Picture of DresiediDresiedi sat under a willow tree, shaded from the bright morning sun. Sleep had eluded her the night before, and she had found herself wandering the world in darkness. Darkness had never bothered or worried Dresiedi. After her past, she preferred the solitary quietude of the night. Dresiedi had once been a happy and beautiful Manachrome, Her wings dazzling in the sun. She had sung and danced, and would create bursts of light from her heartgem. Ever since the day her beloved had been taken away from her, things were much different. Now she felt like a hollow shell, wandering the world alone, hiding from the light of the sun, waiting til age crept over her, or death took her.
Today she felt comfortable in the shade of the willow, picking small wild flowers, sucking the energy from them into her heartgem, and turning the energy into small blots of darkness in the day. Small spots in the light would suddenly deepen under the willow tree, feigning a nightly hue for a moment, then brightening up the lighter sun-streaming brilliance. The small act of deepening and lightening almost brought a smile to Dresiedi's face, but she was running out of the small wildflowers, and her pile of dead, withered, lifeless flowers was steadily increasing.
She squinted up through the slivers of light in the willow tree, and knew she would not want to venture into the unshielded rays of the sun. Instead, she would wait for the sun to set and the blessed darkness of night to again envelop her before leaving the sanctuary that the tree provided.
But what would she do with her day when she ran out of wildflowers, from which to remove the energy and entertain herself? This thought had Dresiedi rethinking her decision to stay out so long. She sighed as she created another small dark spot in the air, and as it faded, so did her mood.If this isn't correct, i'll fix it later- I couldn't find any descriptions of places or environments-

Criostail was out wandering that day. Despite being told by the older heartgems not to wander around, she disobeyed. She ran up the hills, feeling the wind catch in her hair and play in her wings. She loved the freedom of being outdoors, where the sun shone and nature surrounded her in every possible way.
The sunlight made her heartgem sparkle, and she felt full of energy, like there was nothing in the world that could stop her or make her unhappy. As she passed by a shady willow tree, she sensed something and turned her head to look.
It was an older heartgem, and her eyes seemed to hold deep sorrows that was making her bitter and resentful. Something compelled Criostail to go to the older heart gem, and so she did.

Dresiedi was just running out of flowers to seep energy from when she heard a rustling of the leaves of the tree. Dresiedi's heartgem began to feel hot and angry at the untruder. She DID NOT like company and DEFINTELY didn't want to be bothered. Upon seeing the sweet, innocent looking young Manachrome, Dresiedi's agitation seemed to spike, and it took everything in her to try to be nice and not throw the entire pile of dead flowers in the direction of the young one. If there was anything she hated more than being social, it was the joy and gaety of the young.
She had been like that once- and envied the youth her innocense and naivity. Taking a deep breath, and scowling in the direction of the young one, Dresiedi muttered, "What do you want?"

Criostail ducked as she saw something flying in her direction. When they hit her, she finally saw they were merely withered wildflowers. However, their stems were blackened and were lifeless. Compeltely lifeless.
The harsh tone of voice startled Criostail. Despite the fact that the voice had a musicality to it, her tone was unmistakably hostile. Inside, Criostail cringed.
"Uhm, I-I was just wondering if you were okay." She stuttered in reply. She sensed that the older heartgem did not want her around, and yet she felt a responsibility to soften the sharp edges in her soul. She was crying out for help, and yet she did not want to admit it. Criostail sighed softly.

Dresiedi shuddered at the pitch and bounce in the young heartgem's voice- she could feel a headache coming on. But something in her heart couldn't force this gleeful thing away- she saw something of her younger self in the young one, and tried her hardest to hide it. She sighed and decided to be civil.
"I'm Fine... I'm just staying here for the day- I prefer to venture out at night. And seeing as I've just run out of flowers, I guess there's not reason to chase you off. Maybe you can amuse me until the sun sets." Dresiedi sat up and examined the young heartgem closer. Yes- young. Young and naive- but caring.
She cleared her throat and tried to sound pleasant. "I'm Dresiedi. Who are you?"

