Dolls asked me to set up the roleplay so here I go! whee

User Image SETTING
The main setting is Earth but not Earth, meaning it takes place on Earth but history is slightly different. This is done to avoid having to deal with specific historical events or people (however things like general style of dress and all that will remain the same). It is set in a time similar to the Tudor period in England but specifically meant to be ambiguous.

There are two main houses (families) to this story: the house of Duke Richard Frances and the house of Earl Michael Clande. Both houses make money through overseas trading and both have large mansions in the country, each with over a hundred servants. Duke Richard has blood ties to the King through his wife, but the King has chosen to stay aloft of the situation.

User Image STORY
In a courtly scandal, Lady Mary Frances, a daughter of Duke Richard Frances and Duchess Katherine Frances has been found to be sleeping with a lesser noble to whom she claims to be in love. This lesser noble is the eldest son of Earl Michael Clande and Countess Elizabeth Clande, Earl Robert Clande. Duchess Katherine, being closely related to King Charles the VI, has sought his assistance on the matter but he has declined and told the families to work it out themselves.

Duke Richard then accused Earl Robert of deluding his daughter, courting her solely for her money and nobility. As a result Earl Robert fled the court and went to his family's country home to avoid any backlash until he can think of what to do. Unfortunately, he was deluding Lady Mary. She however cannot bring herself to believe this and has chased after him. Now Duke Richard thinks Earl Robert has kidnapped his daughter and is ready to start a war.

Both families are on edge and the air between them is full of tension, but they must still keep up appearances.

(The story is left pretty open so that people have more freedom.)

User Image CHARACTERS
Any of the characters mentioned in the story are available to be played. Basically the only thing planned out is their names and a bit of plot, you can feel free to make up their personality as you see fit as long as it fits into the story.

Gaia Username: Lady Sedia
Character Name(s): Earl Robert Clande
Age(s): 18
Appearance(s): Robert has very dark brown hair and eyes that are only slightly lighter. A respectable beard covers his face and he takes great care to make sure he keeps himself in shape. This care is shown in his tall, well muscled body and many woman enjoy flirting with him because of it. His appearance is important to him as it is a way to get him noticed by the ladies of the court, which in turn can lead to marrying into a wealth and powerful family. He is not so much vain for vanity's sake, but rather for making sure he gets what he wants. He would be seen as an excellent catch by anyone, looks wise, if his rank in the nobility was not in question.
Bio(s): Robert was born to his parents as their first son. He has two younger brothers, Charles (17) and Douglas (15), and a baby sister Sarah (6). His mother was always very loving towards him but his father, seeing as he was the eldest son, was always hard on him and expected him to be the one to carry on the family legacy. It was this relationship with his father that caused him to follow the idea that he needed to marry up and do better for his family name. His mother always tried to make sure he knew how to be a proper gentlemen but his father was the main voice in his life. Once Robert was able to attend court on his own and really start off on his own way, he became very focused on finding a woman who was of higher standing than he was so that he could prove to his father that he was a good son. When he first saw Mary, he knew he liked her physically and as he got to know her, he began to enjoy her company, but he wasn't really in the relationship for the right reasons. His mind wasn't focused on marrying a woman he loved but a woman who could better his family name. He always figured he would do the whole loving thing later, whether it turned out he actually loved the woman he married or if he had a mistress. He chose Mary because she was the daughter of a Duke and had a blood relation to the King, plus she seemed to have fallen madly in love with him.
Personality(s): Robert wants to move up in the social world to appease his father and so looks for the best woman to marry. He is a bit of a scumbag when it comes to relationship matters given his reasons behind dating certain woman and that he figures he can just find love anywhere, in that it doesn't have to be with his wife and has no problem with multiple mistresses. He also secretly doesn't much care for the courtly dealings that go on around him, he would much rather be out on the docks dealing with his family's trading business (which would in turn leave any wife and children he had at home and alone most of the time while he would have a mistress nearby). He is still a good, well mannered guy though as his mother raised him to be a gentlemen. When around other men he is a very likable guy and often treats his male servants more like brothers. He is a very courtly fellow in appearance, even if on the inside he doesn't want to be there, who is well respected due to the countless hours he and William have spent grooming his reputation. However, one thing he can't shake is a reputation amongst the women of the court as a bit of a flirt because he flirts back more than most men when they flirt with him. Robert is also known to hold things over someone else's head to get what he wants, something else he gets from his father.
Anything Else: Robert has an interest in Amelia, William's oldest sister. This is purely a sexual interest however as he would never marry below his class. Robert enjoys flattering her and offering her gifts to try and win her over but she has so far been the only woman to flat out refuse him.

