Fire: A mammal. I love the Mammals, man.
A Cat, maybe? Start as a house cat -> Lynx -> Tiger?
Water: More Mammals!
Water Buffalo?
Water Dog? (Geddit. Like a Portugese Water Dog) only it would be like a Lab with webbed feet.
Or a Platypus
Grass: I'm thinking a Hummingbird -> Peacock Evolution.

I want some new secondary types. I'm sick of fighting. Water could be a Heron and get flying as the secondary type. Grass needs a really cool secondary type. Dark, perhaps. Make it a nocturnal forest mammal, like a possum or a KinkajouFire is always amazing. As long as we dont get another Fire/Fighting I'll be ok with it.

I just dont see them reusing a legendary design for a starter.

I realized something not too long ago...
Most people have noticed that one of the starter pokemon is always a little bit cuter than the others for more appeal towards girls. Squirtle for gen 1, Chikorita for gen 2, Torchic for gen 3, and Piplup for gen 4. They even confirm that these are the 'cuter' options because in the Pokemon Adventures manga, the trainers of these pokemon are all girls. One of the few reasons boys even think of choosing these options is because the final evolution ends up being pretty strong (Save for Meganium; it's good for support, but not so much for bashin' heads).
Now, if you take a little closer look at these choice starters, you'll see a pattern emerge in what type they are. Water, grass, fire, then back to water. With this pattern in place, I feel that it is safe to assume that in the fifth gen, the 'cute' starter is going to be of the grass type.
Anyone agree?

I didn't really notice that. I thought both Bulbasaur and Charmander were cuter than Squirtle, (Chikorita was the cutest in Gen2, but I liked Mudkip and Turtig more in 3 and 4. So...Fire/Grass, Grass, Water, Grass? Time for another cute fire!) for one thing. Which is "Cuter" tends to be highly subjective.

Well, I was thinking along the lines of 'which starter would a company market towards girls'. But yes, cuteness is completely based on individual opinion.
And my opinion says Bulbasaur > Squirtle.
