This role-play is based off of a world I will be drawing, with major locations and country borders for reference. This world is set in the mid-dark ages technology level, yet that it is not set on Earth. Much territory is unclaimed, and the few kingdoms that exist are so loosely called so, that it is more like city states. Magic flows freely in this world, but it holds a terrible stigma.

500 years ago, the world was united behind a grand Emperor, named D'alistrad Ivinstatr. This Empire was at the foreground of new magical applications, the greatest being the ability to travel anywhere in the world. As the story goes, Emperor Ivinstar and the greatest mages of the land set their sights to another world - the Moon that circled the world, Revanei. A great gate was constructed at the heart of the world to bridge the gap between the two. But when they opened the portal, chaos was allowed to enter. Demons and undead poured through the gate, as well as magical beasts that seemed to be fighting against them. The new forces and creatures assisted the Emperor and his kin, but to no avail. In a last attempt to save the world, he closed the gate prematurely, turning anything far as the eye can see to ash, and ripping the mountains and hills away from the gate.

No one today pays any heed to this... myth as it is referred to, but some still say that it exists, and that with a few adjustments, it could repair the mistakes of the path and forge a new path forward between the two worlds. Others hunt for this gate to destroy any semblance of it, fearing that someone will open it to bring back more of the horrors of that day. For the little few... they are doing just that.

Over 500 years, the gate's location has been lost, never recovered from the accident that occurred.

Anyone who wants to join in, must fill out a character sheet as a post, before you post in the RP. The character sheet is below:

Name:
Gender:
Age:
Race: Races native to this world are Humans, Elves, Halflings, and Dwarves. If you came from the other world, you are allowed to be Gnomes, or half beast (your choice on animal). Be aware that they are looked upon with mistrust in most places.

Magic: If you can cast magic, you are restricted to one domain of magic for the starting point. Mostly limited knowledge since there are few societies that accept magic, let alone allow it to be taught. The domains are:

Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Time, Sight (divination and illusion), Soul (Manipulation of Life/Death, used for both healing and raising the undead), and Body (Augmenting mind, body and the limits that creatures are restricted to. Also referred to as spiritual magic. Most accepted).

Not all people are physically able to cast magic, so it's ok if your character cannot.

Appearance: Describe what you look like, and what you are dressed like.

Weapons
-on person:
-proficient with:

Skills: Please stick to what would make sense. Most people in the dark ages had very specialized skills, but many were not jack-of-all-trades types.

Languages Spoken: Very, VERY important. Limit to two languages in writing. You must specify if you can read and write and how well you can.

Most Common Languages for this area:

Emperor's Tounge (Old English)
Rassanid (Dwarves' Language)
Vian'anarei (Elven Language)

Restricted Languages: These languages either have a special requirement and rules to have it, or they are highly secretive.

The Trader's Writ (Latin): Those who know this language must be a traveling merchant, or one who is under the employ of larger trading organizations. To learn the language requires years of work as an apprentice to a merchant. Once he deems that you are trustworthy, and will truly continue the trade, then you are taught the language and writing.

As you progress in the game, more languages will be open for you to learn, and they will be updated here. If you have any ideas for other languages, PM me and I can add it.

She is also wearing a blouse with the arms ripped off, and a short leather vest that constricts her chest to make her as unattractive as possible. - Horrid Cooking
- Getting ripped off

Much of her life has been in hiding, so she doesn't do too well among other women. However along her travels, she has honed the skill of trading, that she is easily swept into the fold with other men of the trading world. A classic gambler, her successes make her hot headed, and her taste for Mead adds more fuel to the flames. There's nothing better than a drunken fist-fight, or soberly showing up a man, just because she wants to. (Think the pit fight in the new Sherlock Holmes movie, or an Irish pit fight)
Whenever she gets ripped off, or is being pulled in that way, she immediately changes her attitude until a deal is fair, or generally in her favor.

Character Background (History):

At birth, she was abandoned by her family, as a liability to their further existence on the road, running from the local Kingdom. She was left on the side of the road in the middle of a thunderstorm to perish from the heavy lighting strikes. She however survived the storm, and was found by a group of monks, who brought her, despite her looks, to be raised in the monestary. There she stayed for 12 years, learning the fighting and ways of the monks, but she left to find her Pagan roots. Along her travels she was taken in by a traveling merchant group, where she learned the trade of Blacksmithing and "making the deal". When she turned 18, she set out as her own self, becoming more wild, and more successful than before.

