This is a bit outlandish, but it's a popular topic. Well, you got to be prepared for everything.

This is generally the apocalypse that people make stupid decisions in, why, because they think it's going to be a freaking video game. I don't want anyone coming in here saying they're going to carry a ninja-to and a shotgun with infinite shells, I will kick you from this guild.

The fact is, when it comes to weaponry, picking up a sword in this day and age is quite possibly one of the dumbest things you can do in a ZA. Severing a head won't actually kill a zombie. And since the majority of people can't even claim to be novices with a sword, you will not be slicing through much, you will just find yourself getting snagged in bones and entrails. Besides, the majority of swords these days are simply ornamental, no use in a fight, even if you do find one, maintenance will be a huge pain, not even worth the trouble. What you should go for is either a blunt weapon like a bat or shovel, a sledge hammer will be too heavy and clumsy for most people to swing for long amounts of time, you will probably just end up damaging your strong hold. Another good weapon is a hatchet, full on axe will have the same issue as a sledge hammer, and crowbars, despite what you hear, are too off balance and will get hooked and stuck.

Time to talk guns. No gun that fires live rounds is useless in this situation, no time to be picky, a .22 caliber pistol might seem weak, but it's probably one of the most deadly weapons in a ZA for people who know what they are doing with a gun. The .22 pistol has enough force to enter the skull, but not exit, so what it will do is bounce around in there and mangle the brain. I wouldn't recommend an automatic to any civilian, civilians tend to be panicky, hectic and jumpy, and will usually use far more ammunition than necessary to effectively eliminate a zombie.

When it comes to food and water, boil any water that isn't bottled with an unbroken seal, when a liquid like blood hits the water of a pond, it will disperse all over the pond to the point you can't see it, but that doesn't mean the virus isn't there. For food, hunting small or large game is not recommend, they could be carriers, and you are using up valuable ammo. go with canned meat whenever possible for the protein.

For the stronghold, a high place is good, with 2 entrances, one for an escape, and one for normal use, no more than two though because that will mean you will need extra supplies for barricades and defenses.

O.K., now that we got that big hulking wall of text out of the way, what's your plan?

I would equip myself with my mini 14. Mostly because I have a 1,000 round block sitting in my basement, and 99.9% of military carry the M4/m16 series all firing the 5.56 NATO round, so ammo wont be hard to find. This is all under the assumption that i'm not still in the military when this happens.

My melee weapon of choice would be my tactical tomahawk, for the versatility and skull crushing/piercing power.

And what do you mean severing the head won't actually kill a zombie? Survived a zombie apocalypse lately?

Finally I would grab supplies. First would be the 3 weeks worth of MRE's I have stored in my basement. Steal the nearest operational off-road capable vehicle and drive across the open plains with my trusty set of wire-cutters.

And never travel in large groups, thats a big one. When the Z.A. comes around friendly fire will be the #1 killer. Not the zombies themselves.

I plan to wait this out in the forest. After about a year, somebody would have to have won. If humans, I WIN biggrin , if zombies, *headshot*.... I plan to go with my 9mm, and 12 guage. As for food, the forest is great for hunting and with a survival handbook, alot of berries and plants can make food alone. As in all movies ive ever seen, zombies are unable to climb, so (as childish as it may seen) i would build a tree fort. With a rope ladder, i can sleep in peace without the fear of the broken, jagged teeth tearing my flesh off.
Up high is where you want to be, especially in a forest, zombies aren't your only worry at that point, you really need to keep a sharp lookout for the more dangerous wildlife.

Excellent points. Umbra, that's a lot of ammunition, but we all know that a rifle without a round is basically a stick with a trigger. Also, good point about the group for any situation, yes, friendly fire will cause large amounts of casualties and injuries, but it is also taxing on your supplies to have too many people and the more people you have the larger a base you'll need, and unfortunately, there is no time to be picky. Also, no matter what the situation, it's never a good idea to lump your men too closely together, it would not be ideal to say the least losing half you're crew to an explosion or small scale surgical strike. Also, the tomahawk is a great weapon, good for close quarters and it really only takes one hand to wield effectively and has multiple uses as a tool.