Dresiedi. Criostail repeated that to herself. It was a beautiful name, but she wasn't sure what it meant, nor was she sure she really wanted to know.
"My name is Criostail," She answered softly. "Do you want more flowers? I could get them for you." She offered. She stood there, waiting for an answer, feeling like maybe today, she could accomplish something with Dresiedi. Either way, she would not give up

Dresiedi nodded as the heartgem introduced herself.Criostial- Cute and innocent, just like the small creature beside her. "Well, I guess I'm lucky you wandered under MY tree- At least now I have company until the sun sets." Dresiedi tossed her long ebony hair to the side and smirked.
"Do you really want to get me more flowers? I'm just going to kill them. Then they'll be nothing more than withered stems like what I flung at you earlier." The thought made Dresiedi a little sick to her stomach. Something that was once beautiful and full of life- and she had drained it, just like that. Into nothing but a withered and empty shell. A darkness came into her eyes, as she realized she was doing to other things exactly what had happened to her.
Her smirk dropped and her eyes seemed to almost glaze over as she remembered that day. When she thought that with a single touch her entire world would fall apart. She lay back down and gazed at the sun beaming down through the leaves. She almost forgot that Criostial was even there. Her heart was sinking back into depression, and she almost felt guilty for letting it show in front of her new... friend? Was that what she was?

Criostail watched as the emotions played across Dresiedi's face. The was sorrow, pain, and regret in them. Instinctively, she reached out to touch Dresiedi's hands.
"There's no harm in killing flowers, but there's harm when you kill yourself inside," She murmured. She looked into Dresiedi's eyes and saw all her anguish and pain, and felt her heart ache for what she saw in her eyes. She felt a bond wrapping itself around her, binding her tightly to Dresiedi.

Dresiedi looks down at her hands, where the younger heartgem's rested, and couldn't help but smile a little. She was touched by this other being who seemed to understand her, even if they were almost complete strangers.
Dresiedi looked up at Criostial with tears in her eyes. "My past is a dark one, Criostial. Enjoy your innocence and your youth while it's still fresh and new. I pray that nothing will ever change that for you, as it as dealt a harsh hand to me." She gave the heartgem's hands a squeeze, and patted her gently on the cheek, smiling a teary smile.
Dresiedi felt the bond between them too, so she tried not to ruin the newfound friendship with tears- and instead, tried to straighten herself up. "Now..." she said, sniffling, and rubbing her eyes... "why don't you bring me a flower or two, and I'll show you what I was doing before."

Criostail listened to the advice Dresiedi gave her to treasure her youth gravely. She was sure that one day, she would pass the advice to someone else. She smiled at and squeezed Dresiedi's hands before she went to pick some flowers.
As she went to a nearby field to pick some flowers, she noticed a wild rose. The soft reddish colours reminded her of Dresieidi, and she decided to pluck it for Dresiedi. Upon closer inspection, the heart of the rose was a deep maroon colour and the tip of the petals were tinged with a deep purple.
She picked a few daisies and buttercups before returning to Dresiedi. Handing the daisies and buttercups to Dresiedi, she smiled. "I got you something special." She said shyly. She concentrated and tried to perform a spell that would preserve the rose forever. It worked perfectly. Beaming, she offered the rose to Dresiedi.

Dresiedi waited patiently as her new friend went out to pluck up some wildflowers. She picked at a few blades of grass, pinching them between her fingers and making small wisps of dark smoke, then dropping the blades of grass on the ground. She hummed to herself, a dark and sorrowful melody she had been known to sing more joyfully in the past.
She looked up as Criostial returned, taking the daisies and daffodils from her. "Something special? What's that? You surely didn't have time to do more than pick a few...." She was speechless as Criostial unvieled the rose- whose colors almost perfectly mimicked those of her wings. She took it, still speechless, and smiled. "Oh... Thank you."
She ran her fingers over the petals gently, then set it in her lap. "No one... has given me a gift in such a long time.... Thank you, Criostial."
"Now..." Dresiedi picked up one of the more mundane flowers brought to her. She concentrated- and it withered before their eyes. Her heartgem glowed brilliantly in the shade of the willow tree. Then, Dresiedi opened her hand, and above it, like a shadowy smoke, rose the darkness.
Dresiedi smiled and continued to concentrate- before she knew it, the darkness enveloped the inside of the shade of the tree, so that it seemed like they were in a room with no light coming through. "Don't be scared, Criostial. i'm creating it." Dresiedi closed her hand, and the darkness began to wane- soon, they were sitting once again in the shade of the willow.
"I guess it works better when I'm happy." Dresiedi smiled.

