Mon Essentiel

Characters:
Seychelles/France

Time:
Present

Brief Summary:

Well Seychelles's economy is melting down. Her boss and France's boss have now made an agreement that France will be aiding her by supplying her with money. Much to her distress. What's worse is that her boss isn't giving her a say!

Well for the bosses convenience they now live in the same house, France's, to be specific. Will their overly affectionate "father" and shy "daughter" relation ship turn into something else? Or will it stay the same?

Seychelles

Seychelles was quickly dumped off in front of France's house and watched in shock as her boss drove speedily away. "What! I don't get a say in this you stupid jerk!" She shouted at the barley visible car. Well if that's how it was, no more misses nice Angélique. Her boss would suffer for her not getting a say.

She sighed as she walked up to France's door. Seychelles didn't mind France, its just, she hated relying on others to fix her problems. Hopefully France wouldn't try to give her too many fancy things. It would make her feel like she needed to give him something back.

Seychelles stood in front of the door one hand raised to knock on it. Oh how she didn't want to knock, but she would feel stupid if she just stood there and didn't do anything. So she knocked her knuckles against the door. Maybe France was out? If he was that meant she would have to sit there with a suitcase and die of nothing to do.

France

It had been raining quite frequently as of late in Paris, though today the sun was shining and the sky was free of any signs of clouds or gloom. All in all, it was a beautiful day to be out and about. These were the very thoughts of one, Francis Bonnefoy, the personification of France itself, as he made his way down the street, groceries in hand from his trip to the market. He stopped every now and then for a friendly chat or some light flirting, as was a normal occurrence for the Nation of love.

Recently, the economy had been slowly recovering from its previous financial slump and he was feeling much better than he had only a short while ago. Paris was just overflowing with its old brightness and love of life that it had before the hard times. Not that France was always in Paris; no, he had many homes spanning throughout his country however this, the heart of France, would always be his main home and his favourite.

He came into the driveway to his house, reaching into his pocket for his keys as he balanced the grocery bags in his hands. It didn’t seem to want to cooperate, and he turned his attention to his unrelenting pocket as he dug for the offending key as he continued to make his way towards his front door. Finally catching a hold of it, France smiled triumphantly, pulling it up before his eyes and, for the first time, noticing that he had a pretty little visitor waiting on his doorstep.

He blinked, pleasantly surprised with this new development and a warm smile made its way to his face. It wasn’t often that his former colony came to visit him, and her sudden appearance was a nice change. Forgetting about his groceries and his key, he dropped them to the floor, making sure not to damage anything, before moving forward and scooping the young Nation into his arms in a loving embrace.

“Seychelles! Ma petite fleur, it has been much too long! Papa has missed you so much! What brings you all the way out here?” He cooed, nuzzling the smaller Nations hair affectionately. It was good to see her.

"B-bonjour France." Seychelles looked up at him and then quickly at the ground, she hated the reason why she was here. "C'est mon économie, our bosses have agreed that you will be sending me money, to help fuel the economic spiral that is my nation." She disliked using other people, especially France, it felt wrong to rely on his money only.

She quickly broke out of his embrace and lifted up her large, nearly exploding suitcase. "They've agreed that I will be spending the time being with you in your house." Her voice was flat as she spoke, it seemed as if she had no life in her at the moment. Oh how she hated her boss.

"I'm sorry for imposing on you, especially for the reason, I really had tried hard not to get into such debt." Seychelles said frantically. Best to get out apologies now then later, right?

France

France frowned when the smaller Nation looked down, explaining the reason for her apparently more than just a visit. He didn't know things had gotten so bad for her. Now that he thought about it, they hadn't talked for quite a while, and it made him feel a slight bit of guilt for not being there for her. He had practically raised her, and now he didn't know how she was doing; he hadn't known for a while. His poor Seychelles was hurting.

"Angelique...you have no reason to be sorry. You know I would help you no matter what problems you may be faced with. You only needed to ask; and you have. You may stay for as long as you need to." He gave her a warm smile, hoping to chase away the guilt he saw in her eyes, and the awkwardness he saw in her actions. She should not have to be so formal with him.

Taking the large suitcase she presented to him from her hands, he kissed her forehead, gesturing to the door. "Come, cheri. Inside. You look famished. I will prepare you something worthy of your tastes." He said, a bright smile adorning his face. To be honest, he'd been a little lonely lately. Perhaps this would be beneficial to both of them.

"M-merci!" She loved his cooking, it was definitely the best. She gladly walked through the door, any appearance of discomfort gone from her face. Living with Francis wasn't a bad thing, it had been so long ago since she had even talked to him, she didn't want to feel awkward.