For me, it depends greatly on location. If I'm at home at midnight, I'm not traveling, out of sight out of mind isn't a good principal in a zombie apocalypse. First things first, make no assumptions, my door handles are coming off, I'm not taking any risks with the motor functions of the undead. Second, I'm plugging the drains on the tub and sinks and filling those and any containers with extra water. Then, I'm going to my attic to bust a whole in my roo and covering it with a tarp (it can serve as a look out and escape and if I'm armed, a good position) I will have by now instructed my family members to start breaking apart all shelves tables and other wooden objects for use for barricading. I'm going to do things a bit different for my front door though, I'm going to screw holders onto the siding to put in removable bars should I need to go find supplies. I'm also going to try to get in touch with whoever possible through my land line telephone. I'm also going to shave my head the second things go down, one less thing to grab hold of, you know.

What if a zombie beaver finds your tree while you're sleeping? You'll be screwed!

I honestly thought that this thread would have a ton of posts, especially considering that a lot of people are in a zombie fase right now.

After reading this, I have to say, I'll probably just go up into my mountains with as much of my gear as I can cart. I had been working on a bunker in an abandoned system of bear caves a couple years back, but got distracted and quit before finishing.. anyway, yeah, I'd have to scout out to ensure they're still abandoned, but the fortifications I made were stone, so I doubt they've weathered too much. Seeing as how I've only me and one other I'd go out of my way to save, that should serve fairly well once stocked.

first thing I'd do is get a good firearm, but that's obvious. I live in a highly populated area so I'd have to get in the car and drive to the nearest military base. after that i would attempt to steal a tank (heavily fortified, but i might not be able to operate it). then I would head to the Zion narrows, canyons and 100 foot waterfalls make a good defense, especially with a tank (assuming i can use it). I'm not sure on supplies though.

Well ill start with equipment. First wear thick clothes at all times no t-shirts and shorts im talking rubber waders, leather jackets, something to guard the neck [scarf?]. For melee weapons I prefer the cricket bat [funny and practical] or something along those lines and as for a firearm you cannot beat the M9 its all round good. Its reliable has a large magazine easy to hand and carrying clips would be that difficult [you could jimmy rig a belt for many clips] also for a plan id get the hell out of the area im in fast...if not probable hide in my house and nearly raid neighbors when needing supplies ill go into survival plan later

I've made a Zombie thread once before. So I am going to copy paste my op.

Theories to what caused the outbreak: I think the Government or Military will try to create something such as a serum to make humans faster and stronger, something to extend human life far beyond normal, or maybe a virus that kills all brain function except the primal ones. Walking, Hunger, and Thirst.

Ways to be prepared: Own a truck. I find that having a truck in a Zombie situation is rather useful. Such as now days, trucks can hold much more people or supplies then a car. Trucks can run over Zombies without much damage to the vehicle. They can go to remote locations off road where cars could never go. The only bad thing might be gas milage.

Where you will go: Well from where I live now it would have to be the nearest grocery store. That would be Fred Meyer for me. Stock up on food and water. Grab the best item in the store to fend off Zombies. It would be something that is effective to kill, as well as keep distance between me and the zombie. After freddys I would go to the nearest gun shop. Once again stock up on guns and ammo. From there maybe go to the mountains where I camp at. I know the land there.

What you will do: Fill up my truck with gas. Get water, food, guns, and ammo. Pick up 3 girls I know and 1 dude friend. I already know which people i would get. I dont want a group over 5 people and i figure 3 girls 2 guys out in the woods is a perfect group.

Help rebuild or kill zombies and loot: Both. The only ways i would help rebuild is to help repopulate the earth. Yeahhhh you know what im talkin about. And I would help kill off the zombies. Other then that i would hunt zombies on a weekly basis. 5 days hunting and finding resupply locations. 2 days resupplying.
