~Storyline~
In the hills of Utah, long ago when the West truly was wild and horses ran free, there was a herd. They lived in a secluded valley, and still do. But as summer nears, dangers approach. Cougars, Outside stallions, weather, floods, and even the U.S. Calvary. Can the herd remain as the Wild West takes it's toll?

~Rules~
The rules for this roleplay are quite simple. If you can't follow them, I pity you.
-Follow all guild rules and the ToS -Follow all of my rules -No God-Modding or Power-Playing. This means no controlling or auto hits. If you kill another character, have them PM me. I don't want to hear you saying it was fine, I want to hear it from them. -Be realistic when creating your horse -These are horses, not anything else, so no super powers. -Stallions are not allowed to breed or talk to any of the Herd mares unless the Lead Stallion says so. I will allow this rule to be broken for an interesting plot. -Be semi-literate. That means a minimum 5 sentences per post of somewhat descripive words (this does not include speech). -Title your sent profile Cedar Valley to let me know you read the rules. -I am allowed to edit and change these rules as I see fit -Have fun
~Herd Information~
Lead Stallion- he controls the herd and all decisions are made by him. No other stallion may join the herd without his permission. He is the leader, and therefore you must listen to him. Lead Mare- she is the second in command, and is only allowed to mate with the lead stallion. She is usually the one to take care of the foals and look after anything the lead stallion tells her to. Herd Stallions- Are few in numbers. They come as outsiders as all colts born to the herd are run out by age 3. They are not allowed to breed with any mare unless the lead stallion allows them to. Herd Mares- These ladies make up the herd. Their job is simply to listen to the lead stallion, like any horse within the herd. Foals- These are the children. Fillies are kept within the herd their whole lives, whereas colts are run out at age 3 to prevent them from getting rid of the lead stallion. Outsiders- This group of horses does not make up the herd. They come to Cedar Valley and are either accepted or run out depending on their gender. Mares and foals will be accepted, though if a mare brings a colt he will be exiled from the herd when he comes of age. Stallions are not allowed to talk to any mare until accepted by the lead stallion. I will let that by to allow for an interesting plot.

Digur stood at the top of the hill quietly watching his mares. Many of them grazed calmly, and he was there solely to make sure everyone stayed calm. Even while watching his herd, he kept an eye on the surronding area. Digur smiled as he spotted his mother. She looked up and nickered softly to him. Digur responded with a snort and a shake of his grey head.
Digur bent his head down and grazed a little. He calmly chewed the long blades of grass in his mouth and looked around. The valley below was green, the river nearby was rushing with the crisp, clean mountain water. Digur knew that even if he left, he would always return.

Drifting Cloud watched as Soaring Raven grazed. Since they were on their own, the mare was the filly's only means of defense. Sure she was tall, but Raven was still young and inexperienced. Lifting her black and white head to the sky, Cloud caught the familiar scent of the native herd on the wind. Today, the herd was closer although they still remained in the same area generally. Flicking her ears, Cloud didn't know what to do. Should she try to approach the lead stallion? Sure they weren't competition mating wise, but what if the herd was already too large? Indecision made the mare released a puff of air, almost like a sigh, through her nostrils.
Soaring Raven had been grazing when she heard Cloud's sigh. Trotting up, the filly nickered softly. Her gentle dark eyes were questioning, but the older mare simply nudged her before grazing. Flicking her tail, Raven bent her head and began chomping on the rich grasses.

Digur lifted his head to the wind that through the small valley. He caught a scent drifting on the breeze. He whinnied in surprise, then turned to look. He glanced back at his herd, and his mother caught his eye. She galloped up the hill and asked him softly, "What's wrong?"
Digur looked at her then nodded in the direction of the scent. "Someone is there." he said in a worried tone. Digur thought about it momentarily, then told his mother, "Watch the herd. I'll be back." as he began forward. His mother grabbed his mane gently and nickered before saying, "No!". Digur smiled and replied. "Yes." he said, galloping away from the herd. Soon, he found the source of the smell, and came to a halt, whinnying.
He eyes the horses. The black seemed to be comforting the paint, which looked somewhat backwards to him. Digur trotted up to them. "Who are you? Why are you here?" he asked, circling the two suspicously. Digur slowed to a stop in front of them, prepared to fight should a stallion show up.

Gin whinnied for Corin to come back when she saw him following Digur up the slope. Her son seemed agitated, and her heart skipped a beat for a moment What if it was Connor? She quickly galloped up the slope to join them.
Corin eyed the black filly. She seemed around his age,but younger somehow. He tossed his mane to get his bangs out of the way.His sparkling black eyes moved on to Digur, in case the filly didn't like to be stared at.He kept his ears up and listened for a stallion or colt that might be traveling with them.If there was, he would fight beside Digur to protect the herd he loved.

Digur heard someone come up behind him. He turned and saw Corin. "Get back to the herd! Now!" he yelled. He didn't need the colt here, for he was only an open, weak target for cougars, whereas Digur could handle one. Digur reared up and pawed the air to prove his point. He landed with a loud thud, his hooves just missing Corin's muzzle. "Go." he commanded sternly.

Raising her great head, Drifting Cloud watched a stallion approach. Shortly after his arrival, a colt around Raven's age followed. She huffed and eyed the two wearily. "Is there a problem?" She dodged his question with her own. Her pale eyes watched the stallion intently, their lightness almost creepy against her black and white head.
Soaring Raven lifted her head quickly, hearing the approaching hooffalls of another horse. Her tail flicked nervously, her dark eyes reserved. She stood by her foster mother, her head lifted and posture proud.

Digur turned back to the mare and filly. "No. I'm sorry if I seemed rude, I don't mean to be. It's just the dangers of the next season are coming. Cougars, floods... it isn't safe to be alone. Are you with a herd?" Digur asked genntly but with a strong voice all the same.

Drifting Cloud nodded in understanding. She knew of the upcoming dangers quite well. She'd nearly died and lost Soaring Raven earlier in the previous year. "We are herdless, roaming together for the time being." She dipped her head in respect to the stallion.

Digur pawed the ground. "Would you like to join my herd? We'd love to have you." he said politely. Though the mare was nice, he was not romantically interested. So far, he'd found no mate, but he was doing better on his own.
