Mine is "An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips" -Proverbs 24:26
PostPosted: Mon May 03, 2010 5:35 pm

I don't have one favorite verse, but here are some of my favorites. I apologize if they're too many.

James 4:17 NIV
Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.

Luke 6:37-38 NIV
"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

Daniel 3:16-18 NIV
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up."

Matthew 28:20 NIV
"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Romans 8:38-39 NIV
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Isaiah 41:13 NIV
For I am the LORD, your God,
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.

Romans 12:20-21 NIV
On the contrary:
"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Revelation 21:4 NIV
He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

Mark 5: 36 is probably my favorite.
Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, "Don't be afraid; just believe."

I have too many favourites to list, but here's one that I hold true in my heart:

"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see" Hebrews 11:1

2nd Corinthians chapter one, verses 3-7.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort. Who comforts us in all our troubles so we may comfort those in trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God...

Cant remember the rest. sweatdrop I repeated this verse over and over thesse last six months. I was going through extremely tough times with a blood disorder. Thank God I'm healed again! ^.^

John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."

Until this past week, it has been the only verse I have known for almost 10 years. It saved my life over and over again, just knowing that someone loved me enough to face death. When the whole world walked out, God still loved me ^_^

Great! I wanted a way to get my favorite verses out, somehow!

Here are a few of my favorites:

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is Christ Jesus"
-Romans 3:23-24

"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
-Romans 5:1

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life."
-John 3:16

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
-Philippians 4:13

"Let the words of my mouth and meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sigh, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer."
-Psalms 19:14

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
-Romans 6:23

"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities nor power, neither things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
-Romans 9:38-39

"That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
-Romans 10:9

"For by grace, you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God."
-Ephesians 2:8

Mine? Okay, my top ones are:

John 15:13
"Greater love has no other than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."

Proverbs 16:24
"Pleasent words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones."

Revelation 18:4-5
"Then I heard another voice from heaven say:
'Come out of her, my people, so that you will share not in her sins, so that you may not recieve any of her plagues; for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.' "

They've really helped me feel better and think more.

I don't have just one. I like the books of Machabees, but no particular verse.

I know this next one is a strange one to favourite...and long.

Quote:
But some will say, " You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder. Do you want to be shown you foolish fellow, that faith apart from works is barren? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar? You see that faith was active along with works, and faith was completed by works, and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness"; and he was called the friend of God. You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. And in the same way was not also Ra'hab the harlot justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so faith apart from works is dead.
The Letter of James 2:18-26

I had more, but I can't think of them right now.

Philippians 3:8:
"What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord."

It's hard for me to think on just ONE verse or brief passage. But 2 Corinthians 5:21 really exclaims the aim of the Gospel. Something I constantly need to be reminded of...

Quote:
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Jesus' death accomplishes peace between God and I. And it is what enables me to know him. Not prayer. Not even reading God's word. Both of those serve a great aim, the grace given in the Gospel.
