BRIEFING;
After being used by the Keepers for their own will things have
returned to normal.
Besides the fact that I am now a Keeper myself.
Though I am not one to
hole myself up like the rest.
The Keeper Orland insists that I soon
take Caduca's place but I refuse such an offer.
I would not fare well as
Head Keeper.
My place....is on the city streets.

--Garrett

[NOTES]
Setting is somewhat steampunkish.
meaning there is electricity in richer places and establishments.
And mechanical structures in Hammerite buildings.
Hammerites are basically like hardcore Christians
and worship the Builder God
Pagans are their rivals.
Naturalists that worship the Trickster.
Keepers are those who watch over the city
and interpret prophesies
all in the form of Glyphs
which are really little doodles and designs.
similar to chinese, japanese, or egyptian.

[PLACES]
South Quarter: the poor part of the city. The only fancy thing about it is the Blue Heron Inn on the outskirts of town. This is where Garrett lives, as well as where the general market and blackmarket rest.

Stonemarket: Hammerite territory. Here one will find St. Edgar Church, Fort Ironwood, and the Clock Tower. All Hammerite buildings. Fort Ironwood is also the final resting place for all those passed away, as long as they followed the Builder god.

Old Quarter: The oldest and richest part of the city. Here is the large fancy homes, bars and pubs, as well as the abandoned Shalebridge Cradle. The Cradle is an orphanage turned insane asylum. Nobody know what happened there but now it is abandoned and rumored to be haunted.

The Docks: a staple place for all merchants. Without the Docks, there is no merchandise. But be warned. The docks are also Pagan territory. If you have no business there then you will be in trouble.

Auldale: A different district on the outskirts of town. Mainly a business type community with a few small apartments about establishments.

So I hit up the Blue Heron Inn again last night. Heartless Perry gave me quite the tip that some nobles had gone there to stay. Luckily for me, the inn isn't all that far from home.

It was nearly dawn before I returned home with the collectibles I had managed to steal from under their noses. My favorite? A small golden chest that plays a soft tune when opened. Amongst other things. Mainly coins, medallions, and jewelery. Things that Perry would take an interest in and pay me a fair penny for.

But that was last night. I slept most of the day, never going out in the daylight. It would be too risky, considering that my encounter with the Keepers awarded me no liberties with the City Guard. Yes, they are still after me.

So it turned out that Heartless Perry hung a "be back in three hours" sign on his door and locked up shop. Well, I'll just have to sit in the shadows until then, won't I?

After getting chaced for about a block by an angry person Weasel sat in a door way to eat his wonderful smelling bread, said bread was the reason he had been running. he finished the bread fast, he knew better then to eat something like that slow. if someone was to see, like a guard, they would know it was not his to begin with.

Weasel brushed the crumbs off his shirt and into a pile eating those with a gulp. he headed off towards market. he figured he might be able to get something that was warm. tonight was the first night in acouple days he was actually warm inside from food. but that small bread would not keep his hunger down for long. he could smell something wonderful in the air and followed it.

A sound. Garrett's first reaction was the turning of his mechanical eye towards the source. Slowly followed by his blue one.

Hmmm....how interesting.

The male that made the sound was obviously street material. Much like he had been at one point before he had stored up a bit of rent money. But he was curious, nonetheless.

His green mechanical eye turned toward a new sound. A guard. The armor clad man was slowly walking toward the market, nodding to the few people who still milled about. Garrett remained hidden for the time being.

he did not notice the guard his eyes on someone who had just picked up a bag full of what smelt like smoked meat. Weasel could not help but lick his lips and move in to a stall closer to the elderly looking woman. he would wait until she was close, then he would move out bumping into her, he would mumble a sorry and walk off holding the bag he had cut from her belt.

His stomach was rumbling now from the smell he knew if he didn't he would be very hungry that night. his small frame shivered with antisipation.

Garrett recognized the look in the younger male's eyes. He had seen it all too often. But then, he didn't give a damn about who stole what.

New feeling that it is somewhat an obligation to look after the citizens? Unless I am the one causing mischief of course....Orland, you're truly a dolt if you think me a Keeper.

As soon as Garrett moved from the shadows, things happened fast. The guard exclaimed "I'll get you, filthy taffer!" whilst drawing his sword. But he froze on the spot at Garrett's next action.

Garrett grabbed the male's wrist before a move could be made. His blue eye remaining locked on those belonging to the other, while his mechanical one seemed to scan the male over.

"Trust me. You do not want to do that."

The confused guard was still scratching his head and watching them. The others in the area had turned to look as well. But somehow Garrett knew that if the younger male had tried to steal anything from anybody like that, he would have gone to prison.

Not a fun place to be....

Weasel looked shocked when he was grabbed. he was too scared to move and just looked shocked up at the other. his hands shaking.

Once he had noticed the guard his cheeks went alittle white. he was now full out shaking looking at the man grasping his wrist, not sure why someone would want to be kind enough to stop him.