Gaia Username: Lady Sedia
Character Name(s): William Martin
Age(s): 20
Appearance(s): William has both mouse brown hair and eyes mixed with a nose that is slightly larger than the rest of his features. He is of average build and strength for his job as Robert's servant and said job also keeps him well groomed and wearing the best fashions. His hair brushes up just under his chin and has a slight curl to it.
Bio(s): William was born into the service of the House of Clande by his mother, Janet, the House's main seamstress. At first the plan was for William to work for Michael when he was old enough, but when Robert was born, Michael enlisted William as a playmate/servant for him. Growing up, William became a generally soft-spoken man who took his job as Robert's servant seriously. Robert, however, treated him as a brother just as much as he did a servant so William sometimes has trouble understanding were exactly things stand.

In their years together William and Robert have come to an understanding that they are both very much alike and very different. Both have the same ambitions to lead a better life but their means in doing so are vastly different, as are their definitions of what a better life is. William is quite loyal to the Clande family but his ambitions would lead him astray if given the opportunity to say serve under the king or something. It is not that he would just up and abandon Robert, and Robert knows this, but that he wants to have a more important and memorable (perhaps historic) role in life. Robert, knowing of his thoughts, has often spoken highly of him to other higher up royals in return for William speaking the same of him. This is a double win for Robert because, not only does he help William who then in turn helps him but also having William working for a royal higher up in the chain of command can mean good things for him and his family.

So far, this system of building each other up to reach goals has worked beautifully and has made them both very desirable men in various ways. But with Robert's courtship of Lady Mary, William beings to see just how far Robert will really go for his ideal life and its not really something he approves of. Yet with his status what it is, there is not much he can do.
Personality(s): William is soft-spoken in a sense but he is also fairly direct in how he says things. He is not one to be blunt or yell when he sees something bad happening, rather he is the kind of guy who would pull the person over to the side afterward and "make them aware" that he knew what was going on. For the most part he does not hold things over people's heads (and often does not tell Robert about certain things as he is known to do that) and is generally a very down to earth, reasonable and respectable person. He wants to do something important with his life and in helping Robert reach his goals of moving up the social chain he is somewhat making that happen.

In the beginning of Robert's and Mary's courtship, William was quite proud of the situation that he himself had helped arrange, but in seeing what Robert was actually doing with Mary (finding out Robert's reasons for wanting to marry her)... it has become a life changing moment for him where he has started to question his role in all of this and how his goals in life can truly be met without hurting those around him.
Anything Else: William has 3 younger sisters; Amelia (19), Elizabeth (Beth) (16), and Rebecca (14), who help their mother. On more than one occasion Robert has ask him unnervingly suggestive questions about his sister Amelia who is set to marry the Clande's coachman Edward. William has since learned from his sister that Robert has a sort of thing for her and has thus done the best he can to keep Robert away from her.