Criostail gasped as the darkness began to surround them. It extended to the fringe of where the shadow of the willow tree fell, and stopped. The darkness grew thicker and more compressive before it began to wane.
Darkness had never bothered Criostail, in fact, she loved going out at night to see the stars shine. There was something about stars that made her happy.
As the darkness faded, she saw Dresiedi's smile and heard her comment.
"Happiness always benefits another, and it is a gift that people have forgotten to give. " She said, smiling simply. She sat down beside Dresiedi, content to spend the rest of the day with her new friend under the willow tree.
"So how do you actually create the darkness?" Criostail asked curiously, her head slightly tilted. She ran her fingers over the grass under the tree, feeling the blades tickle her palm.

Dresiedi chuckled in spite of herself. She had to remember that Criostial was still young and learning her own gifts.
"There is a magic inside of each of us, young one. We can use our magic to borrow energy from different forces of life in order to use our magic for special powers that are different for each of us. When times were better, I use to be able to borrow energy from just about anything and create a radiant light. Now..." Dresiedi paused, trying not to let the past catch up with her again. She took a deep breath, and looked back at Criostial.
"Now... that times are different. And some unfortunate circumstances came through in my life, namely, a great loss of someone I loved very much. I can only create darkness, for there is no more light in my heart, no more joy in my soul." She gave a weak smile, and picked a blade of grass. Placing it between two fingers, she concentrated, and her heartgem glowed with the energy collected there.
"You see- I borrowed the energy of life from this blade of grass." She snapped her fingers, and a bit of darkness appeared and dissolved, like a wisp of smoke. "And turned it into a bit of darkness. But it never stays... and we all must borrow energy again. It's a sort of give and take process."
Dresiedi looked at the innocent heartgem before her and smiled. "You'll be using your powers soon, and learning to harness energy. I know it. And I'm sure your gifts will be beautiful. Have you ever tried to use your powers before?"

Criostail listened, fascinated. When Dresiedi asked her about her gifts, she shook her head.
"I can see a person's aura, and sense what they feel, but not very much else." She said quietly. "I never tried to use my powers." She added softly. A fragment of a dream danced tantalizingly at the edges of her mind and disappeared before she could catch it.
Whenever she saw someone developing their powers, especially her peers, she had this odd sense of deja vu. It was as if she had lived another life before this, watching everyone develop powers while she had none. She sighed quietly and idly began to pick a few blades of grass to braid.

"Auras, you say? Hmm." Dresiedi wondered what Criostial must have felt coming from her when she had stumbled in on her earlier in the day. Dresiedi's emotions had been so carefully guarded and harsh since Kristian had died... She wondered what kind of mess her own aura and feeling had been.
Dresiedi saw a bit of hurt in her friend's eyes when she mentioned trying to use her powers, and couldn't help but feel saddened herself. She didn't want this happy and lighthearted heartgem to be sad. She ran a hand delicately over the heartgem's hair. "Don't worry, dear. I'm sure your powers will come soon enough. Some of us don't get our powers until later on, and some don't fully understand how to harness them for their entire lives. You just need to work at it and be diligent..." Dresiedi put on a reassuring smile.
"...and have a little faith." She dotted Criostial on the nose with her finger playfully, hoping the little act of impishness may prompt her friend to cheer up a bit. She picked a wisp of willow branch from the tree and began intertwining it in Criostial's hair, humming softly, a sad song from the past. Something which she hadn't done for years and years- hummed. It made her own heart lighten a little.