((For all those who are participating, this is the introduction to your character's entrance to the RP.))

It was that same dream again.

The air is drenched with the smell of pugnant brine, the sounds of a rough sea pounding some nearby shore. My body is limp, and sore, but I don't remember it being that way. As I rise, trying to see anything, my vision is still a bit blurred...

Was I crying? Was there something truly horrible going on?

I rub my eyes gently with the back of my hands, trying to gather enough strength to continue moving.

As my vision clears, I notice the shore being beaten down by huge waves taller than a house. Down the way is a large stone tower with a pyre, burning brightly atop it, a lone light beneath an aging sky - gray mixing into black clouds. Over the ocean, is a ray of blue light, pulling the clouds into a spinning funnel to the heavens. I try to walk toward the shore to get a better look, but the ground beneath me opens up, and begins to seperate. I try to grab hold of the ledge, but it's made of sand. I fall endlessly into the ground, rapidly meeting the thick red blood of the very world.

The sun was still below the horizon, when in a small tavern by the sea, a young woman was awoken by her nightmares. Sweat dripped down from her forehead, and coated her body in small beads absorbed by her wolf pelt blankets. The sounds of her heavy breathing slowed while she brought her hands to her face to wipe off the sweat. She removed the pelts from her body, only to slap them back around her.

The early winter air bit at her exposed skin on her face, hear ears flicking to keep themselves warm. She turned to the window above the nightstand, sniffling at the breeze leaking through the framing. The sea stretched out beyond the port, which she could make out under the lighting sky. Small ships with makeshift sails set out on their morning journeys up the coast.

Her lips curled up into a smile. She admired the perseverance of the local fishermen, leaving before the dawn fell upon the world.

The smile faded to a frown, knowing what she needed to do. She took some time to rekindle the fire she had started in the chimney the previous night. She moved into the adjacent room in her tavern suite. In the corner was a large bin, stale with water she neglected to bathe in the previous night. The coals underneath the bin were long since out. She hesitantly put her hand into the water, and ripped it out as soon as she did, cursing while trying to shake the water off; It was cold enough to freeze over.

She pulled out the coal tray from under the bathing bin and dumped them into the fire, replacing them with hotter ones using a long pair of tongs in the process. It took her about an hour to warm it up to the point that she could grit her teeth and bear it, at which point the sun had finally peeked out over the horizon, competing with distant clouds to get some sunlight into the room. She stripped off the wolf pelt blanket and hurried into the bath, feeling the coals' warmth on the bottom of the basin. She quickly scrubbed the grime from her body, and from her hair.

Steam began to rise from the basin, and she sunk into it, relaxing her muscles. She sighed, reflecting on the dream she had been rudely awoken by.

It had appeared to her for several months now, well before she reached Albert's Port, the small town she had just stopped in. Ever since her dream, she'd been trading along the coast, trying to find the tower of which she had seen so many times.

'Once I leave the Saber Coast, I should be able to have a better idea of that place,' she thought. Her head sunk under the water as she shook her hair off all over the room after coming back up. She took in a deep breath and jumped out of the basin, walking quickly to get to a cloth to dry off, goosebumps lining her body from the cooler air. She dressed in a fresh set of clothes, throwing the others in a pot, and filling it with water. She hung it over the stove so that the water would boil her clothes clean. At last when they were finished, she squeezed the dirty water out over the pot, and placed them on the mantle to dry.

Her hands moved to her hips and she let out a sigh of relief. Turning, she went over to the chest at the foot of her bed, and pulled out her boots and walking stick, lacing the boots on in a messy fashion. She slid the two daggers into her boots, concealing them from sight. She pulled her cloak about her, concealing her ears, and went downstairs.

The tavern was empty for the most part - she had been here for a few days, and it was the same for this time. She ordered some breakfast and brought it over to a corner table. Glancing at the parchment behind her she frowned once again. When she had arrived here, like in each town, she put up business requests for those who might recognize a certain tower. On each of the papers - one in each tavern, she drew the tower - an almost perfect likeness to the one in her dream, with the clouds and beach as accurate as the tower. Shivers ran down her spine at the likeness, and she checked the time and date of the meeting for the job. She looked out the window at the sun, which was now over the horizon, rising into the sky.

'I hope someone comes this time...' she thought wistfully. If her request was answered, they would be arriving around now.
