Unable to sleep and not wanting to disturb her mate, Ashy padded from the den soundlessly, taking in the soft, crisp air of the forest. A smile pulled at her maw when she could feel a cold wetness on her paw-pads. Snow. Gazing lovingly into the den before she went on her way, the crimson teen weaved through the trees, with her head tilted back while she peered at the stars though the openings in the tree leaves and branches. She didn't have any friends to howl for for company, and she didn't much want any. It was too much effort to make them, in her opinion. If it happened, so be it. If it didn't, that was fine too.

Grimshaw sniffed the ground a little. He knew that those within his pack have fallen asleep for the night, and now here he was, sniffing around to make sure that nothing dangerous was around the den. The breath of air that he had let out of his open mouth was noticable, as maroon eyes darted back and forth. The frosty air was not for his liking, the male prefered the warm summer air, but not even he himself could change the weather. Black ears twitched at every sound that was made, the male was alert, but yet he also wanted to get away from the bronze colored wolf that tortured him daily. With a shake of his head, Grimshaw slowly headed forward. Maybe the parts of forest ahead would calm him.
With a small sigh, the black and gray wolf continued forward. He really did not want to go futher from his pack, but anything to get away from Tahoma was a bonus for him.

Without warning, as a snowdrift came into view, Ashy began to bound toward it, and dove in, head first. Only, it wasn't a snowdrift. Ashy had, once again, plowed right into a hill, only covered with snow, and hurt her head. With a grunt, Ashy blinked hard a few times to make the spots go away, and looked around, crawling to the top of the hill. Deciding that nothing was around, Ashy had flopped onto her back and began rolling around in the snow, wagging her tail and staring up at the star-dotted sky. Raising her head, Ashy looked around; having caught a smell of another wolf. Her hackles rose almost immediately, but she slicked them back down, still on her guard, and sat up - covered in a thick layer of powdery snow - to look around some more. Just like when she was a pup with Zack, she still explored where she shouldn't. And just like when she was a pup, she always regretted it.

With a sneeze, Grimshaw continued his small journey up the hill, sliding down a few times, the male cursed underneath his breath as he tried to get his barings. Proof that winter was, in fact, his worse enemy. ((I just got writers block. ))

Hearing a few curses, Ashy looked down the side of the hill, and made a small grunt-whine, pawing at the ground. With her back blanketed in white frost, Ashy asked, "Who's there?" starting to back up faintly, till she felt the snow beneath her to make her paw slip backwards. Letting out a soft, short yelp, Ashy shook her head as if to clear it, and thought about calling for Jay.

Panting rather heavily, Grimshaw had finally made it towards the top. Few trees were infront of him, but they did nothing to hide the whimpering voice, asking who was there. A female? He thought to himself, his maroon eyes scanned the vast area. Though the veiw showed nothing, the voice stated other wise. Blinking a little, the male slowly padded his way through the trees, a sneer was evident upon his maw.
He distasted trees at night, they did nothing but hide things from those who were looking. "There is nothing to fear," he stated, as he slowly walked out from within the vast maze of trees. "I will not harm you, my name is Grimshaw." A small laugh escaped him as he sat down, "though," a small grin was evident as he scratched his neck. "My friends call me Grim."

This had reminded her of the time before she had been reunited with her Fa; when a rabid, giant wolf was after a meal. Only that was daytime. Nighttime, was so much worse; when you couldn't see what you were fighting. She had eventually backed up again, and slid down the slope on her belly; making her fur completely white, except for patches of dark red and light black, and her muzzle.
While she loved the night, and especially the snow, Ashy didn't like new encounters. Especially not when she was alone. Though when a calm voice reassured her of that, Ashy let her fear drift away, as she sat down, and loudly shook the snow from her fur. "I'm Ashy." was all she had to respond with; still shy and distant of strangers.

Grimshaw watched as the female, now known as Ashy, back up upon her belly only to slide down the slope. Slowly, the male made his way towards the slope where the female had slid down. Maroon eyes blinked rapidly as he peered down, and cocked his head to the left. Grimshaw was rather confused, he was use to others standing their ground no matter what time of day it was. Even the older females within his misfit pack stood up, but then again, they were not shy.
A small sneeze escaped through his nose. "Well Ashy," he laughed slightly as he watched her shake the snow off her fur. "You should not fear me; I will not harm you in any way." He nodded at his own statement. No later did Grimshaw follow Ashy down the slope, but instead of sliding down his belly -which looked rather easy to him- the male slid down on all four paws, which was not easy to do. He ended up losing his balance which made him fall face first into the snow at the bottom of the hill. Every part of him was covered in snow; well the only part that was visible was the sun like design on his hind leg.
A few curses slipped through his demeanor, oh how he hated snow. All it ever did was stick to ones coat and padding of the feet, now when he would go home, the male would be gnawing at his paws just to get the snow off his feet. With another mumbling of un-choice words, Grimshaw sat up and began to shake the snow off, or at least he tried to.

