"From stately trees the fair leaves fell in abundance fluttering down to the ground, and the fruit fell to the ground because Boreas (North Wind) blew very fiercely at the behest of Zeus; the deep seethed and all things trembed at his blast : the strength of mankind consumed away and the fruit failed in the season of spring."

Boreas; god of the northern wind and bringer of winter

User Image

Boreas was the god of the northern wind, tied with winter. He was the eldest of the four Anemoi, but also the grumpiest. Boreas was known to attack the Greek's ships.

As the door to the Boreas cabin swung open, the warm winds of spring blew through the opening. However, once Gabe had stepped in several feet, he turned quickly to close the door. The cold and icy room was again taken by the frigid air that enveloped the entire cabin.

"Home sweet home...I suppose." Gabe said quietly aloud to himself. He walked over to his bunk, grabbed some change of clothes, got a lukewarm shower, then dried and changed into some more comfortable clothes. He slumped over to his bed, took a small leap and landed with a plop as he hit his bed. He tried to take a nap, but the brightness of Apollo's chariot hindered his ability to sleep, so he got back up and walked out onto the camp grounds, trying to find something to do.

Troy opened the door and stepped inside. It was like walking into a refrigerator, it was perfect. He lied down on his bed and sighed. He rolled over and took a deep breath, glad he was able to see his breath in the frigid temperature of the cabin. He began to blow rings, manipulating the temperature of the area around his breath. After a minute or so he got bored and decided to take a nap.

>>..Old Boreas and the sun, one day
Espied a traveller on his way,
Whose dress did happily provide
Against whatever might betide...>>

»Walking into the blistering cold cabin, Gabe took off his boots and gloves and placed them neatly next to his bed, atop the drawer that showcased a picture of his mother and himself when he was a young boy and a necklace that she had given to him many years ago.

As he slowly walked around the cabin to his bed, he noticed Troy resting peacefully in his bed. Gabe smiled, and for an instant had contemplated playing a prank on him, mainly for a quick laugh, but opted to leave him resting for the time being. He ran his hand threw his hair, still damp from the swim he had with Adonia and Shania, and tried to rearrange it into his usual hair style though he failed horribly.

He let out a slight sigh, then plopped down onto his bed and stared blankly into the icy ceiling that hovered just over seven feet above him. He simply laid there for a few short moments, but to Gabriel, he thought he had laid there for a few hours.

As the day drawled closer to an end, he remembered that he had a plan that night with Adonia, so he got up and ran to the shower. Sluicing his sweaty and salty hair, he let the lukewarm water run down his body as he stood almost motionless the entire time, save to scrub his body and hair. Stepping out, he wrapped himself up in a dark blue towel, depicting the snow-flake like symbol of Boreas that was embroidered in the center. He throughly dried himself and then casually walked out into the cabin, popping his head outside the doorway before he left to ensure that his brother was not awake and that no girl was inside the cabin.

He threw on some underwear and a pair of comfortable shorts, then slung the towel over his shoulders, letting the run-off from his hair be blocked off by the towel. He then laid down on his bed and yet again, found himself staring into the ceiling dangling above him.

I am staring at the cabin's valor

Walking through camp, she walked towards the new U of cabins. The Minor Cabins. While Hephaestus was major, she rarely went around to these cabins. She went to Calypso, but either than that, none. On her belt, she had Gabe's sword in a belt. The cover made sure it wasn't tainted. She didn't want to go back to the armory, or to her cabin, so that she could have to re-sharpen it. Unlike most people, she was lame at running. Literally. As she had been a daughter of Hephaestus, she had never really ran fast. Limping through camp, sword at her side, she would take her time. Supposedly, coming from Gabe, the sword was quite precious. She could feel it in the touch of the blade, a gift she had from her father. It was just a small feeling of the sword, and she could understand what it had gone through, why it was in such shape. In her mind, she wanted Kevin to maybe learn the talent, too.

Passing cabins, she counted each. She stared at each symbol that was on the front. That made her feel a touch of envy. Why was her cabin have a hammer, while there were things like blasts of wind, pearls, fishes, and scales. She brushed her hair from her face, inspecting each cabin. They were all so mystifying. The Iris and Eos cabins made her smile happily, while the darker ones like Eris and Nemesis made her shiver. Their atmospheres could change people so much. She wanted to enter the cabins, but she knew it was not really allowed. And probably, Nemesis children wouldn't like her in the cabin. As her father was the god of crafts, tying very closely to Prometheus, she loved the design of the cabins. Making her sigh even more. Lyra had her mallet in her hand. It was plain, and didn't compare much to Hephaestus' mighty hammer. The one that hang as the ninth cabin's symbol.