Garrett released the male's wrist, though his expression remained blank. He had done his good deed for the day. And the guard was too dumbstruck to arrest anyone. That raid of the museum recently was sure to be enough to lock him up for a long time.

But they could never trace it to me in a million years.

Garrett said nothing else to the other male. Instead, he turned on his heels and headed back towards Black Alley. He still had some items to sell to Heartless Perry, after all.

Not caring if he was followed, he pushed on the door to Perry's shop. Still locked. He glanced around quickly, pulling out his bow and a specially made arrow that was equipped with a small pouch of water that would burst on impact. This he fired at the closest torch to ensure he was in darkness. Then set to picking the lock to Perry's shop.

Weasel watched as the man left. he slowly followed still pale and shaky. when he got to the darkened ally he let his eyes get use to it then moved towards the wall leaning against it. he feared his legs where to give out. "W..why d..did you d..do that?" he said his shaking caring over to his voice as he watched the man do what he figured was pick the doors lock.

s**t.

Garrett stood hastily, dropping his tools onto the ground. He had just gotten the door unlocked as well. Though he unstiffened when he saw it was only the other male.

"Why did you follow?"

Garrett was curious, though it never showed on his face. He was far too hardened by his life to let his emotions surface.

He can't be as stupid as he's appearing to be. Something is going on here.

While he thought, he scratched his temple lightly with his right hand, the key shaped scar all too noticeable, despite the dim light. Well, it was a glyph. And all glyphs stood out. No matter where.

But would he trace the symbol to the Keepers?

Weasel shivered seeing the glyph, he couldn't remember why he recongnized it. maybe it had been one of the ones he saw in one of the books he had stollen.

"I.. I asked y..you first" he shivered again nibbling on his lip, it made him look like a little child that had been caught doing something he shouldn't.

A slow, slightly creepy smirk spread on Garrett's face. There may not have been a lot of years between them, though it felt like it.

Naive brat. Wait till he's been through as much as I have.

Garrett's thoughts were interrupted.

He turned his head, his expression going blank again. A guard had turned down the alley and was heading in their general direction. "Now who put out that light?"

Garrett glanced to the other, signaling to be quiet. He quietly opened Perry's door and hastily retrieved his lock picking tools then yanked the other male inside. Only once the door was closed did he feel a little more at ease.

And there was Perry, passed out in a drunk stupor on a couch.

Hmm...he won't mind me helping myself. Perry always under pays.

Garrett headed to the counter and around it, taking the cash box from underneath. He dumped his small bag of gold and jewels onto the counter, figuring how much each would cost. He didn't have time to wait for Perry. Rent was due.

"Think about your question. Does it really need an answer in my voice? Or can you figure?"

There was a few reasons why he had stopped the other male from stealing. One, it was clear the male was inexperienced. Two, prison was a horrible place. And Three, well, Garrett wasn't entirely sure of that one but there was definitely another reason.

When Weasel heard the guard his hands started to shake more. why must he be such a scaredy cat. he was pulled into the room and he heard the other move to the cash regester.

he blinked looking puzzled at the other his eyes falling on the sleeping man then went to him. he slowly moves towards the counter

"W..why are you stealing when he is right there? and I do n..not know why you would save me from that. most would c..call that a token.. f..for me to owe them for saving my life..."

He went alittle red and shivered thinking of what others had done when they 'saved' his life. he looks at the stranger falling silent. he felt safe around the other and was not sure why.

He looked at some of the stuff the other had placed on the counter and seemed in awe of them, Weasel had never managed to steal anything that beautiful.

"You have so much to learn...."

Yes, Garrett was teasing. He glanced over his shoulder to Perry, who gave a disgusting grunt of a snort before turning on his side.

"That is Heartless Perry. He runs the black market here in South Quarter. I usually sell my keep to him every now and again. Though seeing as he's drunk once more, I help myself. Taking what I believe it will cost and leaving the rest behind."

Why am I explaining to this brat? Why is he following me?

"Stealing from Perry will leave you missing a hand."

Garrett counted out a few more coins, only then realizing that the male had said something else. About why he had stopped him from stealing. Why he had "saved" him.

"Must there be a reason?"

when Perry moved Weasel jumped and moved closer to the counter looking at Garrett his eyes sparkling in the candle light. in direct light like this his oddly green eyes where visible. they seemed almost painted.

he slowly stopped shivering and looked at the objects on the table "they always have a reason.. or a.. p..payment" he swollowed and put his hands into his pockets "They always do when they s...save me" although he didn't look it the Boy called Weasel was far from dumb as he did seem.

his nerves made him seem like he was not fully there but unlike the others that ran the streets weasel had learned to read a couple years ago and if he hadn't been born to an unmarried woman he would probably be in school.

There was one object that the other had set out that caught his attention and he reached out turning it over on the counter "Power.." he said softly reading out what had been writen there. he turned it back over looking at the small ruin that was drawn onto it "Power" he repeated then dropped his hand, he realized he was touching the others treasure and that normally got a very painful beating. he took a step back shivering his eyes returning to the others.