"Francis, I can take care if my things, you don't have to carry it for me." Angelique said quietly when she had entered the foyer. It was nice of him to help her though, but she didn't want to be too much trouble, not for any reason. It was obvious that he enjoyed seeing her, probably happy at he fact she was staying with him and not England, those two hardly ever got along. Especially when she was involved.

France

France carried his soon to be housemate's belongings into his home, only now realizing that he had dropped his groceries outside on the front steps in his haste to greet her earlier. Those poor wasted eggs. He would have to mourn the loss of them later, however. Now was the time for welcoming and joy.

He turned to look at her, smiling reassuringly. "It is no trouble at all, mon petit oiseau. And what kind of host would I be if I could not do something as simple as carrying my guest's belongings for them? Even more so, a gentleman should never leave a beautiful woman to do unnecessary manual work when he can do it for her."

It really was not trouble. They were Nations after all, and something as small as a suitcase, even a large one by human standards, was not much of a struggle for them. "So tell me, amour, do you still remember where your room is?" He grinned playfully, referring to the days when she had lived with him as a child. Though most Nations didn't know it, France was quite the sentimental man, and the room of the little girl he had once raised remained as it had been the day she left; cleaned of course, but still the same overall.

Seychelles

"Of course I remember where my room is," Seychelles said as she puffed out her cheeks, "this was my first house after all, it's not like I would forget." She happily walked away from France as she she wandered up the stairs to her bedroom. The hallway was so familiar, nothing seemed to have changed.

She opened the door quietly and smiled happily, he had saved everything in her room, even a small doll he had bought her. She walked over to her bed and sat down on the edge of it. Seychelles had loved this room so much when she was little, it held all of her her books and precious treasures. She pulled her precious doll on to her lap and brushed the china face with her fingertips, it was so familiar to her.

Seychelles rubbed at her eyes and yawned, such a long day, flying in from her homeland to the Nation of Love had been a tiresome trip. She curled on to her bed with her head on the pillows. As she closed her eyes, she clutched the doll to her chest, and fell blissfully asleep. She would take a quick nap and hopefully wake up soon.

France

France chuckled good-naturedly at Seychelle's offended look. She was so cute when she got angry, and over the smallest things too, not that she stayed that way for long. It was almost always merely annoyance or embarassment of her part. Teasing her always brought on wonderful results, especially now that she was older.

"I will call you down when dinner is ready, cheri." He called up to her as she made her way up the stairs. Hopefully her old room was still to her liking. He knew she had grown much since her colonial days and that what she liked back in those days was most likely far from what she enjoyed today however, he couldn't bring himself to change anything. That would be up to her now.

Setting her bags down at the bottom of the stairs, he decided he would take them up to her room once he'd had dinner prepared. He would be going up to call her at that time anyway, and this way she could become reaquainted with the room she would be calling her own once more for the time being.

Humming softly to himself, France went back outside, carefully retrieving his forgotten groceries from the front steps and taking them to the kitchen, where he set what he needed out for dinner, and put everything else in their rightful places. Once finished, he set to work on his future masterpiece, hoping his little flower would enjoy it after her journey here and recent troubles. She needed the break.

Seychelles

Seychelles woke up from her nap to the smell of France's delicious cooking. She rubbed at her eyes and inhaled the delicious scent. It had been such a long time since she had food that wasn't burnt around the edges, or burned to a crisp for that matter. Seychelles stood up and placed the doll back on her bed, keeping her old room as familiar as she could. She didn't know how long she would be staying and she didn't want to ruin her old beautiful room.

She walked down the stairs, letting her nose lead her back to the kitchen. So he hadn't called her, but his cooking sure had. "It smells wonderful, what are you making?"She was standing aimlessly next to an island counter top, resting her arms on the cool stone surface of the counter. Seychelles looked at France and smiled he looked so focused, it was different from the joking manner France normally had, but at the same time it seemed familiar. Maybe he had been like this when she was nothing but a baby nation.

France

France continued humming quietly as he made dinner, unaware of all else aside from the food he was preparing and the goal he had set in front of him. It wasn't to say that France was unaware, or that he did not pay attention -it was actually quite well known that France noticed a lot of things others didn't, and sometimes knew things about others even before they did.

However, at times when he was doing things he loved, France's attention could not be swayed, and he basked in the welcoming scent and feel that was his kitchen setting as he cooked. It was because of this comfortable and focused state that he did not realize that his guest awaken from her nap, or hear as she made her way down to the kitchen to take her place at the island situated in the centre of the kitchen. That is, he didn't notice until her voice broke his silent concentration.