Gaia Username: dolls in stitches
Character Name(s): Duchess Katherine (D'Aubigne) Frances, often called "Katrine" by her husband.
Age(s): 32
Appearance(s): Kathrine (D'Aubigne) Frances has quite a pale complexion that only accentuates her grace and wisdom. She is a small framed woman, only standing at five feet and has a bit of a frail figure. Her round face is adorned by two lovely blue eyes, the shade of the cold waves of water that roll ashore. Braids of silvery blond hair are often tied back and hidden by a decorative headpiece. She loves to wear warm colors. When Katrine is in her bed chamber, free of duty, her hair is often let loose into long locks that tickle the small of her back. She wears a simple white nightgown to bed. When in court, the duchess dresses lavishly, however she enjoys flaunting herself even though she may be unattractive to the younger squires and knights alike. She knows that she is a bride that her husband shall brag about until the day he dies.
Bio(s): Kathrine Frances was born to french parents. Her father was Abney D'Aubigne who was a cousin to the former King Charles V. This means that his daughter Kathrine is second cousin to Charles VI. It was no question that the Lady Kathrine D'Aubigne was born into nobility, although she may have not been on top of the hierarchy, she is still considered to be an important patron of the court. She was absolutely beautiful in her younger years and her father was offered many proposals and betrothals of marriage. By the time she was fourteen, she was betrothed to the Duke Richard Frances and married a year later. Katrine was now a duchess. She was able to bore Richard three children. The eldest being a female by the name of Mary. Mary has a younger brother called Rene and another sister who had died at infancy. Mary was also gifted with her mother's beauty. The Duchess is absolutely charmed by her daughter and feels she deserves only the best suitor who can provide wealth and a good name.
Personality(s): Despite her beauty, Kathrine is more charitable than she is vain (but she can be vain!). She is wise with courtly etiquette and also hones many domestic traits. While her husband Richard takes care of political affairs, the Duchess tends to her kin and servants and sees to it that things are flowing in an orderly fashion.
Anything Else: With the current situation involved with her daughter, the duchess has been extremely stressed trying to find a proper suitor for her daughter and to have them marry right away so she can no longer see the boy she has been having an unholy affair with.

Gaia Username: Nightmaredancer
Character Name(s): Lady Mary Frances
Age(s): 16
Appearance(s): Mary in short is a younger, more pretty and youthful, version of her mother with a few exceptions (being her fathers hazel eyes and his ears). Other than that she has her mothers height with 3 extra inches added onto her mothers 5 feet. Something that is also her mothers is her long blond hair that flows past her shoulders, most of the time she leaves it down and its only every once in a while that she puts it up or back. Mary is very skinny and slender as well as being one of the most beautiful girls in the court; just another trait from her mother.
Bio(s): Mary is the oldest child of Duke Richard and Duchess Katherine. She has a younger brother and with her parents having court duties she is usually left to take care of him but as of late she has been neglecting those particular duties. Being 16 years old herself, she feels that she is already 2 years past the normal marrying age and is very hopeful to get a husband soon. She had always wanted to get married at the age when her mother was engaged, but that had come and past sadly enough. Even though she is a little desperate, she is still very picky, and all the suitors who have come to propose never met up to her standards. Then Robert came along and fit into her "perfect man" ideal. After meeting him, she was set on having him and when he began to romance her, she was in heaven. Everything was fine until her father began to be suspicious of Robert's intentions and then finally caught them in bed together. Robert left, but of course Mary is sure that he was just scared a little. She is also sure that he loves her more than anything and would never use her.
Personality(s): Mary is young and naive but very sweet and loving to almost everyone she meets. She is always giving of her time and is ready to help anyone at a moments notice. She is also a bit innocent and doesn't look much deeper than the good she sees in everyone. Basically, to her, no one has any faults, especially Robert. She only sees him as the man who loves her and will always be there for her. She sees true love in this relationship and will always follow him to the ends of the earth if he wanted her to come no matter what people think and no matter the consequences. Lately, before Robert came into the picture, Mary had been getting a bit depressed since she thought she would never marry and live to be an old maid... which is her worst fear.
Anything Else: This is the first relationship that Mary has ever been in and, since it went this far and got this serious so fast, it just shows that Mary went a little crazy over it. She was up for everything Robert wanted from her and it even surprised him sometimes.

