Jeremiah was late getting home. He was going to get an earful from his aunt. He was in New York city to go to school for dance. His parents stayed back home in California while he roosted with an alcoholic aunt that he loathed. He just continued to tell himself it would be worth it when he finished, dancing was an art worth going through this for.

He could barely see his own two feet it had grown so dark, and since this was a busy week day there was no one on the streets and it was eerily quiet. His short dirty blonde hair was tousled all over his head from the fast paced walking and his destroyed jeans were wet at the bottoms where they hung over his shoes from him running through the puddles on the sidewalk. His dufflebag bounced against his hip as he sped up checking his wristwatch. He just had to make it home soon.

There were shouts up ahead-- a loud ruckus further down the street and off in one of the adjacent alleys. Then a good four bodies stumbled out of the mouth of one alley, illuminated briefly by a streetlight flickering above. One second they were cascaded in light, the next pitched in blackness.

A few more cries were carried from the small group as another form followed from them out into the street.

A high pitched cackle went up as the fifth person stopped on the sidewalk beneath the flickering streetlight. It was a male, judging by the height and build. Stocky shoulders, strong legs and arms. A broad grin stretched eerily across his face, and his violet eyes blazed in the darkness. When light would touch his hair, the messy mop was a bright teal color, obviously artificially colored.

His eyes seemed to be focused on the lone dancer making his way up the sidewalk.

Jeremiah froze as soon as he heard the screams, the horrified yelps flooding his ears, then the sight unfolding before him. What was happening? And more importantly why was that other man coming toward him after having done God knows what to four others.

He gulped, stone frozen in fear. His heart was pounding in his chest and every fiber of his being was screaming for him to run, but he couldn't muster up the will to move, or the courage to try to escape. He'd born witness to something, he wasn't sure what, but something that he shouldn't have witnessed, but nothing or no one was there to protect him now.

The man from the alley approached the boy, stopping when he was practically right in front of him. A combination of strange vibes radiated from him. There were mixtures of scents, easily noticeable but not easily distinguished without a heightened sense of smell.
He narrowed his eyes, violet irises flashing with interest briefly.
Then he spoke, his voice deep though tinged by an almost hysterical pitch.
"What's a kid doing out this late, I wonder, hmmm?"

Jeremiah's voice was caught in his throat. His eyes flickered over then man before him, his blue eyes bright with a bit of fear. What was that smell?

He finally managed to squeeze out a small noise, barely audible before he choked out whole words. "I'm not a kid." That's going to keep you safe. In the back of his mind he was sure he'd just sealed his doom if that was the only thing he had to say at a moment like this.

There was a pause as the man's mouth spread into a wide grin. Then he snickered.
"Of course not. Silly me." He tossed his head, teal hair gleaming for a brief moment. There seemed to be a dark stain covering a small chunk of his bangs.
"Some advice. Don't go this way. Find a different route. I can even help you!"
He gestured off elsewhere, the start of a high pitched cackle almost creeping into his laugh.

Jeremiah flinched at the maniacal hint of laughter. He wanted to ask questions, but that might only get him in trouble, especially since this man was trying to guide him somewhere else and it was far too dark to be going off down any other streets. This was the fastest one to his house.

"I need to go this way, I don't think I need any help of yours." The adrenaline pumping through his veins was making him more bold, but he was still very scared and unsettled.

The man's smile never faltered, but his eyes narrowed considerably.
"No. You need to go a different way. Don't worry, I won't let anything hurt you." He continued, reaching a hand out to gesture down another street. "It's not a question anymore. I'm telling you. Pick a different route."
He smiled, tilting his head. That smear of dark color was more noticeable now, and seemed to be..moving down the strands of hair it touched. A soft pat broke the silence of the street as some of it dripped from his hair.

Is that blood? Oh no... Jeremiah's thoughts were racing, he needed to get away from that man if that's what he thought it was in his hair. He backed away slowly his eyes widening a bit as he looked the man up and down. His bottom lip shook softly as he stared the man in the eyes and tried to declare what he was, but his voice was so faint the wind caught it and let it fly through the air. "Murderer..."

Jeremiah bolted down the street, clutching his bag tight, he was sure those other men he'd heard screaming before and seen stumbling were dead. He didn't want to be the next victim, he just wanted to go home.

"A runner! Oh, hohoho. Goodie!"
Jeremiah would be able to hear that strange cackling pierce through the air and footfalls quickly following him.
"You really can't get away from me, kid..." The man was saying as he ran, voice only chopped by giggles. "So running is a really bad idea if you plan to live for much longer~!"
PostPosted: Sat May 22, 2010 8:57 pm

Jeremiah didn't stop, he couldn't. He just kept running and running as fast he could. No matter what happened he at least was trying to get away and if the man did catch him then he would fight, he would fight like nobody's business.

His heart was pounding in his chest, his ears were ringing in his head, and he could feel the fear just coursing through him.

From behind, there was a strange noise, cracking like bones shifting. Then the sound of four padded paws slapping the pavement behind the dancer. There was that cackling sound, more feral than before.
"I would highly suggest that you stop running!"
The voice was the man's, but sounded distorted. It was strange.
PostPosted: Sat May 22, 2010 9:21 pm

Jeremiah stopped and spun on his heals and screamed back at the man. His eyes were screwed shut stinging with the burn of his sweat running into them his body was soaked, and he was trembling but he screamed back.

WHY ARE YOU CHASING ME?! Why can't you just leave me alone and let me go home, I didn't do anything, I'm innocent!

He dropped to his knees, his bag falling from his hands as he blindly crumpled his body into submission.

The four padded feet came to a stop right in front of the terrified boy. There was a quiet growl, the sound of panting. Hot breath hit his face. Then a wet nose.
"Because I find chasing the weak thrilling. You ran, thus I had to follow." There was that strange voice again...

And if Jeremiah would open his eyes, he would see a spotted hyena staring him in the face. Its fur ridge was died teal, splotched with red..probably blood.