France started at the sudden voice, turning around to meet the eyes of his former colony in quite a bit of surprise. He blinked slowly; Once. Twice. When had she gotten there? Then a sheepish smile made its way to his face as he let out a small chuckle. "Ah, forgive me, cheri. I did not hear you come in. I'm afraid I can get rather deep into my work, but you know that already..." Of course she knew. France had cooked for her many times when she was a child.

He grinned, leaning aginst the counter and tilting his head to the side. "As for our dinner, mon amour...that, I'm afraid, is a surprise. A cook cannot simply reveal his creation before it is finished." A wink. "You will see. Soon, love. Soon."

Seychelles

Seychelles puffed her cheeks out and stared at the surface of the counter. She was never good with surprises, maybe she could find a way to get out of him. "Well, what's in it? You might have put something I don't like in it." She stuck her tongue out slightly and smiled impishly. Maybe France had forgotten what she liked and disliked over time. She used to be quite the picky eater when she was young. And that habit had stuck with her for quite a while, it still came back when she was eating food that had things she wasn't familiar with.

Turning back to his cooking France's smile widened in amusement at his Seychelle's mischevious little game. She never could stand to wait, and her impatience was adorable, though France never didn't anything to speed things up for her in the past, instead finding much more happiness in intigating her wrath. She was cute when she got annoyed with him.

A small hum escaped him and he closed his eyes as if in though, bringing his hand up under his chin in a conetmplative fashion. "I don't know, cheri. I think you may be wrong..." A smirk. "After all, I never forget one's taste in food, and have more often than not been able to tell what a person will like upon first meeting. I'm sure you'll be just fine with it, if not more so."

He turned slightly to the side, raising a brow at her as if in challenge to his words. So naive, and yet so much fun. He had always welcomed this kind of banter and it seemed his love for it had rubbed off on his former colony. She'd have to try much harder if she wanted to outsmart France though.

Seychelles

Well, if it was a challenge France wanted he would get it. Racking her brain for ideas, each one that she came up with ended up with her giving up and she didn't want that. Silent treatment seemed childish, but France might get upset that she had stopped talking to him. It would be a good last resort.

She silently giggled as she came up with an idea. It wasn't brilliant, but if she could give France an idea that she liked someone's cooking better than his, he might give her a small taste. It could work, maybe.

"Well what if your food is up to par? Honestly I think Poland or even China's cooking might be better than yours. I just don't really like the flavors of french cooking anymore." She turned her around so he wouldn't be to see her face. She needed to be able to trick him, if he saw her face he would be able to tell what she was doing, she just couldn't keep the broad smile on it away. "Honestly I think you should just order something. It would be much better than having to eat your cooking.

Turning away from the food cooking on the stove, France leaned across the counter, resting his head in his cupped hand as he watched her. A playful glint lit in his eyes as he was once again witness to the many expressions that crossed her face as she thought of ways to turn things in her favour. He wondered just how far she would go to get what she wanted. France himself could get very creative when he had his mind set on something and Seychelles had always been quite the stubbourn little Nation. Most of his now grown up children had turned out as such, especially the girls. It made him think he was filling the world with mini Hungary's with how strong willed and independent they had all become. Quite the scary thought.

However, it seemed to him that most of the time his little girl underestimated him and the extent at which France could read them. He was the country of passion and love for a reason; France would be rather disappointed in himself if he could not do something as simple as read the emotions on another's face. He looked up questioningly as a quiet giggle left his new housemate; caught the light of another idea in her eyes, and knew that things were about to continue. But the objective of the game had already been revealed, and he knew his petite fille would say anything to find out what his apparently secret meal was before it was time to eat it.

He leaned forward just a little more, brow furrowing as a light frown played upon his features. "Not up to par? Why, we all know that french cuisine is known to be the best in all the world, cherie." He might have fallen for it; not the fact that his food was any less than another's, but for the fact that she specifically had uttered such words against it. However, once she'd turned away it was obvious she could not be telling the complete truth if she could not look him in the eyes. So it was all just a part of the game, non?

"Oh no, Seychelles. Ordering food is just out of the question! France does not order food. It would be absurd. However, if you truly cannot stand to eat what I have so graciously made for you with all my hard work and my own two hands, then I suppose you will just have to go hungry until I can call China or Poland to come over and feed you." He said this all with the utmost seriousness though in truth he was not serious at all. France would never resort to having another come and cook food in his home; his kitchen! But he did wonder how little Seychelles would react to his words.
