Lately the mods have been revealing a lot of cool stuff regarding to chapter two. I'm not sure how many of you saw them already, but there pretty damn awesome. I dont want you guys to miss out on this stuff so here it is:

Mavdoc
3D Model Creation

After being approved in the concepting phase, environments and props move on to become actual 3D models.

Following the concepts as a reference in building, the objects are modeled in Maya or a similar 3D modeling package.

As soon as the polygons are created in the form of the object, the UVs are laid out. These are basically coordinates that every surface uses to determine where on the texture that face will be mapped. UVs are points that directly correlate to each vert (or point) that make up a 3D model. Think of "UV" as pretty much X and Y on a 2D plane; horizontal and vertical.

The texture(s) used for any given object or scene contain all the surfaces that will "skin" the model, making it look lifelike with all the varied patterns and colors that comprise it. In the farmhouse image, several of the polygons that make up the overhang are selected, and the corresponding UVs shapes highlight in the texture.

The Null Chamber scene shows many of the Maya tools and dialog boxes used when working with 3D models. These include windows that display all the nodes (individual objects) in a 3D scene, UV and texture displays, and the attribute editor which is used for a variety of tasks like giving information on the file path and options for textures like shown.

All the textures in the game are actually hand painted to give that cartoony look. Most videogames today use actual photographs to create their textures.

As you could guess, modeling, UV layout and hand painting textures for every single object in the game whether it's a pebble or expansive jungle ruins takes an immense amount of work. It's much more than we could handle internally at Gaia, so we get help through modeling outsourcing companies. We've worked with two both out of China: Vykarian and Pearl Digital.

After receiving the completed 3D models from these outsourcers, there's usually an amount of cleanup, optimization or just general tweaking that's involved internally to make the models look more like the concepts, or just better in general.

Even though we have outside help, some areas and props in the game were actually created totally in house, while many others were created internally through manipulation and repurposing of existing models.

Next up will be some asset organization, then moving on to the process of rendering out these 3D models--

And this one was just posted now:

Today we're revealing one of our new boss monsters in zOMG. Originally, we were planning to use this boss for the DMP area, but we've since moved him elsewhere due to the fact that that area will be designated for vampires.

Here are some concepts...

The design went through several iteration like most of our monster concepts. We also spend extra time and effort for bosses since they usually require more gameplay and visual FX.

Most monsters require 1-2 weeks to finish, but bosses usually take up to 4 weeks to complete. We'll explain the zOMG animation pipeline later on. smile

THEY EVEN HAVE VIDEOS:

I like 2D rather than the 3D to be honest. It has that "look we can be just like WoW :B" thing going on.Plus I think it will be hella easy to get lost between maps in 3D.

Buuuuuuuuuuuut yay for progress I suppose :3

I hope we can go to Aekea in the 2nd Chapter and fight the malfunctioning robots.

Not a big fan of it either. Mainly because of the fact that our avi's are still 2d, makes it look odd.

I'm not sure where but I'm pretty sure they already announced that Durem would be the next area. I'm predicting animated pipe snakes that burrow through the ground for the reclamation center, along with more powerful robofish swimming in the center, animated corpses in the graveyard, halloweentown appearing every october, and the area near the von helson mansion becoming the new SS, filled with the vampires and bats we had last halloween and new omg monsters, along with Zhivago being the new X and a freaky powerful omg monster as the end boss.

Personally, as someone with a raggedly slow compy, I perfer 2d.

I mean, I love the new concept, but I'd really enjoy if they had the option to choose between 2D and 3D.

Did I miss something? I thought JK said that they weren't making zOMG into 3D since the dev team was too small for that.

I like seeing all the stuff they've been revealing, but I hope they don't reveal too much and ruin the surprise for when Chapter 2 is released.

Yea, they are not making it 3D, it's just models. I like the 2D though, it's fun except we're not able to jump. D:
Thought it's nice to know there's going to be a vampire place and since it's a cash register it could be the Isle in some shop or maybe Durem, but wither one would be cool.

I'm glad it's not going 3D. The lag that currently exists is bad enough.

[ JK ]
Hey all, with the forthcoming expansion areas in zOMG!, we're excited to announce that we'll also be adding new recipes and loot items in the game. Most of these items will be rare items which will require lots of time, luck and effort to craft. There will be varying degree of rarity when it comes to these items. The most rare items being labeled "Epics."

With these rare items, we'll also be introducing a new crafting system. This system will require charge orbs as one of the key component. So hang onto those extra orbs, you'll need them.

Some rare items will even require a whole zOMG! items like the fluff plushies as part of the ingredient. On top of that, we'll also be adding "fail rates" to the most rarest of items (we'll explain more later).

So you see where we're going with this, it's not going to be easy crafting these items. However, the reward for a successful craft is going to be well worth it, since some of these items will be so rare that it'll rival the "halo" in terms of rarity.

To give you a small taste of things to come, the following concepts are from the rare pirate themed set which will be released in the future along with new areas.