Lyra finished the line, and found herself at the doorstep of the Boreas cabin. For a few minutes, she stood there. A few campers gave her weird looks, and said things under their breaths. She heard them. "What is she doing here? Ain't she a daughter of the forge god?" they asked each other. IT made her wince. The forge god. Not the first time her father had been called that. Smiling sheepishly and waving just the same, she felt weird once more. She wasn't very sociable, like her whole group. Maybe Natalia was different, but most of the girls preferred to stay by themselves. She looked around for awhile, trying to soak in the feeling of Boreas' cabin. It had the cold appeal to it, the feeling that made her shiver. It was a wonderful spring day, and around this place it felt like Mt. Everest. Maybe that's where Boreas stays nowadays as his palace. she thought. The Western civilization created a lot of these thoughts.

She cleared her throat, and put her closed fist to the door. Just for a second, as the cold sensitization ran through her body, chilling her. She shivered, and closed her sweater around her body. Lyra tried once more, knocking hard. Hopefully Gabe could hear. Sighing, she tried once more. That time was loud and sort of echoed through the Minor cabins. A Nemesis boy exited his cabin to stare at her with a weird look. She mouthed sorry to the boy, who had been sleeping. His eyes were obviously drowsy and tired looking. Had she pounded so loudly? It didn't seem that loud. Says person who is used to hearing loud bangs in the armory. she told herself. Again Lyra cleared her throat, and put her grip on the mallet even tighter. "Um, Gabe? You're sword is done..."she told him, hoping he could listen. She used the ice around the cabin to make sure she looked okay enough. She breathed in and out, her breath visual.

With bright-eyed Athene he taught men glorious crafts throughout the world,--men who before used to dwell caves in the mountains like wild beasts. But now that they have learned crafts through Hephaistos the famed worker (klytotekhnes), easily they live a peaceful life in their own houses the whole year round. Be gracious, Hephaistos, and grant me success and prosperity!"

»At the sound of a sudden knock, Gabe finally broke free of his entrancement upon the frozen ceiling above him. He rolled his hand over the back of his neck and rotated it around. The sound of several cracks could be heard. He stood up, and started towards the door. "Be right there." he replied, his voice a bit groggy from lying on the bed that whole time.

He gripped the handle to the door and it swung open. To his surprise, Lyra was standing before him, Frostmourne placed at her side while kept up in a cloth sheath to keep it protected. He smiled as she stood before him, and he took another step forward.

"Oh, hey Lyra. That was incredibly fast! You already finished the modifications to Frostmourne?" he began to shoot off, excited to see that she had already completed his sword's upgrade. Before she had a chance to answer his previous questions, he went on.

"Well, did you have fun making the upgrade? I hope my father's blade was as much a gift for you to work with as it was for me to use in battle." at that moment, he had yet to realize one important thing.

He had no shirt on. Thus, the countless scars the riddled and crossed his body were clearly visible to Lyra, still standing in front of him at the entranceway to the Boreas cabin. His scars, unbeknown to all the other campers, were neither left from battle with a creature nor the marks left over from training. They were wounds his stepfather had given him from the countless fights they had engaged in while his mother was sick with cancer. He had never told anyone this, of course, but with Lyra clearly seeing them, today might be the day that he tells his story.

I am busy making swords!

She smiled as he opened the door, but soon took her attention away. She took out the sword, and allowed him to inspect it. Her eyes were stuck on her masterpiece. She had to admit, she had done quite well on it. She brushed a hair behind her ear, which to most people she knew well meant she was uncomfortable. She bit her lips, and her grip tightened. Why? Because the guy was topless! She didn't want to look much, because she hadn't really seen much topless men before. Some at the beach when she was at the beach, but this guy wasn't doing it intentionally. She hoped. She rubbed her knuckles that grip her hammer, and wondered if he would go back to his cabin to put on a shirt. Which in her opinion, would be very good. One thing that entered her mind was the cold. If she was cold, wearing a sweater and a t-shirt, why wasn't he cold himself?

She snapped her mind away, trying to answer the questions he was asking. Though it was hard to look at him, as the shirt off was quite distracting. "It was awesome, really. We got some things from the Argo from our dad into the armory a few weeks ago. It was one of Beckendorf's things he wanted to get from our father. It's been taking so long."she told him, and dug in her sweater, to pull out the small journal thing. "I think you might want to read this, it's things that the Boreads wrote. I found it in the Argo box..."she mumbled, digging her hands into her pocket, seeking warmth. "I helped the hilt and the sharpened the blade, but made sure the inscriptions remained."she told him.

