Animal Crossing: City Folk
Released: 2008
System: Wii
Player(s): 1-4 Player
Story:
Just like all the other Animal Crossings before, you are just starting out in a new town and find yourself a house in "Yourtown" *or whatever you call it*. Befriend your friendly animal neighbors, catch fish and bugs, raise an orchard, and participate in all sorts of events.
Gameplay: RPG
The Towns:
This game is almost identical with the original game, bringing back cliffs. *The DS version had a flat map* A big difference is the houses that you, the character can live in. Up to four people can live in a town, but unlike the Gamecube one, they don't all appear together in one specific area. They are randomly placed all over town. Some towns may have them next to each other, while others have them scattered all over the map. The same goes for all the local businesses and neighbor homes.
The locals:
As always, most of your neighbors are a random mix of characters, but there are a few people that stay no matter what. Tom Nook who runs the store, the Tailoring Sisters, Blathers, K.K. Slider, and many of the people you saw in the DS game are back. This game also brings back those good old holiday characters back, like Jingle the Reindeer and Jack, along with a few new special characters.
Tools at your disposal:
Shovel: Use them to plant flowers and trees, dig up treasure, and even hit things with.
Fishing Rod: Catches fish, obviously.
Bug Net: Captures bugs.
Axe: Chops down trees. Watch out for the bee nests.
Watering Can: Use to bring back withered flowers and tend to red turnips. Also, I think they can help when crossbreeding plants, too. This brings some new colors into the mix.
Slingshot: Where the DS had a dual screen, the Wii version shows the balloon like the Gamecube version, barely floating over your head. When you use the slingshot, it will automatically point the camera straight up.
There are three different types of items, too: Basic, Silver, and Gold. Each one has a specific goal you'll have to perform to recieve and each does something special. *Except basic*
The City:
A brand new section of the game, here you can find some very new and different items. Go to Gracie's Store for gorgeous furniture and clothing items. *Note: They change every four months, and go on a 20% sale throughout the store on the last month.* Visit Shirley to get a new do, or even a Mii mask, which will make your face exactly like the Wii character. *Even changes your skin color to match* There's also a comdey show starring the one and only Dr. Shrunk, and get your shoes shined by Kicks outside. There's other secrets, too...
To get to the city, use Kapp'n's bus service located right next to the gate.
Other new things:
The donations have a new bonus to them: for the first 200,000 you donate, you'll get a new bridge in your town. 500,000 more *it resets to zero after each creation* will give you an awesome fountain in front of the town gate. 1 million will give you an option of two: a windmill or a lighthouse in your town! Afterwards, you can get the feathers, just like the other game.
A new design element is available. Called pro design, this allows you to customize the front, back, and both sleeves of your clothes, allowing complete customization. It costs 350 each, but if you want, you can do standard outfits which will paint all sides the same for free anytime from your custom designs.
Rating: 7/10, but only if you're into this sort of game. It's a veeeery long game, and will drive you mad after a while...
