Hi all, once again I'm Jess! Anyways.

So in my brittish Literature Class, we decided to do nothing but watch Saved By The Bell. You may ask: where's the education in THAT? But the show actually did teach something. The episode we were watching was about the time this one guy asked this girl out on a date, and she was in a wheelchair. There was more to the show but that, but oh well. And when their on the date: he makes her disability a HUGE deal! But in the end: he learns that that's not right and blah blah blah.

So whats the point in posting this? To show MY opinion.

I am visually impaired, as I said in a. the title, and b. my intro on the first page. And one of my biggest pet peeves is, when people find out I have a visual condition is that they say "I'm sorry." Or "That's so sad!" Or "Poor thing." I hate those.

I do not make my visual condition out to be ahuge deal, sure I could be blind one day, but isn't that just another reason to see al that I one to? I think of my disability as almost a blessing.

Without it, i wouldn't have been able to travel to so many states on Blind school teams and meet peolpe going through the same things as me. Without my vicual condition, i wouldn't get the handicapped pass at the amusement park. Without my handicap, I wouldn't have made the friends that I have, because if I'd met them anywhere else: I'd hate them. Without my handicap: I wouldn't have a uniqueness in Job's Daughters. And without my disability: I would not be me.

People should look beyond the disability, and see the postives. See the person that lies behind it. It is in my opinion that those who have something that is lacking, vision, hearing, a limb or two, are among the strongest people. The ones that adapt at least are.

So people: stand up and don't be afraid. Your disability is not in fact a disability, but just another obstacle to overcome. Once you have, you can look in the eyes of the people who say "I'm so sorry!" And say "Don't be. It's made me the person I am today."

<3 And yes: I figured all of that out while watching Saved By the Bell! : D

YES! I agree 100%!

I have learning disabilities, and without them, I wouldn't be the person I am today! I wouldn't have learned to never give up when things get hard, and I never would have been given the chance to see just how much I can overcome when I put my mind to it!

Brava! Way to take a positive view of something other people view as a bad thing.
