So, anyone up for swapping stories on evil religion people??? blaugh
I once had this teacher in yr 8, so when i was about 14, who made up pray 3 times a day on our knees... So, i have her for English, History, Geography, Religion and as our homeroom teacher (who marks to roll etc). So we pray in every class twice, i have her at least once, and at most 4 times a day.
Starting to get an idea about how blindly religous she was?
So we're studying medieval history and the subject of witchcraft is brought up. After hearing for an hour about how evil paganism is, i decide to give her a hard time.
In English, we have to do a book review and present it as a poster to the class. So, i decide to do "Luna: a novel", which is about a transgender guy coming out as a woman. An amazing book, well written, clever, funny and sooo sad... Anyway, My poster is all done, and looking pretty sweet with this gorgeous moth/butterfly image in the centre (it was kinda obvious i was queer even then... heart ) and guess what?
I wasn't allowed to do my presentation, i had to speak to the school chaplin, and while she had to give me the mark i deserved, which was an A, she wanted to fail me...

well I'm glad she was at least a good enough teacher to give you the grade you deserved.
I've had a few run ins with religious zealots. The worst one:
I went to lunch between classes and there was a really long line. This lady (I use the term losely) in front of me started talking to me, after about 10 min she asked what church I went to. I told her I didn't go to church. She then asked why. So I ansewered honestly that I was an athiest. She blew up. She cursed. She swore. She told me I eat puppies for breakfeast. The manager came out and asked her if everything was ok. She said that I had said something so offensive she dare not repeat it. The manager asked me to leave. I didn't really care to stay anyway so I left. She followed me and when I told her to stop she punched me, I blocked her punch and got in my car. she then stood behind my car and yelled at me till I said I was calling the cops if she didn't move. She moved.
The next day my car had "Atheist pigs go to hell" writen on the windshield

I think the worst I've ever gotten is someone telling me that my life must be so sad because I don't believe in God.
I prefer avoiding the subject of religion altogether, but sometimes people visit where I work right after church and feel they need to spread the Word.

I like talking about it because it's amazeing to me that people can belive in talking snakes and that the earth is 6000 years old and that Muhamad flew up to heaven on a horse. Ect. ect.
So I talk about it to people who want to talk with me.

Honestly, I guess I'm lucky because the worst I've had was having to deal with my parent's disappointment and getting "I feel sorry for you" remarks from people I barely know (like on the internet or at school).

people can be real backwards when it come to religion. And as usual the "most forgiving ones" aka christians are usually the ones with the most mouth but not all of them for sure some

Although, what's in the Bible and what Christians accept as canon is not always the same.

If you like reading about evil people who get away with stuff the old testament is awesome! the new testament is ok but it focuses to much on Jesus for me. Jesus is not nearly as much of an a** hole as his father... but he has his moments.

The New doesn't make sense in context, and Paul's ramblings make up most of it.

I went to a Catholic School!
And being an evolutionist doesn't mean you HAVE to be an atheist! I know lots of Christians who roll their eyes when someone starts preaching...
Another story: I got told when I was about 16 that I totally going to hell for being pro-choice. I said that abortion and euthinasia should be legally available, and was told I was going to hell even if i personally disagree with them both! My relpy was to tell her that she wasn't going to heaven... A very shocked silence followed... I just meant she wasn't going anywhere according to my beliefs... rolleyes

Wow. Story: I was hanging out with one of my best friends in a group of people she knew. Of course, everyone else was Catholic. It was Easter, so everyone was talking about what they where giving up or whatever. I was just sitting there, silent, until one of her friends asked me what i was giving up for it. When i told her I was an Athiest, she asked why. I told her that i don't beleive that a god of any kind could have created anything. She obviously took this offensively, and she started to scream about how i never gave god a chance to come into my life and fill it with goodness and holyness, and such. Some of the others tried to calm her down, but most just sat there and issued their own comments to me like, "God will send you to hell when you die." And, "You don't have a soul." I finally had to stand up and leave before i lost it. My friend followed me and tried to apologize for her friends, but now, almost everyday, she invites me to her church.