Gaia Username: Mouge the Irishman
Character Name(s): Duke Richard Frances
Age(s): 37
Appearance(s): Richard has a short crop of dirty blond hair that is kept neatly combed. His eyes are a light greenish-blue. His nose was of average size. His most defining feature was a small scar near the bottom of his jaw. He stands at five feet and seven inches. In his youth, his body had been in outstanding shape, but as he had time to do less and less, Richard's body declined. While his stomach pokes out more than he would like, the underlying muscles in his body can be seen under the thin layer of fat.
Bio(s):Duke Richard was born and raised an English Duke. He had the typical training such as swordplay, horse riding, and hawking. As with most of the young men at the time, he preferred these activities to his normal studies in school and often skipped his studies to fence and ride. Because of this, his mastery of Latin and mathematics suffered. At the age of seventeen, Richard became engaged to Katherine D'Aubigne. They married roughly a year later. To the surprise of many, the marriage wasn't just about the ties to the king that Katherine had. A genuine love had developed between the two. Soon after, their first child Mary was conceived. A few years after that, his son Rene was born. As the next to be Duke Frances, Richard showed more attention to Rene than to Mary. This changed with the death of his third child, who died soon after birth. The death had been expected, but it still had hit the Duke hard. He started cherishing his daughter for more than a way to increase his influence. Her well-being became severely more important to him. Because of their competition in the trade business, the scandal between the children of both the Duke Frances and Earl Robert Clande became something Richard saw that could be used as black mail against himself.
Personality(s): Richard is a gentleman, but isn't afraid to become involved in what is considered dirty work. Thoughts of personally hunting down the scoundrel who violated his daughter cross his mind often, but it would to risky to engage himself directly. His attitude recently has become more violent and angry, yet he is becoming tired of it all. Part of this is due to age which is considered fairly old, and the other is the scandal which taxes his family.
Anything Else: Because of the recent activities Robert has had with his daughter, Richard has seriously contemplated sending assassins to deal with the scoundrel.

Looks good, although I did take out the "and maybe even kingdom" bit as its way to cocky xd Also remember that Mary and Robert have been caught sleeping together. So father's suspicious are fine but the being caught part would be the clincher (as well make Mary a little less 'innocent' hehe) so I did edit that bit in. Otherwise all good and I edited a bit of Robert's stuff to now that I have an idea of Mary. And I suppose we could start whenever smile

(Because I was already here... hehe Robert is red and William is blue.)

"So what do you plan to do?" William asked as he took another trunk that Robert handed down to him from the top of the coach.

"Waiting out the furry of that madman is the best option right now," Robert said and jumped down with the last of their luggage in hand.

"That madman happens to be Lady Mary's father, a direct relation to the king..." William started to protest but Robert waved him off.

"William, dear friend, from what Charles has told me the king has refused to get involved so there is no need to fear any damage to ourselves or our plans. This is simple the mad workings of a mad who dislikes that his daughter has grown up, it will pass."

"And then will you be marrying Lady Mary?" William asked, not quite sure he would like to hear the answer.

Robert only glanced quickly over at him before he turned his gaze to the clouds and remarked that they had better keep moving or their luggage would be soaked in the coming rain. William knew he was deliberately avoiding the topic.

(I'll throw a little of the father in. Maybe Mouge will pick the part up or something xD)

A furious duke was pacing his wife's chambers impatiently, shouting out loud more so than actually speaking to his wife. "Our family name shall be in jeopardy if word is to get out about Mary...and that..that fiendish boy! We will be the laughing stock of the court!" Richard growled.

Kathrine had already been sitting on the edge of her luxurious bed, chin resting against her soft palm. "Scandals are constantly coming and going throughout the court, dear husband. It is a misfortune that our daughter has to be involved in one of them..." She spoke so quietly, staring at her bare feet, watching as she curled her toes. It was obvious that her husband had come to her chambers to rant. After all, the duchess was the only person he could speak to of this matter.

"What do you suppose you will do, Richard ?" The woman ran her slender fingers throughout her hair, cold eyes still on her feet. "His majesty does not want anything to do with this matter." Finally, Kathrine looked up to her husband who was just a bit gray and very stern looking.

"I wish him dead. That boy...And for Mary..we must wed her off soon! You, Katrine must not handle these affairs anymore. She should have been married long ago! To the Duke of Hillshire! Or the king's nephew for God's sake!" He lashed, slamming his heavy fist into the lady's washstand, shattering vials of perfume. Kathrine jumped and looked away quickly. "If you do not wish to lay with me, then leave."

Richard sighed and left Kathrine's bed chamber only to be escorted to his own..The thoughts of his absent daughter running around with a retched peon churned his stomach. The possibilities of what has been done and what will be done if he does not find her soon and solve this matter haunted him constantly.

((okay doke that all sounds excellent smile good to know thanks!))

Mary frowned as she left the courtyard and she paused a moment on her horse to actually think about things. She only just rushed out of the house without thinking about where she was really going...

