Should handguns be banned?
This debate often occurs in the USA.
I don't own any guns because I'm clueless about how to maintain or even use them.
So often people say "Its people who shoot people, not guns."
What do you think?

This is an easy answer "no" Why ban guns? Lets see the gangs would still have guns along with every other criminal on the streets. Guns are easy to get on the streets.
I carry a gun. I have a permit also. I live in an extremely bad area and have that gun for protection. I go to the range and love to shoot and have been shooting rifles and handguns for years. I was on the rifle team at school.

I agree with Snow. I plan to own a firearm soon. I intend to get over my fear of guns and learn to use on well. I also live where crime can make you exceptionally paranoid. I'd like to be able to protect myself and my family.

my ancestors all hunted, for food.
i learned how to use a .22 when i was ten years old.
i hope we can continue to keep and use firearms; i feel safer with my friends and neighbors having guns than i would knowing that only the police and gangsters had them.

in my eyes guns should only avalable to those who know RESPONCEABILATY of a gun like those who have either been in the police milatery or those who use it on sports level/hunting
and those who don't meet the requirement should get arrested for obtaining a dangerous weapon there are a load of idiots who missuse em

AngelLovePM So often people say "Its people who shoot people, not guns." I agree with this completely. And no I don't think that handguns should be banned nor long guns. I have a handgun that I tote and I have a carrying permit for my state. I also have along with my dad, a Federal Firearms License to buy and sell firearms from wholesalers. You need to be educated on guns before you own one. You should know how to load it, how to shoot it and how to properly operate the safety on it providing there is one. Some handguns do not have a safety feature. You should also be aware of how to clean your firearm as well as how to store it and the ammunition for it. Never keep your firearm where a small child can get hold of it. Sometimes I go into areas that I feel like I need extra protection, that is when my handgun comes into play. They are actually making it easier for people to have a handgun with them at certain functions that in the past they were not allowed at. Now when my dad or I have a customer buy a gun they either have to have a Georgia handgun carrying permit or they would have to pass the national FBI background check. This is done by calling the national hotline and giving the FBI all of the information that the person filled out on their Form 4473. The information includes everything printed on your drivers license plus several extras. The only way I can let you walk out with the gun is if the FBI says you are approved. I think that owning a gun is a right that we should not have to give up. Even if they don't ban guns and they want to make it hard for us to have or get one, they will put stiffer regulations on the ammunition so that our guns will be useless. If anyone has any gun issues or questions please feel free to ask me. I will try my best to answer them. My dad and I actually sat in his shop with an ATF agent for more than 5 hours today discussing all the do's and don'ts of buying and selling guns.

I prefer a revolver myself, but currently I have a 22 semi auto handgun. At some point I am going to buy the one I want. I have a 12 gauge over and under shotgun that I can hunt with. Although the last time I went hunting my hubby handed me his 30-06.

I agree with all those that say that guns should not be banned. Like it has been said also, the bad people will have the guns and the good ones will be under their hands because we would not have them to protect ourselves. I just got a permit to have a gun again. Too much goes on that one does need some kind of protection these days. What scares me is the crazy ones getting them! sweatdrop

Guns are just tools, its people who kill and hurt people. As long as you are a responsible person, I see no problem with owning a gun. I don't have or want one, but that is just me.

No. I don't own a gun yet but I plan to own one. I intend to even take firearms classes so I know exactly how to use it in the event I ever need to. I even plan to even get a conceiled weapons permit.
While guns are the cause of a lot of deaths it doesn't mean people will listen if they're banned. People will still keep them in their houses or with them at all times. Kids will still find them even if their parents think the hiding place for them is brillant. Gangs will still find ways to get them. Thus making it pointless to ban them.