Then, she couldn't take it any longer. She pushed him into his cabin, and looked around for a bunk with a towel. His she hoped. Pushing him into the bed, she sat down beside him, and looked at the scars. She ran her warm hand over the scars, sometimes sticking her fingers into the insides of the scar. She followed them across his chest. They were all so very different, each a different cut. Some seemed just like a punch, others could have been a cut. Lyra hoped she couldn't find some glass shards. That had happened for her. After going along each, she looked back up at them. She took off her sweater, and showed him her cuts. They came from the volcano jump, which only Natalia knew about. She stared back up at him.

"How do you get them, Gabe? Don't hide."she told him, rolling up her other shirt arm, to show the next cut. Finally, she pulled off her leg brace, where a cover of blood was supposed to be a foot.

>>..Old Boreas and the sun, one day
Espied a traveller on his way,

»As Lyra tossed the journal his way, Gabe snagged it in mid-air. He began to take a quick glance through the pages, flipping through the endless Greek text and examining its contents with eager anticipation. He looked back up at Lyra and flushed, making a slight surprised smile at her."Wow, Lyra. Th-thanks. I really appreciate it.I can't wait to take a look at what my half-brothers went through with Jason." he took another quick look at the journal and back up again at Lyra.

He noticed something a miss, but he couldn't place what was wrong with her facial expression. He continued to comment about Lyra's joy with working on Frostmourne. "Well, I'm extremely glad you had such an amazing time while working on my weapon. And thanks for keeping the insciptions. My father apparently spent a decent amount of time making those. It's apparently the blessing of the Anemoi. Here, you deserve this, no matter what you say." he reached into his pocket and grabbed one of the sand-dollars he had snagged while at the beach with Adonia and Shania.

As Lyra caught it, she rushed in and, in a quick movement, practically tackled him onto his bed. At first, he tried to get out what that was for, but was so shocked and surprised that he couldn't get any form of verbal language out of his mouth. She then began to run her fingers over his body, which then reminded him of what was amiss. He was standing in front of her with no shirt on. He felt like such a fool.

She must have been so uncomfortable! ran through his head, but now that she was feeling the countless scars across his body, he doubted that she cared anymore. He simply laid there, her warm hands scrolling across his cold body, which gave him a sort of ticklish sensation across his chest. As she began to question him about his scars, all he could do was sit there quietly. Finally, after several seconds of thinking, he gazed deeply into Lyra's eyes, and made a rash decision. He was going to come clean.

"Look, Lyra. Like most of the demi-gods here, I used to have a family. My mother, who meant everything in the world to me, and then my stepfather. Me and him never got along, simply because he treated my mother and myself like trash, and never gave my mother the respect she deserved for taking him into our family. Me and him...we would get into fights all the time. Pushing and shoving eventually lead to blows, and from their it only got worse. Before my mother got sick, she would step in and stop us from fighting, then take me out for ice cream to calm me down." he paused for a moment, a few cold tears forming in his eyes that practically froze the moment they strayed from his eye. He wiped it away, then continued on.

"Once she got sick, she couldn't stop the fighting anymore. He would shove me into walls and chairs, then I would push him into doors and almost down a staircase. After fists couldn't keep me down, he resorted to using anything he could get his dirty, cheap hands one. Chair pieces, glass, anything. That's how I got all these scars. Most of them are from the time he slammed me through the glass table we had set up in our dinning room." he finally stopped, looking down at the several larger scars that went across his chest and wrapped almost completely around to his back.

He looked back at Lyra, who was looking intensely at him. He then looked down at her arms and leg, and noticed the large scars she had developed as well. He reached out suddenly, and gently rubbed his cold, icy hand across her leg. He saw how it was smaller than her other leg, either from the fracture she had or from the length of time she had been wearing that leg brace. He then turned back to her, and raised himself back up against his bed, her hand still laying against his scars scattered across his chest. With a friendly yet intense look in his eyes, he questioned Lyra on what had happened to her.

"Enough about my scars, what happened to you? Was this from a battle? A sever fall? Your leg..." he paused, unsure of how to go on.

I am looking depressed

She nodded as he was talking about how he got his scars. Many people were like that, many people had terrible lives. Many had been tortured, hit, and beaten. Some people never grew up with their parents, and had been in orphanages. Most half-bloods had scars, either from monsters or just trekking into camp. She ran a hang through her hair, imagining what Gabe must have gone through. A lot, she guessed. Then he turned around, and she could see the larger scars on the back. She refused the wanting feel to touch them. Upon touching his front scars, she had received this weird tingling. Something like beating your first monster, or finding your godly parent. It wasn't just Olympian anymore, she was sure of that now.

