Mulan, known in Chinese as Hua Mulan (花木蘭), is a 2009 Chinese film starring Zhao Wei as the legendary Hua Mulan. The director, Jingle Ma, has explained that this movie is vastly different from the Disney cartoon film and adheres more to his imagination. Zhao Wei was cast by Ma as the titular Mulan in favor of actresses Zhang Ziyi, Michelle Yeoh, and Liu Yifei, who were reportedly also considered for the role.
The film also features a cameo by the Russian singer, Vitas, who also helped publicize the film by providing a song entitled "Beneath the Glory" for the film score.

I started tearing up when I realized that Wentai had "died". I was so shocked. Then when Tiger died, I just broke out weeping. That song they sing is just... beautiful!

I dont usually cry in movies, but this one was an exception. i cried a little when Wentai died, my eyes got misty when Tiger died, but, what really had me weeping is when they all started singing. If you havent seen it yet, Watch it! its great!

It's all part of the drama of it all. Someone HAS to die. I'm just sad it was Tiger. He was so loyal to her, such a good friend. Everyone was loyal to her, too. I'm just sad that they had to die like that.
On a happier note (well maybe not) they ending was refreshing. I guess it was sad, too, that Wentai had to marry the Rouran princess and not Mulan, but it was refreshing. A true tale of sacrificial love. It couldn't have come at a better time. I'd been having troubles, and it really wrenched me free of them. That's partly why it's really high up on my list of favorite movies, and the top of my list of the best movies of 2009.
