introduce half of their meaningful characters later than halfway through the series.
In deathnote, Near, Mello, Mikami, and a few more I think arnt introduced until very late in the series. In Naruto, the akuske (or however you spell it) are not introduced for a long time. In bleach, you dont know anybody until youre at the soul society arc, and their are still far more people in the hueco mundo arc.
I just find it annoying when my best friends are further in the series than I am, and I dont have a clue what they are talking about. Like, I dont think I will finish Naruto, and all I hear in conversation is about the akaske. Who the hell are these petifiles anyways?!?! I mean, I'm up to about the episode where they meet them, doesnt that count for something???

That's because a stereotype of Shounen genre mangas and animes is that they last FOREVER. So in order to keep you hooked, they always introduce more characters and stuff :/

It doesn't really bother me, honestly. I think it's rather silly to have every single important character introduced at the same time.

While I like when the introduction of major characters is staggered, it also shouldn't just be for the big finale. When that happens, the problem arises that you feel a sense of loyalty to the first group. Then comes fan wars between those who like the new people over the older ones. Jeez, now I'm on a tangent.

I have to admit, I like like it when they're introducing new characters later in the story. it keeps it new and gives the plot a strong base already before they go and let you know who everybody is. But I REALLY hate it when people ruin it by constantly talking about it.

Its never really bothered me. It did at first, a little bit, especially when my friends acted like they knew everything and I didnt but actually in alot of my stories (they go on forever) there are more and more characters introduced as we go. (Its a dual project hence the 'we') But now it doesnt bother me. It was just slightly annoying first. Now I hardly watch Anime but still love it. I love it when new characters come in. Gives a change, and mixes things up, and builds suspense. emo

Raftelfan That's because a stereotype of Shounen genre mangas and animes is that they last FOREVER. So in order to keep you hooked, they always introduce more characters and stuff :/ This is true. I don't know why they need to have 100-something episodes with lots of filler arcs. Case in point, Yu-Gi-Oh. There has to be a new villain or new allies every season, which makes sense but after a while I just want it to end.
Or Pokémon. Pokémon is pretty darn guilty of that. I can't keep up with the amount of Pokémon they keep churning out.
