After Giovanni makes his leave, the normal *walking out cave* sound effect isn't heard, and instead there is this *SPLASH* sound followed by dead silence. As Giovanni's secret hideout was in Tohjo Falls, the entrance was directly next to the rapid waters and he could've committed (or atleast) suicide.

After the *SPLASH* sound, the radio signals in from the Goldenrod Radio Tower Team Rocket members "Where has Giovanni gone? I wonder if he's coming..."

Ethan: "They keep calling their boss. I feel sorry that they don't know he's not coming".


Now, of course Ethan knew Giovanni wasn't going to go to the Radio Tower, since Lyra had already been there in the game and Giovanni didn't show up.
There seems to be a lot of debate about whether or nor Giovanni has simply given up on TR and gone into deeper hiding or killed himself.


Personally? You being responsible for the death of our Rival's father is a bit too morbid for me.

I thought that Giovanni killed himself. How else do you explain the lack of footsteps, the splash, and that soon after Team Rocket looses power, and we never hear about Team Rocket OR Giovanni ever again?

I thought it was radio static.

I'm undecided. While I don't think it sounded anything like radio static, I just have a hard time believing Giovanni would commit suicide over something as trivial as losing a battle.

I think what Ethan/Lyra said can definitely be taken two different ways, that either a) Giovanni jumped, or b) they know he won't come back because they were already at Goldenrod before and Giovanni never showed up.

I guess I might lean a bit more towards that it's a possibility he committed suicide, but isn't that a bit too mature for a Pokemon game aimed for children, even if it's something that would go right over kids' heads?