" I suppose that he might have headed to relatives or if he is with william then maybe relatives of william. Oh why did things have to come to this? I mean we are going to be married at some point so i cant understand how it is so bad"

She sighed and continued on her way, she decided to first go to william's family and where they lived to possibly see if robert was hiding there. William would be the most likely first choice to hide him since he and robert were such good friends.

" Maybe we should have been a bit more secretive in our actions but were in love so doesnt that explain anything if not everything? Honestly i think robert was days away from proposing if only father didnt get so angry about things like these!! Sometimes i dont even know if he really understands me"

She thought outloud to herself as she began her way to finding robert, she knew that once she found him that he could make everything right again. He would propose and they would speak with her father and everything would be perfect.....But she just had to find robert first.

"There," Robert said as he placed the last piece of luggage onto the pile he had made just inside the door. The rain was only just starting to fall and he glanced back out the door to see if William was done stabling the horse.

Sure enough, William was walking casually through the heavier and heavier drops of rain back towards the main door. "Hurray up will you or we'll both catch a cold!"

William glanced up, seemingly having been pulled out of deep thought, and jogged the rest of the distance to the door. "Shall I put the luggage away and get dinner started?" he asked once the door had been closed behind him.

"Sounds good, I am sure we could both use a good meal," Robert said and walked further into the foyer. Before William could get his coat off, Robert had turned to him again. "How is your family William? Your mother and sisters? I'm sorry to say I haven't had much time to stop in at the family estate and see everyone."

William remarked in his head, "that is because you've been too busy stealing away to Lady Mary's quarters." Yet he knew better than to say such things to Robert and so simply replied that they were well.

"And dear Amelia? I hear she is about to become a married woman," Robert said as he again turned from William and walked slightly away to pour himself a drink in the nearby room. "What a shame," he added quietly and a smile crossed his face.

William almost did not hear him, but given that he had, the comment unnerved him. It was not that he would've minded Robert courting his sister, given their relationship he would have thought it an honor in fact, but as his sister was already set to marry the Clande's coachman Edward and that he knew from his sister that Robert's interest was only sexual in nature, every remark from Robert stung him and he had to remember that despite their close relationship he was still servant and Robert was still master.

"Yes," William said slowly and began walking up the stairs to put away the luggage. "Edward is a fine man, and he will make a good husband."

Watching her tired husband exit the room, Kathrine signaled for her ladies to come tend to her. They had been chatting in their quarters that were connected to her own. The duchess began to rub her temples, as one of her favorite ladies started to brush her graying hair from the roots to the bottom. It was always relaxing for Kathrine to be pampered, especially when her hair was brushed.

"I hope for the sake of Richard..Mary will come to her senses and break off this stupid affair." She whispered softly to the girls. They answered with silence, afraid to speak of the matter.

She had thought of Mary, expressing her angst with a heavy sigh. "I believe that my husband should have the guards search the grounds thoroughly for Mary. If they cannot find her here, then perhaps they shall scour the land. My family will not rest easy until she is found and brought home. And what of that Earl Robert? What will become of him? If it is up to my husband, he would be locked away in a tower far from here..or maybe even executed." The duchess rambled on, not being able to calm her mind. A younger lady approached the broken vials of perfume and began to carefully pick the pieces up, putting them into a mug.

"My lady, please...do not think about this now." She peeped.

The sound of the rain pattering the window echoed in the chamber. Kathrine stood up from her bed and quietly walked to the window and gazed outside. "A suitor must be recognized right away. Perhaps Charles' nephew would be interested in such a betrothal. The royal blood shall stay in the family.." Katrine trailed off. The young lady grabbed her arms and started guiding her to the bed. "Please sleep now, mistress".

Kathrine lie in bed, staring at the canopy. Candles were being blown out one by one and her room became darker.

It was getting darker and mary's mood was getting worse and worse. Not only was the night gaining on her, but also it was raining and she only had a hood to cover her head. Also there was the fact that she still had a bit to go till she was near william's house and that she was getting extremely tired.

"Already stuck and im not even a day into it, not to mention that i really have no idea where in the world robert could be......oh why didnt he atleast tell me where he was going! He knows he can trust me with anything. Oh! i hope he doesnt think i told my father about things!" She gasped to herself at this moment thought and then shook her head as she discounted it completely.

"No he would never think i would have done that. He knows me too well. And obviously his love for me would never lead him astray" She smiled to herself then next and continued on her way in a little bit of a brighter mood.