As his tale ended, he started to run his icy hands down from her open leg. She rarely let it out for people to see, not even her doctor had seen it. She had hoped that the ambrosia would help it, but it hadn't really been doing it's job. The weird feeling ran through her body, and she wondered if the touch would freeze her blood. It was currently dripping into the empty bronze leg brace, which she had left standing. It came up to around her knee, and all of that part of her body was soaked with blood. Her upper leg had scars, and the whole bone didn't seem in the right place. She compared it to the other one, to show the damage that had happened to it. Brushing a hair from her face so that her brown eyes could get a better look at the carnage, she sighed. It felt weird to tell him what happened in his past life, as Natalia only knew a bit. They all only knew a bit..

"I was born in London, England, by a woman named Maria Jones. She had one daughter, Daisy Flight, a daughter of Hermes. Her death was unknown, but it had something to do with the two gods that fell for her. Upon her death, my sister changed her name to Rhea. I was named Lyra after the constellation, which she used as a guide. She followed Ursula Major, and found a son of Eros, Maverick, to get care of us. She was then attacked by some empousai, but won. The hunters, who passed by, where impressed, and asked if she wanted to join. Going into the tent was the last time I ever saw her. Thing is, she actually joined the Amazon warriors, and died after an attack of a drakon."she told him, and sighed.

"So, Maverick got care of me, I guess. I was found by a cyclops, and almost died. But the blacksmith had something up his sleeve, Oplizo. It means armor in Ancient Greek. Anyways, after the death of the cyclops, he handed the sword to me as my protection. I used it well, and soon found myself taking a trip to my father. In Lemnos, Greece. A small island. I found him in his volcano, but he warned me to go to camp, immediately. Somehow I didn't think I was important, and I wanted to know what happened to my mother. With a sigh he just left me in a column of fire, as if he didn't want to care about me. I found it disrespectful, but I lived with it.."she said. She ruffled up her hair, before continuing. "A few days after coming to camp, I didn't feel right. I didn't connect to my father that much. I needed to, I concluded. So I did the stupidest thing in my life. I went up to Mt. Helen, hoping my father was close, and jumped off. I was trying to imitate the fall Hephaestus had when he was a newborn. I crashed into the sea, where I broke both legs. Some ambrosia and hospital fixed the one, but the other, it wasn't able to be fixed. I crafted a metal brace so that no one could see."she explained to him.

"Sing, clear-voiced Mousa, of Hephaistos famed for inventions (klytometis). »"Ah...I see." That was all he managed to get out. He was completely unsure of what to say. Maybe I'm sorry that happened to you?To him, that would make no sense.

He did feel bad for such an event to occur to Lyra, but much like other demi-gods here, they all had their past history and mistake. Himself included. All he could manage to do was look at Lyra will a sort of comforting look, trying to get across without saying it, that he was sorry for such things to happen to her.

With a bit of apprehention, he laid his hand on her bad leg, though it was covered with blood, and gently rubbed it. He gazed down at her leg as he scrolled over it, examining the scars along her leg. Finally, after several moments of him being quite, he managed to speak.

"I'm...sorry about what happened to you leg. And, I know you're going to say 'Don't be. It was my own stupid fault' but still. It was my own stupid fault for trying to fight my step-dad, who was easily twice or even three times my size. Still, I wish...I wish I could just..." he paused as he finished. He felt a bit of sudden rage run through him, his eyes turning a dark blue color that rippled with an enraged aura.

He averted his eyes to the side so Lyra could not see, or feel, the malicious thoughts that suddenly burst into his head. He could not stand his stepfather, but lately, the slightest thing seemed to be setting off his anger. This troubled him, unsure if it was simply a release of bent up anger against his stepfather, or if it was the true nature of being a son of Boreas, finally beginning to take affect.

Troy feigned sleep but kept an eye open, listening rather carefully, not wanting to fall out of the loop. He decided he might as well make his state of being, as awake rather than sleeping, known at this point rather than later. He sat up and shifted so he was sitting with his legs hanging over the side of the bed.

"So...what did I miss?" He asked, rubbing the "sleep" from his eyes. Nothing. Nothing at all. He thought to himself. He faced his hand to the window, and with a flick of his wrist a gust of wind blew the window open.

He yawned and stood up, leaning against the wall. His eyes darted across the room from Gabe, to Lyra, to the open window, to the walls, then back to Gabe. He wished he had a story to tell to some extent, but at the same time, he knew that it was probably better off that he didn't have one, because hardships are still hardships, whether they make entertaining stories or not.
