what things are, not how they could have been if the past had been different.