After what seemed like hours of just trudging along in the pouring rain a stroke of luck came upon mary and she spotted an inn just down the ways on the side of the road. She nearly ran to it and put her horse in the stable and got it situated as fast as she could. As soon as she was done with that she came bursting into the inn and sighed in relief practically collapsing onto the floor.

After a minute of composing herself she looked around saw only a few faces peering at her strangely, she blushed and hoped they didnt know who she was. A dukes daughter coming into an inn, soaking wet probably isnt the best way to do things but as she had been told many times, she didnt look at all like herself when she was wet. So going with that hope she stood up straight, brushed herself off, and strode up to the counter "I would like a room for the night please"

Once she got up to her room she could relax, a small and cozy fire was in the corner and the room itself was very nice. Mary was also very glad that luckily the innkeeper had a who was about mary's size and let her borrow a set of clothes to wear so her other clothes could dry out. She was content for the moment and quickly went to settle into her bed. As soon as the covers were over her she closed her eyes and listened to the rain outside and the sound of two mens voices coming from the room next to hers.

(hope its alright im already at the same place as the guys razz they dont have to see me though if you want it to still be a secret?)

(Nightmare, the guys aren't at a random inn somewhere, they are out in the country at the family's 'vacation home' as it said in the 'story' section. So Mary is not anywhere even close to them if she's only been riding for a day x3 She's not close to the Clande's estate, which is where William's family would be, either as they would be at the very least a few days journey apart. Mary's gotta keep going before she gets close to 'her man' hehe)

Robert kicked his feet up onto a nearby bench and relaxed in the warmth of the hearth that William was pitifully trying to cook over. With all the other servants still back at the family estate as it was not time for the annual trip to the summer cottage, William was the only one to handle things and, needless to say, he wasn't very handy in the kitchen.

"Court and hunting and horses... all things you, my dear friend, are most skilled at. But now perhaps we shall starve as I did not allow you to be taught as a chef," Robert smirked and grabbed one of the apples they had brought with them.

"Once I learn how everything is set then we shall be fine sir, however this place is wholly different from the kitchen of the estate. Pots and knifes on opposite sides..." Robert continued to smile as he watched William scuffle around, trying to locate the tools he needed to mince and dice.

"Mayhaps we should invite Amelia down, she could cook for us. A woman needs to learn skills in the kitchen besides, if she is to be a good wife." William stopped in mid-stride and had to will himself not to glance over at Robert. Why must he always first turn to his sister?

"What of Lady Mary?" William asked, changing the subject quickly. "Shall you ask her about her cooking skills?"

"A lady such as Mary needs no cooking skills," Robert snorted in amusement and swung his feet down to lean forward. "She is the daughter of a Duke, related to the King no less. A lady such as her has hundreds of servants to do the cooking and wash. And even so, cooking skills are the least valuable skill for a woman of stature."

William was not exactly sure if Robert had just insulted his sister or Lady Mary, yet he did his best to keep his mind focused on the cooking. If only he was a good and able cook in order to keep Robert's mouth from spewing such talk.

((okay okay got it i just wasnt sure about where they were. plus its just getting hard to rp with myself! >.<))

Mary woke up the next morning with a sore throat and a stuffy nose. She coughed and sighed "Great, a cold........just what i needed!!"
She growled and then tried as best she could to shake off the sickness by getting herself ready for another day of travel, taking a bath, getting something to eat. By the time she was actually on the road once more she felt quite better and had almost forgotten about being sick in the first place.

Heading down the road, still wet from last night's downpour, mary got lost in her thoughts and began daydreaming of what would happen when she found robert and how they would plan things out, they would obviously be getting married soon after she tracked him down so mary smiled and got excited about getting prepared for that, she always dreamed of the day when robert would propose and it would be perfect no matter how it happened.

" Even if we must only marry for my fathers sake it will still be good, because we are together and we are in love as well, so with anything that could happen, we will be strong and persevere forever!"
She ended up practically yelling that last part and then blushed and looked around hoping that nobody would have noticed her acting that way.

After seeing that no one was around her so they could not have possibly witnessed her unlady like burst, she fell back into her daydream as she kept on plodding down the road.
