I think I would like a medium sized shovel. About 3 feet overall, I like it because it can cause good blunt damage, and I could sharpen the edges and use it as an axe, that, and once I'm done, I can give my enemies a proper burial. Also, a shovel of this size is fairly light, and I could dig out fox holes and small snow caves should I find myself stuck on the side of a mountain somehow. The problem is, it will be a bit off balance, it wasn't made as a weapon, but that won't stop me from using it as such, and it also has versatile use as a tool.

The Morning Star.
This thing is danger attached to a chain, I'm pretty sure you could get killed just by looking at it. This thing will be hard to block because it is pure crushing strength backed by spikes and unpredictability.
The thing is, it will have no use as a tool, and being unpredictable, you could hurt friend, foe, and yourself. This thing is basically a slightly controlled force of destruction.

The baseball bat, that s**t's classic. Made aerodynamically for max swing speed, cylindrical shape for structural integrity, and the thing feels good and comfortable when swinging, they have decent crushing power weighing generally 20 to 30 oz., and they are mass produced so you will pretty much always be able to find one.

The Cutlass. Generally, I wouldn't use a sword in this day and age because most are ornamental, but if I can find a good cutlass, I'm taking it. I like it's curved shape for close quarters slashing and I like the hand guard for punching and blocking.

The Scythe.
Not originally designed as a weapon, but most weapons were inspired by tools anyhow. It may be a little awkward to handle at first, but its very build is designed to reap and tear through things in broad swings. It is extremely difficult to block, and it moves in a deceptive striking path. Plus, I'm yet to see a melee weapon in reality with more style.

Three Sided trench spike, crude, and deadly. You get stabbed by a three sided trench spike and you are officially one of a surgeons worst nightmares, there is absolutely no good way that I can think of to stitch a triangular wound. You're going to have basically a hole in you, it will likely get infected, and you will lose a lot of blood. The only way I can think of to effectively close such a thing is to cauterize it. Unfortunately, the spike is rarely in balance with the handle, so untrained people will likely only score glancing blows, and the trench spike has absolutely no use as a tool.

Halberds, they are an axe made for use as a weapon, have a pike end and a medium reach, pretty decent weapons.

You probably shouldn't get all your weapon information from Deadliest Warrior and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Sai is a good weapon based on the person. The small blade makes it a precision weapon, I guarantee that about 90% of people, if not more, would suck with them.

Good ol' fashioned stick or staff. You can find them anywhere, like a cue stick, a "broken" ranged blade weapon, or gardening tools with the head removed.
Plus, they're usually light, structurally sound, and have great range and are relatively simple to use.

Well, if you just pick up a stick in the woods, yeah, it will probably just break. But some materials are quite durable. Bamboo for example has a higher tensile strength than steel and better compression resistance than concrete, it just has to be treated so it doesn't absorb water which would render those characteristics much less effective.