Relived at the slowness he took, Ashy really felt as though there was no threat from this new male that had appeared on her adventure. That did not mean, however, that she wasn't still wary, and didn't still want to call out to her Fa, or her mate, to come and help protect her. 'No...I can handle things on my own..' she thought with pride and bravery, but still desidred the companionship. Deciding that she should make a new companion instead gave Ashy a little more courage of the stranger, though his apparent confusion, confused her. While normally the wolf would hold her ground, against a strong-looking adult, and at night, made her edge rise.
Wondering about the sneeze, whether it was a snort of disapproval, or something else, she looked up at him with wonder in her light blue eyes. Again feeling reassured with his strong, sincere voice, she nodded back, and was able to stand her ground while watching him down the slope. Trying to contain a giggle, she soon found it hard to do, and let one fly, before silencing it quickly, for fear of being rude. Intrigued by the marking, Ashy decided against questioning it, and waited for him to get up.
Frowning at his obvious distaste for the snow, the crimson wolf only listened to his words with a scowl. She didn't mind them, but couldn't resist the curiosity to ask, "Why do you hate the snow?" Seeing nothing but a joyful winter playland in it herself.

Maroon eyes blinked rapidly, as he heard the female wolf laugh as well as asking him why he hated snow. He could not help but to blink once more. Why did he hate it? Well it was obvious was it not? How could one not hate feeling the cold between their paddings? Or what about staying dry?
Shaking his head, Grimshaw looked over at the female and smirked just a little. "Can one not enjoy being dry?" He asked with a small hint of humor. With a tilt to the left side of his head, the male looked up at the cloudy stars over head. "Well," his baratone voice never pitched any higher than the young ones within his back. "I always prefered the dryness over the cold and wet."
It was true, the male always stayed under the covers that the trees provided when the rain seasons came, but was always out and about when the seasons were dry. "Mind me asking," he never went any further, waiting for the female to answer him.

Ears going back slightly as he just blinked as though she were stupid for asking, she tipped her head again at him, wondering for a moment whether he was going to make for a reply to her inquiry at all. Had the question offended him? She didn't see how it could have, and with the thought, Ashy felt a little tongue of flame lap at her mind, as if to spark rage.
Hearing him speak doused the flame, as did his smirk, "The snow is not like water, though...it's not really...wet." Knowing that that didn't make much sense, she quickly put in, "Not like water, at least...I don't really notice.." Following his gaze to the stars, she took her attention to him once more as he spoke, and chuckled faintly. She never really had those complaints about the joyous, white land before her.
In the summer ehat, she baked, so she had something against warm weather. That, and the snow was always something for her to play in, romp around in, roll in, and it made for great tracking for hunts! Her excitement was drained, however, when his coarse voice broke the air again. Tipping her head at him, she asked, "What?" curious, and with no trace of the slightest irritation, as she sat down, relaxed.

The male blinked rapdily at her statement about the snow. A small smile appeared, as he nodded his understanding towards the female. She is indeed a young one, he thought to himself, as he looked back at her. It took a few minutes before he heard the reply. Hearing no irration within her voice, Grimshaw looked back up at the sky and he could not help but to ask her. "Do you always travel alone at night?"
True, the male had no right to even ask that question, for the fact that the female was not pack. But he could not help himself, he was raised that females should be cherished and be well taken care of. Or so his father said. Be they cruel or kind, one should always show compassion, and that was what he was trying to be rude. Even if the question came off a bit rude, the male just thought that she should at least have a companion during her travels. After all, who wouldn't like the company of another wolf?

A sheepish smile began to form on Ashy's lips while the male known as Grimshaw blinked stupidly at her, before her embarassment disappeared when he nodded. Hearing his words put another tilt in her head; she couldn't understand why anyone would get angry over being asked such a simple thing. Replying with, "Well...Usually I get Jay to come with me, unless he's sleeping.." Another sheepish grin formed on her face when she said the next part, one ear going back like the mischeivious little pup she always was, "Or unless Fa catches me sneaking out..." her shoulders came up, as if to hide her face him them, though she made no gesture to do so.
Ashy was hardly aware of the fact that she was a female - after her escape from her buried past, she had had the mindset that she could face the world alone and that she didn't need anyone to protect her. She could play just as hard as the guys, and joke around with them, too. Therefore, Ashy didn't consider herself a female, and couldn't understand the basis for his question, other than a mere curiosity.
